I seem to be getting 2 different sort of hot flash things. The first sort makes me feel dizzy, clammy & sweaty and sort of hot/cold, like you feel before you are going to throw up. The second sort I just feel like me face is sunburnt, this one lasts for hours.
I am also cold/hot/cold/hot!
I can't believe that woman haven't said how frigging horrible these flashes are! I thought oh yer hot flushes that will be nice, as I have always been a cold sort! No one says anything about feeling sick and dizzy and sweaty!
Do other people get more than one sort of flash??

I get both also. I have the wave of heat rush through my whole body and most times I break out into a mild sweat.
I also get the sunburned face feeling. I am in the middle of one of those episodes right now. I have had
it on and off for a couple of days. You don't know how relieved I am that I found your post. I haven't heard of the sunburnt
face symptom before now

I was in Florida in January and it wasn't cold at night but I'd usually wear a sweater. But the cold/hot/cold/hot thing kept me putting the sweater on, taking it off, putting in on.... you get the gist. Anyway, my friends thought it was hilarious. I however did not!

I had a similiar hot/cold thing happen to me last night. I had just finished dinner and I felt a very strong hot flash come on. I always feel it on my upper chest that gets bright red! I walked into the kitchen and felt really weird-off balance like I could faint for about 30 secs. It felt like forever. I think my body went into panic mode as I immed. had to go to the bathroom and then had chills off and on. I took my bp. and it was a bit high, but it was my heart that was racing. It took a good 20-30 min. before felt better. By that time I thinking it's my heart and going to all those bad thoughts. I'm sure my body reacted to this and put me in an anxiety mode. I have never felt that after a hot flash before. I'm 56 and have been getting hot flashes on and off since I was 51. I don't know if I should run to the Dr. or not.
It's always comforting to read the message from everyone and know I am not alone nor crazy! Has anyone had these symptoms?

I get very dizzy before a hot flash - I used to just get hot but now most of my flashes have the dizziness too. I have to lie down before I fall down. Then I get really hot, then really cold, like my guts are ice. I have had a couple of the "sunburn" flashes, too.
I have stopped using caffeine and dramatically reduced sugar intake and consume soy as well as have been taking maca root for about 3 weeks. I had a hot flash right after having a Pepsi one day so decided to cool my jets on that sort of thing. The maca seems to be helping, as although I have still been flashing they have been shorter and less intense. I used to have to lie down for a while and just felt queasy and awful, now I can get back to things much faster. I know it can take a month or two for the maca to kick in fully. I am also determined to start getting more exercise, as that is supposed to help flashing too.
Every time I have my period I hope and pray it is the last one....

Wow! Me too! The sunburned face feeling fits me to a tee. It will be 30 degrees outside and the wind is blowing and my face just feels hot! I refer to it now as The Flush. You know, I used to always have a Pepsi with my lunch, and within the hour -- dizzy; hot; cold; flash & flush! Blick! On jacket, off jacket-no, wait, on jacket-no Hot!! It's so hard to know how to dress these days. Needless to say, caffine is no longer my friend. When it first started happening -- I thought, geez there must be something TERRIBLY wrong with me. Then the pieces started coming together -- It's Peri! It Begins! This forum (and girlfriends at work) have kept me sane. Thanks for posting everybody!!

The sunburnt face kind is the only kind that I have experienced. Now that I am post meno they are now in a sharp decline. They are now brought on by pop and cold weather.

Oh....great.....something ELSE we have to give up!!
So...whats on the list now? Let me think?
No to:
Sugar
Salt
white bread
white flour
cream for coffee
and COFFEE
fat
red meat
margarine
ice cream
and now POP or SODA
so really, whats left? This is seriously getting depressing.
Drink water or herbal tea....easy on juice, not good for you.
eat whole grains
veggies (but no cheese sauce, gravy, butter, salad dressing, etc)
fruit (easy on that to....lots of natural sugars, bad for you)
lean meat (but only a deck of card size piece)
Could it be any more boring?? Besides can anyone really pull it off? I mean REALLY?? Cuz I just don't know how I could....so I get to suffer exta because of it....great.
Feeling a little defeated at the moment. I think even though I haven't had a period for 9 months there are still fluctuating hormones and I am on a low. I am having symptoms again after a month without them....

