Hello Ladies , I'm new to this board, but have read some very interesting stories. I'm 32 with no children. I just had a partial hysterectomy on September 5th ,2007. I'm now 2 weeks post. I had my uterus and my fibroids removed. I still have my cervix and both ovaries. So I was wondering if any of you ladies could tell me what to exspect now. I still new to it all. Any advice would be helpful. I do have the night sweats , but I had those even before I had a hysterectomy. But I would just like some information as to what to look forward to far as body changes and health changes... Thanks in advance!

I had a partial a year ago. Think it's different for everyone. Initially symptoms were severe - major palps, sweats, anxiety, and mood swings. That evened out at about 8 weeks post surgery. Many months later, the mood swings came back and lately, lots of hot flashes/night sweats. I'm in my early 50's so it's very possible that only the initial symptoms were related to surgery. Hang in there and give yourself the best recovery you can - that's most important.

Hi Girlies,

I'm bumping this topic up because I'm to have the laparoscopic hyst in Jan and would like to know how others are responding post op.

Map, how're you doing now?

OnTheBrink-

I had a pretty invasive abdominal myomectomy to remove fibroids, with work on 1tube, ovaries, and to top it off cauterization of beginning endo. Well let me tell ya', had my Doc shared with me the worst of what could happen afterwards I think I probably wouldn't have showed ohmy.gif Anyway, everyone's experience is so different...I've seen people bouncing back after 6 weeks, and I commend them. I had major anxiety, erratic BP, palps, few night sweats etc. My prayers for you will be that you don't experience any of these things. I'm still recovering after 6 months. I healed beautifully on the outside, and according to my well woman's exam I look great on the inside. My chief complaint is the HORRIBLE HORMONES......yuck yuck! -Andrea

Man, Mamma, that stinks! Did they tell you why your hormones would go nutso like that??? Were they that crazy before? I hope you are feeling better soon and will keep us abreast of how you're doing.

What made you and your doc choose myomectomy over a hyst? My doc thinks the fibroids are just too large for the myomectomy to be effective, and that, like you, the surgery would become very extensive.

Thank you for sharing. I'm going to try and keep this topic alive to see if anyone else has some thoughts.

Peace and Love,

I was very healthy prior to this worked out 5 days a week and ate a very healthy diet. Anywho, Docs went in through bikini cut. Surgery lasted about 2 hours. My fibroids were mainly on the outside of the uterus for the most part. Doc simply told me about the physical aspects of the surgery, but not mental (hormone imbalance). I would've bailed had I known about it rolleyes.gif I elected a myomectomy because I did not want to be thrusted into early menopause as Hysto's did my mom and both of her sisters.....Not only that I wanted to maintain my fertility for a while. This has indeed been a journey.....out of this world! But everyone responds differently. Indeed I'll keep you posted.

I had a hysterectomy in January (kept my ovaries.) I was post-menopausal at the time, and seemed to be winding down from a lot of the hormonal stuff (hot flashes, sweats, etc.)...but it seemed like the hysterectomy "stirred" things up. I now get pretty regular hot flashes, and night sweats, and more PMS type feelings than before the hysterectomy...weird, but since I have my ovaries, I imagine I'm still prone to all the hormonal fluxes.

Hi Dawn,

Which procedure did you have abd, vag, or lap?

What brought you to the table in the first place? Severe bleeding? Has the problem resolved since the surgery?

Thanks for the info!

I had a VH due to prolapse issues. My urogynecologist says I got the "deluxe"...three repairs for the price of one, LOL. My recovery was pretty uncomplicated except I came down with post op pneumonia and had to be readmitted for IV antibiotics about a week after the surgery. Other than that, no problems, and I feel the surgery was a success.
