The itching is driving me crazy It is mainly on my face, eyelids, and scalp. I go to scratch it but then I discover that my skin is numb. Is this something to be concerned about other than I AM LOSING MY MIND?

Then ever so many itches - I feel like a spider is crawling on my leg. I HATE spiders so I am jumping and yelling while I am scratching like crazy. I was supposed to be having this reuion with my ex real soon. I feel like a zoo animal.

PLEASE HELP! I am VERY new to this - if this is what this is.

Welcome to PS!!!!!!!!! smile.gif. I've also dealt with the itching and the sensation that something is crawling on my skin. Do a search for formication (make sure there is an "m" in the spelling smile.gif) and perimenopause and you'll get some answers. Also previous posts here have dealt with this same subject. Keep posting, you are at a great site smile.gif.

This is a topic that I can surely relate to!! I itch all over the place and and no definte time of the month; it can be anytime. It is not like something crawling for me; it is more like something is biting me. I either scratch it and it becomes a welt (hive) or I look at where the itch is coming from===under my skin but there is a red flat place where it itches. Does anyone have the "biting" kind of itch?

Sherri, this is a very common symptom in perimenopause. I had it, too. Do a search on here for formication (with an "m") and you'll come up with lots of posts.

Hi Mary

Thanks for the reply. How long did it last for you? I have had this problem since January 2001 which means I would have been around 36 at the time. I have found the only thing that really works is hydroxyzine (Atarax, an antihistamine). HOpe to "grow" out of it someday....sigh I am just glad it is not everyday!!!
