This is really new...I remeber an old boyfriend that had to take niacin and his ears would burn and itch...well, I don't take niacin but feel the same. I can live with it, it is nothing terrible but was just wondering if anyone else has had ths. I am about a week away from my period if that means anything!

I had a friend a few years back who every time I would be with her had burning ears, literally her earlobes would be red and on fire. It was a menopausal thing. I know it's aggravating but don't be too concerned. You WILL get through this! Love, Lilyfields

I have asked so many people about my burning ears, even the doc, but they just look at me like I'm mad. But I can tell you that I fully believe burning ears are hormonal. It comes on just before hot flushes begin or panic, and around period time.
I also had burning ears during and after my pregnancy, so I am sure that it is most definintely hormonal no matter what anyone says.

I have the burning ear problem too. I've been to an orthopedic who did a cervical xray and a cervical mri and sent me to therapy for neck muscles. It got better but then the burning sensation on the mastoid bone and behind the ear and actually on the ear lobe came back. I try and relate it to my cycle because I keep a chart. Since the first of the year my cycles have progressed from 21 to 29 days. A few days ago the burning was so bad I went to my GP who is a friend of mine to tell him about the burning ear. I knew he would take me serious because he knows I just don't make things up. Had a CT scan done of my sinuses to rule out mastoiditis. It was negative so he put me on medrol dosepak thinking I have some type of neuritis. It is SO FRUSTRATING because everyone I tell that my ear burns-they think I'm crazy. It's also very depressing-sometimes I just go to bed early and cry about it. I also had the FSH test done in June because I called my OB to tell him about my weird symptoms-feeling hot all over ( no sweating really)-just hot and my lengthening periods. He said he wanted to do the test. It was a 22. So the nurse calls me and tells me that I'm in menopause. I didn't belieive her from what I know about the FSH test and them doing it just one time. I went back and counted and they drew the blood on the 12th day of my cycle. Anyway, I have the burning left ear and sometimes just a really hot face-feels dry and drawn after it gets hot. Any advice or encouragement?
Thanks

I used to get this same thing all the time....it would come and go, and seemed unconnected to anything. I do have rosacea, and i know it can affect the ears as well as the face and neck. This went on for a couple years and then went away, i never discussed with anybody till today when i saw your post...hhmm, i basically chalked it up to my rosacea. Maybe a dermatologist could help you..can't hurt! And mine was also my left ear. Sorry this is not that helpful, but at least you know it does happen to others. Ruth

I had seen a post here some time ago about burning ears, but I did not read the post. Well, it wasn't until, I think this week, that my right eat began to burn. It was like it was having it's own personal hotflash, lol

. The sensation lasted less than an hour. My sister who is younger and also going through perimenopause has to deal with that burning tongue sensation, which her medical professional recently told her was related to low estrogen. I just figure that the burning ear also had to deal with my declining hormone levels.

I understand the burning, but the itchy ear lobes are new to me. I put hydrocortisone cream on it to "put the fire out." It is cool and soothing!

"it's own personal hotflash" ... That cracked me up cause I can totally relate .. that happens to my ears, but ESPECIALLY to my left ear ..
Thanks for the giggle
