Hi ladies,
Thought things were going fairly smoothly. My period was a week late and I really didn't have much pms as usaul second day today of my period and am slammed with severe dizziness so much so that I need my walking canes from our walks in the woods to manuever through my home.My eyes and ears are haing trouble too. My period was so heavy this morning, I just moved I could feel it. Try to go to the bathroom and I make a mess trying to get my pants down quick enough knowing it just keeps running. Now it is already tapering a bit, but am still dizzy and having palp's which have been mild for the past couple of months, now I have flutters and flops which doesn't help my anxiety oever all this. I am just in tears wanting some normalsy. HUGS Mikki

Mikki-

I'm sorry your struggling and hope you feel better soon. It's a nightmare for a lot of us.

Hey Sunflower!!
Sorry about the nasty period. Have you ever had your Iron and B12 checked out, these are things that can contribute to dizzyness, especially with heavy bleeding...may be worth a try ??
Hope you feel better soon. Ruth

Mikki, I can remember having periods like that-I also had the dizziness. It scared the daylights out of me. It turned out I was very anemic because of the heavy periods. My doctor had me take 2 iron pills daily for a couple weeks. After that, the extreme dizziness went away. Hope this helps, and I hope you feel better soon, DebM.

Hello Sunflower,

Sorry to hear you are suffering so much at the present time. Please take care of yourself and rest up a bit, you deserve it.

Thankyou all for the encouragment.

I did rest yesterday afternoon, but did you ever notice if you deicde to go rest like my husband tells me to the house seems to fall apart and while resting I am thinking of the mess I will deal with when I get up. The kids came home from school and if mom isn't on the ball boy things are just left where they lay.

I started to feel a bit better last night and after the dizziiness supsided some I had a very annoying headache behind my eyes mostly. I wake this morning and feel very out of it again. I had my iron checked several times and I am iron deficiant, my stores are down but the iron in my blood seems fine that was back in Feb. B12 I don't know...boy this is one of my worst symptomatic periods in a while. Thanks again Mikki

Hi Mikki,

Just saw your post and want to add my encouragement as well. I also am in the middle of a quaduple period--and I had not had one for a year and a half!

My GYN told me that i should call her when I have very heavy bleeding because medication may be in order. This time she did, in fact, give me 10 days of Provera to lighten up the bleeding. Have you called your GYN to discuss?

Wishing you a better day than yesterday and all good things,
Marcy smile.gif

I'm sorry you're having such a terrible time. Have you ever had inner ear problems? Or, not to sound completely weird, but...have you just gotten bi-focals? I know that in the adjustment period, I had a bad time with them. I hope that things improve for you quickly...
sunflowermmh
Ann...funny thing is I did get progressive bi-focals a year ago and have had to recently have the lenses removed to put in my reading glasses because they were making me worse. I may try them again later. I also went to an ENT and they said my ears are fine. We Are in the process of putting an air cleaner in our home because my allergies have just went through the roof(dust, cat and dogs)we can't avoid dust. I am plugged up often and my ears itch, mouth itches and nose, and I am sneezing alot, my head hurts more often and my throat is sore often along with poat nasal drip. I think allergies will make you spacey I don't know. We hope that getting an air purifier will help with these things and maybe indirectly help with the dizziness/detached feeling. Thanks Mikki
Ann61
I hope the air purifier works for you. I've been going through some dizzy spells, only when I am reading or working on the computer. I just got my first set of bi-focals a few months ago, so that's why I made the connection. Keep us posted, I'll be curious to see how this pans out for you...

Oh boy, can I ever tell you about DIZZINESS!! YIKES - it started this year in March when I got a dizzy spell that lasted for weeks. I went to the ENT and he did all sorts of test and my ears are "fine" (even though they were very full and would click and pop when I swallowed). I had blood tests galore, and a CT Scan, and all of my many docs gave me the diagnosis' of "Labyrinthitis" or "Migraine Associated Vertigo" (MAV).

I do actually think that my main problem (yes, it is still occurring, along with other horrid symptoms) is PERIMENOPAUSE, which has started giving me menstrual migraines, and the migraines are causing the awful dizziness (migraines can mess with your blood vessels in your brain and vestibular system).

So that is one thing to look into - yes, perimenopause that is causing migraines. I have not started any migraine meds because I am too afraid of side effects. I would LOVE for this to all go away and be corrected by maybe some estrogen gel and progesterone around times of my cycle and ovulation. I have a headache almost daily and at times it gets so bad I have to take Vicodin for the head pain, Ativan for dizziness, and Reglan for nausea. sad.gif

This is the PITS! I can't plan a vacation, or even go out to dinner with my husband because I feel so awful all the time. mad.gif

Hi Mikki
Just to let you know... I had the awful dizziness tooo. A sort of slightly off kilter feeling sometimes... other times the room actually spun round when i was lying in bed or walking (eeek). I can remember once my husband had to guide me along as I felt so dizzy. It came in spells during peri, was worse on and off for about a year as my hormones went totally haywire, then only came back very occasionally and mildly post menopause.I am 2 years
post menopause now and haven't had the dizziness for some time. (other symptoms but not this one lol)
I did not realise what it was at the time and thought I had some dreadful disease....I was so frightened it wasn't going to go away, but now having done some reasearch and looking back I can see that it did link in to my hormone fluctuations. AND IT DID GO AWAY!! Hang on in there!
Love and hugs Lindy xxxx

Hi all,

Missy I don't know if i get migraines...I have noticed a increase in what I would call annoying headaches where as before I really never had any other than an obvious cold. When I think of migraines it think of alot of pain so much that one has a difficult time functioning, interesting though I will look into it.

