I am 46 yrs. old and have been told i have osteopenia. I take calcium/magnesium, vit d religiously but cannot tolerate those large pills ! I was wondering if anyone has ever taken the liquid form of calcium/magnesium and if so what is a good reliable brand.

I was taking powdered calcium and magnesium from the Vitamin Shoppe. I don't want to violate any site rules so I'll PM the brand name. smile.gif

Over the past years, I have tried MANY liquid brands of calcium and ALL of them tasted pretty bad. So much so, that I didn't take them. I found many of the "chewable" kinds (some are like a lozenge) much better. In fact, they were almost a little "sweet treat" after a meal. However, I do NOT mean the ones that are calcium CARBONATE. In my opinion it does not absorb as well (there is great debate here however) and can cause consitpation. I read somewhere that calcium citrate actually has 2 pathways to get into your bones but I am not sure if that is true or not.

I don't like those "large pills" either. So I found a brand at a local low cost retailer that dissolves in water in less than 5 minutes! This is a calcium citrate pill with vitamin D. I just drink it. It doesn't taste bad. So in that way...I am making my own liquid calcium. Of course you could always mix it with juice or something else. There are a number of calcium pills that will not dissolve in water after half an hour! I certainly don't want to take those. I take my calcium several times a day to help with absorption.

You might want to consider taking D3 in a capsule in addition to the vitamin D. I found the D3 very effective in raising the vitamin D levels on my blood test. Hopefully this will help with better absorption of the calcium.
