O.k. I was put on the pill to stop a 21 day bleed. After a year of taking them I decide to let mother natures take it course, I weaned myself slowly off the birth control pills, I'm using a natural progestrone creme now. Well my period started on August 29th bled for 13 days the last 3 days was brown junk.
O.K. so 5 or 6 days after that my and hubby were intimate and all was fine, well last night we were intimate again, after we finished I started bleeding not heavy but bleeding.
I'm scared to death here!!! I'm 40 years old by the way, Doctor would not tell me at 39 after doing a full vaginal ultrasound if I was premenap. or not.
Said I could or could not be. I just know right now I'm panicing over what just happened please tell me have any of you all experienced this after stopping the pill.

P.S. This happened last night no more signs of blood except late this evening I went to pee and wiped what look to be a light dingy discharge.

I need your in-put here has anyone else experienced this. I swear I feel like I can't take much more worrying.

Hi Blue...

One thing you said caused me to think that you are having an hormonal imbalance of some sort...that you "weaned yourself slowly off the BCP's"?? The normal way of stopping the pill is to just take the last one of the pack and then cycle on your own. Sometimes, you won't have a cycle for a couple of months following being on the pill, but most do. If you were spacing them out, or whatever, then it wouldn't be at all uncommon for you to be bleeding off and on. Your hormones aren't high enough of their own to hold the endometruim in place until you cycle again. Having some spotting after intercourse isn't all that uncommon if this is the case.

Assuming you are going in for your yearly check and Pap's, then as long as you aren't bleeding more than a pad an hour of bright red blood, you most likely aren't going to be anemic. I think you answered that question on your post though. I would probably wait out another cycle and see if you can get regular again after being on the pill for a year. If you have any other problems, I wouldn't hesitate going in and getting checked out though.

Also, the progesterone cream can acutally cause you to have a spotting or bleed if you discontinue it's use or skip a few days. It's the sudden withdrawl of progesterone, either naturally or synthentic that causes the endometrium to slough off.

Hope this helps.

I use my cream every day except the days I'm not suppose to. The cream I started on came with a pamplet gave directions on what to do while using this cream if you were on any kind of synthetic hormones. So, thats what I done. I really think that my lining of my uterus is thinning out and they may have been the problem, at least thats what another lady told me, and we tend to get dryer during hormonal changes.
I'm afraid to be intimate anymore isn't that absurd. Plus my sister said that when she went off the pill 3 different times and had intercourse this happened with her, she called her gyn. and he told her this was normal to happen when going off the pills and having intercourse. But tell me how would the two have anything to do with each other. I don't understand that, but thankyou for you in-put.

Hmmm...think of it this way. The BCP's have been at a constant level for a year. Now, you have gone off the pill and your body is re-learning "if you will" to produce it's own hormones. Sometimes it takes a few months before they are back up to the "normal" level. During which time, any significant "shaking" can cause the uterus to slough off stored up blood, no matter if the lining is thick or thin. Nothing serious...give it a few cycles and it should become regular again. If not, at that time I would go see my GYN.

Thankyou "Joyful Heart" You have been such a great help to me, You said something I didn't realize "shaking" can cause the uterus to slough off store up blood" I didn't realize the uterus could do this, I guess I'm still learning new things all the time during this phase of my life. You have made me feel much better.

Thank You and God Bless You

Hi SD, I know the above post is not to me, but I thought I might add something that I have had happen. I have only taken BCP's for a few weeks in my entire life as they just don't agree with me, but now and then, throughout my sexual history with my hubby, I have had minor bleeding after intercourse. I spoke with a GYN about this, and he told me that sometimes the actual event of intercourse, and sexual excitement causes the uterus to contract, much like in labor, and if there is anything to come out, it will do after the event, and this can also be at ovulation times too. I hope that also helps ease your mind as this bleeding scared me too.

Hugs,
Viktoria

Thankyou and Hugs to you and big hugs at that. I swear It seems like since the age of 39, now 40 I worry and panic over any quirk or anything different about my body. Can I be up-front about something, I'm now scared to have sex, Is that not Absurd. I don't want this to become a problem between me and my spouse.
But, I will try to just put the fear out of my head, easier said than done. But you all have been a great help to me.

Gop Bless You All

SDBlue,

Your phobia about having intercourse sounds like peri/meno anxiety to me. You mentioned yourself that things bother you more these days. Welcome to our wonderful wacky world of meno-worry.

I have a few phobias myself--much as I know it is meno anxiety--haven't been able to overcome them yet. But I still have hope even though I still can't mention them here.

Wanted to mention that you may have some dryness that could be helped with lubricants.

Also wanted to re-iterate to you that when progesterone levels drop--the uterine lining sloughs off--causing bleeding, spotting, brown discharge of old material, etc. Your hormones have been interfered with by the bc pills and cream and natural hormone fluctuations might be occurring too. Yeah--this is a scary time. Come here and post for information and reassurance--bug your doctor if you have to--in order to get peace of mind. It seems to take more to reassure us when our hormones are going woofy.

Take it easy. Give it time. You're under a doctor's care. If there was anything wrong, he would know. That's why he's done the tests.
