Has anyone had their periods become irregular over the course of a year? Or should it be more gradual than that. They started to become a little late, then get two in a month then over a week late... all over the course of this past year and 1/2 or so... Anyone???? I do have many other peri symptoms... they have started the last year 1/2 also. I will be 42 in Dec.

Hello there ikmlee,
My period has become irregular over the last two years (I'm 54) have always been a regular as clock work. Back in 2006 I had sweats/fashed for two months then no period for two months I actually thought I was through meno - I cheered as I assumed I had gotten off very easy. But alas my period came back to its regular pattern every month for the next nine months and then disappeared again for four months then back again. It's like a stutter start action. I now have HUGH sweats and flashes. WIll be interesting to see if my period turns up this month!

For me it was quite sudden. I had always had regular periods then, on day 8 of the cycle after what I now recognise was my last regular period, I started bleeding again. I had no idea it was connected with peri or menopause (doh!) as my mother didn't have menopause until her late fifties and I was 49 at the time. Nor did I know it was possible to have two bleeds so close together. After that occurrence, I didn't have another period for four months! I went on cyclical HRT after that and my periods became regular again for a year or so until they became lighter and more sporadic and then I stopped having them altogether - or so I thought. I came off HRT and after ten months with no periods I suddenly had two, eleven weeks apart! I still don't know if I'm finished now!
Had I not gone on HRT I suspect my periods would have continued to be irregular once they'd started being erratic. One minute I was having regular periods and the next, they seemed to have gone all over the shop and I was starting to have hot flushes, problems sleeping and anxiety like I'd never had before. So for me peri had an abrupt onset. And I think I was fairly lucky to escape having symptoms until the age of 49 judging by what I've read on this forum.

I am 46 and over the past couple months my cycles have been - 26 days, 12 days (ugh), 28 days, 51 days. Prior to that, last year I missed a month and had cycles ranging from 19 days to 41 days. Just within the last 6 mo. I am seeing much more irregularity.
Hang in there!

I just turned 47 last mo. Exactly a year ago, I had 2 periods in one month. Than everything was regular again 25-30 day cycles. My last period was in Aug. it was 3 weeks late. Now Im still waiting for my next period. Its oct. now, I think i ovulated 3 wks. ago, so i hope i will have a period by the 8th or 9th. This whole thing is making me a nervous wreck. I started takeing soy supplements and evening primrose oil, and adding ground flax seed to my diet and taking extra vitamin B6. After that is when I think i ovulated, (im pretty sure it was ovulation) so now i have to wait and see. Im sure this is all part of this peri. I have not been dealing with this well, please dont worry about ur cycles, this seems to be common in peri from what i have been reading.

Mine started to get irregular almost 2 years ago. I'd skip a month, have one or two, skip two months, etc. And when I would have one, they were getting lighter and lighter. Now I haven't had one in 6 months. So it was pretty gradual for me. Yet doctor says I'm not menopausal because my hormone tests were "normal". GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

hi,
last Dec. is when my periods went haywire as far as when they come. before that they were every 28 or 27 days every month. Once they started then they wuold be funny as far as bleeding for 3 days none for 2 days and bleeding again for a day and then not, but always came on time. Last Dec is when i got my first double period month they were about a week apart then they came late and i have been back and forth since. Last month I had 2 again a week apart only the second one was very light, now I was a week late. I said to my mom earlier it is agood thing my sex drive is down because with periods coming late I would be a basket case every month. I guess it hasn't been even a year for me. I don't know how long this early late thing goes on until we finally start to miss them. I am 40. HUGS Mikki

Hi everyone:
My periods started getting unpredictable when I was 45 (I am now 47) I was pretty regular then but I skipped a couple months. Then when I was 46, I would get a period every 17-20 days and then the next time it would come after 28 days. Now my period is getting even more strange. The last few times, I got one 43 days or 60 and now I am still waiting for my next period (my last one was in August) My OB said it is just a normal thing that happens as I asked her in April when I went for my phsyical. I wouldn't worry as it sounds like peri to me.
