hi ladies...i posted this on the aches/pains forum as well, but i wanted to get as many opinions as possible, so I'm posting it here too......thanks guys!!!!

hi guys.....

OH BOY ....ok, I started a new thread on back pain, only because i noticed that the others were about mid-back, back pain.
They sound absolutley awful!!! Well, the problem is that I started my period yesterday, and my back was fine, no problem....UNTIL, last night, in bed, i was laying on my back, i was fine .... then, i turned to my left (like i always do) and sort of propped myself up on my elbow, to talk to my son, who had come into the bedroom to ask me something. A few minutes into the conversation with him, the LOWER LEFT SIDE of my back, BELOW THE WAIST, began to ACHE, DEEPLY, and it made me feel nauseas! OH MAN, THIS WAS WEIRD AND SICK! OK, so I told myself to relax and it'll go away..lol...right! NO SUCH LUCK!
I laid there for a while, and waited for it to stop, but it didn't. So now, I had to take a xanax, because i got into some kind of panic, thinking it was my kidney! GEEZ! (however, the kidneys are slightly ABOVE the waistline and this was about an inch lower)....my husband reassured me it was just muscular, or peri, and NOT my kidney! He reminded me of May of '06 when I had something VERY SIMILAR following a minor UTI infection i had gotten, and it was the same thing.....the deep ache, the sick feeling, the "chills", and yet feeling VERY hot! (you know, if I look back at that now, that was obviously another peri symptom, but I didn't connect the dots back then yet) ... yes, he was right, but of course, each time you get something, you're SURE that THIS time is the biggie!

well, I finally fell asleep hours later, in a fetal position, because by now, the cramps from my period were BAD, and so was this bad back ache! Ok, so today, it's SLIGHTLY better, but still there. I don't usuallly get this with my period. I usually get the cramps in the ovary area, and that HEAVY feeling in the uterus and vagina .... but not the back thing.

Does anyone else get this? Now, rememeber, it's the LOWER left side, of my back, RIGHT NEXT TO THE SPINE! When i had this last time in May of '06, i freaked then too, because since i had just gotten over a UTI, i thought it had gone up to the kidney...and yet, it turned out to be MUSCULAR!!!!!! So, I'm hoping that's it now too! When I had my kids, I always had back labor, and this reminds me of that.....it reminds me of the early stages of labor, when it would start contracting down in the EXACT same place, about an inch below the waistline, right next to the spine .... THERE MUST BE SOME MUSCLES THERE or whatever.......

thank you ladies......I just wish I didn't get so darn panicky about everything! MyDarling

Sounds muscular to me. Or a slight pinched nerve in your spine. Try using a hot pad on it to see if that will help. Take some Aleve or Tylenol and above all just do not panic. The fact it came on so quickly makes me believe you twisted around kind funny when you turned over and it strained something. Should feel better in a couple of days. Don't press on it!!!

Well it could also be the sacroiliac joint. Or even one of the gluteal muscles.

I took a quick look in my trigger point workbook to see what muscles are down ther. The deep spinal muscles extend to below the waistline close to the spine. Accroding to the book, "maintaining twisted or unbalanced positions" can give rise to problems in the muscles.

the sudden onset really does suggest something muscular and ultimately harmless. Will probably go away on its own but one not have your husband massage a bit right next to the spine in the vicinity of the ache.

Sorry for all the typos. Hope you get the message. I need to do some typing practice. And darn, I just got my fifth hot flash of the day. I ahve been counting today. Why do I always reverse letters. This must be a form of dylexia expressed in typing or something.
