Yesterday and today I ate a stick of mild cheddar cheese and within a half hour I started getting hot flashes, heart palps and feeling nervous. Is it because of the high fat in the cheese or what? I hate this feeling.

I've never heard of that, but I can sure put away the Applewood Cheddar at my house! Some crave chocolate, I crave CHEESE and Trader Joes, Mulit-grain crackers! Can't do that for long, I'm starting back on weight watchers Tuesday AM! I had lost 38 lbs., then got lazy and gained back 20, now tackling the last 40!

With peri, i notice I have bloating like crazy at times....and after cheese and crackers is one of them. Gotta change!

I did some research and dairy products can cause hot flashes.

Yes, I get this. Cheeses have what is called "tyramine" [ not sure of spelling]. and that can cause plaps. I love my cheese, but the palps I get from it are awful. If I eat it late at night, I cannot sleep. The time I can eat it, is when my body is on one of it's "super" relaxation times it grants me on rare times.....then I eat cheese with NO bad effects. Just check your cheese does not have any MSG etc in it........but you are not alone... ! I would bet red wine may do the same to you.

Also I was told by my witch doctor (naturopathic healer) never to eat orange cheese. Apparently the orange dye is very toxic and bad for us. If you must eat cheese (and I MUST) eat white cheese. You can find all your cheddars in white versions, as well as the expected whites like mozzarella, swiss, havarti, etc. I have never made a corrolation between cheese and hot flashes myself, but will start paying more attention now!
