I have a hysterectomy scheduled for Sept. 19th. After much research, discussion and considering family medical history, I am having a total hysterectomy (uterus and ovaries removed).

I am so confused about what type of HRT or BHRT to start with. I have read this site for hours on end and days on end and I still cannot figure out what to request for HRT or BHRT. I have finally decided to ask these questions and so I can try to make an informed decision from your responses.

What HRT or BHRT did you start with?
How well did it work for you?
How long did it work before you had to switch to something else?

I want to thank you in advance for your responses.
Juliann
Hi Ledge,

I have not had a hystrectomy, but I did have an ovary removed. Your ovaries are what produce most of your female hormones, so to loose the ovaries means that you WILL go straight into full blown menopause quickly.

Just losing my "one" ovary made a huge difference and I have NEVER been the same. It's like peri x 10 (in my case).

My own personal protocol, is nothing BUT bioidentical forms of Estrodiol (beta 17). I use estrodiol and a low dosage of Testostorone cream. This helps EVERYTHING for me. Many doc's will put you on a patch, Vivelle Dot is one to consider. I would stay away from synthetic products, just my opinion. If you have problems with libido, you may add T cream down the road.

Estrodiol comes in Pill form (Estrace) and patches and gels. All are good, you may have to find which works best for you. I hope that all goes well. It really is tough to lose your ovaries.

Hi Juliann - I started on Vivelle Dot a month ago with .0375 and doubled it today. I talked to my doc about adding a low dose compounded Testosterone cream. We decided to get my E2 levels back up first and add the T cream in about a month. He's not real familar with it, but is wonderful about trying new things. I'm thinking about a .1% cream. Just curious about the type and dosage you use. I'm 55, no uterus, and one ovary that doesn't function.
Thanks,
Sierra