Lindy it is truly good to know that there is hope when the hormones are done going up and down. I think this is a fear of mine that I will feel this spacey/dizzy from here on out. It came on gradually 2 years ago and got progressivly worse until a year ago it was daily all day it seemed. My periods at the same time went haywire also from being really early to late. I do get small breaks from the dizziness now but it still is almost daily just not all day now...it will come and go. It gets worse with a period and when I posted this I was on a period. I was told I had BPPV (is that right) only because they couldn't find another reason so they took a guess. Thanks Mikki

Exactly what type of dizziness do you suffer from?

As a disorder, dizziness is classified into three categories--vertigo, syncope, and nonsyncope nonvertigo. Each category has a characteristic set of symptoms, all related to the sense of balance.

In general, syncope is defined by a brief loss of consciousness (fainting) or by dimmed vision and feeling uncoordinated, confused, and lightheaded. Many people experience a sensation like syncope when they stand up too fast.

Vertigo is the feeling that either the individual or the surroundings are spinning. This sensation is like being on a spinning amusement park ride.

Individuals with nonsyncope nonvertigo dizziness feel as though they cannot keep their balance. This feeling may become worse with movement.

If you are able to narrow down your symptoms, perhaps this would be helpful to your doctor.

Because medical conditions such as high blood pressure or low blood sugar can affect blood flow, these conditions are frequently accompanied by dizziness. Circulation disorders are the most common causes of dizziness. Other causes are head injury, ear infection, allergies, and nervous system disorders.

How's your blood pressure?

Are you eating often enough to replace the electrolytes lost by heavy blood flow, and to prevent a drop in blood sugar?

Any serious allergies or heart problems?

There can be so many causes besides hormones, especially if you say you feel dizzy all the time, every day.

Take care of yourself, and try to think hard to see if there is a concrete pattern to this.

Best of luck to you.

When this first started I had sensations of really quick vertigo that would last maybe a sec. or 2. I was sent to a neuro who did an mri and office tests all normal so she said it could be BPPV. At some point in here I went to an Er and was told I had labrynthitis( I was bleeding heavily again and they didn't think that had anything to do with it) gave me med's but the dizziness just ran a course and left. From there I had a echo and blood work thyroid, iron ect... from there I saw an eye DR. and then an allergist after that and ENT. All this mostly in the last year. All can't find anyhting. My bllod pressure can be low sometimes like 90/60 which I have heard makes you dizzy if you are sesitive to it. I also am hypoglycemic and have been for years so I eat often and eat well.

The feeling is more of a drunk feeling and sometimes detached like I took too much cold med. or someone has put a bunch of cotton in my head, sometimes I feel like I am walking on a water bed through out the day. The days before a period it can be very uncomfortable with buzzing feelings in my head along wiht the spaciness. When I get a period ,like this mo., I was extremely tired, and fainty feeling, and spacy, but they are so heavy I am just flooding I can't even get to the bathroom fast enough before it goes through everything I have on, I can't stand from sitting, cough, sneeze any pressure causing me to flood for about 2 days. I get breaks now where as a year ago it was all day. It can be cotton headed or spacy or just dizzy like my eyes can't focus. I don't know I have tried to just deal with it the best I can, but it scares me at times when it really gets bad. Thanks mIkki

just a quick note my sister who is 33 now is getting the quick vertigo as I have and feels spacy she says almost daily
missy7777
Your explanation of the dizziness sounds exactly like mine! The way I explain it to people is that it feels like I am seasick or hungover. And when it's super bad I have to hold on to the wall to walk straight. It isn't necessarily room spinning vertigo, but rather an imbalance or swaying that is very nauseating. I am really suseptible to motion sickness, so when I am in a "spell", it is just terrible. I totally feel for you, Mikki - I am going through the same thing. For a while, starting in March, the spells would last days and days nonstop, 24/7. Then I would get a little break for a week or so and think "it" was gone. But it would return. I finally went to a specialist at UCLA medical center who is a world renowned neurologist and he is the one who told me it is probably migraine associated dizziness. You don't have to have a headache for a migraine to occur. A lot of people are misinformed about migraine and think it is a horrid headache with vomitting, but it can actually come in many different disguises. Migraine is basically a constricting of you blood vessels in your brain and head areas, which can cause a whole gammit of problems.

I'm not saying your problem is migraine though. Sometimes I think that hormone imbalance can cause the same symptoms. Maybe our estrogen is extremely low or something? I am 40 and still having periods, but something is defintely haywire.

A few months ago I started following a very strict migraine diet that I found in a book called, "Heal Your Headache" and believe it or not, the 24/7 dizziness went away. I still have shorter spells, and sometimes I feel like I am walking on pillows (foot seems to keep going - very bizarre and yucky feeling), but it isn't AS bad as it was when it first started in March.

Have you spoken to your GYN doctor about these extremely heavy periods? If your periods are "flooding" it could be a sign of endometriosis.

If you are truly losing this much blood, then there's definitely something wrong. No wonder you're weak and foggy headed, poor thing!

Flooding is not normal. If there is no sign of endometriosis or fibroid tumors, then your doctor will give you a hormonal remedy to stop the flooding.

I would seek help immediately.

There is NO REASON to feel like you do, or suffer such blood loss, especially if your BP is already low!!
sunflowermmh
I looked up endometriosis because I became a little concerned. I would assume an ultrasound would have picked this up? I had one or 2 and also a biopsy of the lining. The only thing they said was my lining was a little thick. One good thing I guess is with all this bleeding I have no pain or cramping with it.

I guess I have dealt with the bleeding because my mom said it was the same for her when she was coming near the end of her periods and my aunt is now going through the same ..I assumed it was normal for peri. I have had blood work done showing I am in peri and menopause runs young in my family my mother being 43...I am almost 41. I will mention it again on my next annual coming up. Thanks again Mikki