Well, Kathie, I am totally with you on that one, hon!!
After ALL these years of living on a way too strict diet, giving up SO many foods that any person in their right mind would enjoy..............only to find myself totally burnt out on diet and exercise, not giving a flip about anything anymore............I say eat and drink whatever you wish..............of course, everything in moderation, and you will be fine.
I mean what good is this life if we can't enjoy ourselves!!!
You go girl!!!

I get both kinds of hot flashes. My usual though are like the sun burned feeling. My chest gets red, then usually only one ear gets bright red. I have 10 piercings in each ear. People will look at me and ask if I have an ear infection. I just laugh and say "no, I'm having a hot flash. I like to broadcast it!" Wine and caffeine are major triggers for me. The kind that come with dizziness are often the start of a Migraine. Bummer.

Yes, yes! I've been getting the windburn/sunburn feeling since December. It lasted a couple of weeks then went away until last week. They come and go all day long and last for hours at a time. It seems to get worse when I'm in a room with lots of people. Christmas was bad. I don't get the other kind of flashes. I thought maybe something was wrong with my thyroid, but it's been checked every year when I go for my annual checkup. Now that I've read others have the same feeling, I'll just assume it's another peri symptom.
My face feels dry and prickly like it does when I've been out in the wind and/or sun. It looks red, feels hot...then just as suddenly it goes back to normal. I'm going to try and figure out if there's pattern...which isn't easy when your periods lose their pattern...LOL.

Gracie! You crack me up! I am laughing aout you broadcasting your hotflash! I started laughing and my 8 yr old little boy asked me what was so funny. I told him that he wouldnt understand!!!
Floater-I agree. Just enjoy life and eat in moderation. if it makes you feel better, I just ate a brownie w/ice cream and chocolate sauce. I am dizzy or buzzy, or whatever it is and will start in a ouple of days so I treated myself to some sugar.
Hi-jack! Some of you posters are saying Pop. We dont call it pop in Texas. Everything is a soda or a coke. You could say I have given up coke and it might really mean a Pepsi, or Dr Pepper, etc. That, I found funny also!
Thanks for giving me a laugh a few days before my period and I am feeling so off.
i will not give up my coffee in the morning! i hate the flashes, i hate the sweats, but i'd hate a morning without coffee even more!
in australia, we don't use soda, or pop, and if we say coke, we mean coca cola.. it's all soft drink, or we call it by it's name, ie coke, pepsi, ginger beer etc..

Hi all,
Regarding the sunburnt feeling in the face. Since I've gone into peri (about 12 months ago) I noticed I couldn't drink red wine any more. The slightest sip of red and my face would go very warm and red, but the strangest symptom of all was a pain that felt like sunburn but only on the left side of my face! To date, no doctor can explain it.
I can drink coffee, soft drinks, whatever, but wine seems to be the only thing that brings on the facial pain on the left side and that sunburnt feeling. I wonder why only one side of my face though.
As for the other flashes. I was getting hot flashes last year until I tried natural progesterone cream, which made them go away. But now the flashes are back, and even the cream doesn't seem to help anymore. I am getting the flashes mainly in the early evening and during the night. I don't seem to get them during the day, thank God!
I don't have any dizzy spells with my flashes, however, I have been getting awful heart palps for 4 years now, although these don't seem to be related to the flashes, but more to my fluctuating hormones.

I am having some time with all of this. I have just gone through two months of burning hot flashes followed by icy cold ones. I started taking Remifemin, but only three weeks ago. It is supposed to take 6 weeks to begin working. My symptoms have completely changed since. I have stopped flashing. I was up to about 10 times per day or more, it has completely stopped! Presently,I am weeping all the time, have enormous and
very sore breasts

and am very bloated. I can't gauge periods as I had a hysterectomy three years ago, but it feels like pre-menstrual symptoms X50. Very strange. Do symptoms change so quickly and so radically?
