Hi -

My period was due yesterday but I know its going to arrive anytime soon - I've noticed the last few months that a couple of days before my period arrives, my vagina feels really sore inside - its difficult to explain but the whole of my pelivic area feels painful. My breasts feel sore too ... is this due to excess Oestrogen or Progesterone? I am also finding that I can't think straight - I couldn't even decide what to cook for dinner this evening - it took an hour of swopping and changing before I finally cooked something -

Hi Gez,

If you are still having periods and your symptoms are new, I think they may be from too little estrogen in relation to progesterone. Especially not being able to think straight—I would think that is from too little estrogen. The breast tenderness is likely from your progesterone. Too much estrogen or too much progesterone can cause breast tenderness. Based on where you are in your cycle, your estrogen has probably taken a nose dive but your progesterone is high enough to keep your period from starting. Dr. Vliet says that in peri we often have enough progesterone but not enough estrogen (opposite to Lee). My personal experiences point to decreasing estrogen.

One way to test this theory is just to take some extra estradiol during this time and see if it helps. If you get a topical you can titrate your dose to your symptoms.

One of the things that you can do to help yourself later is to keep a daily journal of your monthly cycle so that you can trend things later.

Gez, I have also notice this type of pain, even a little pins and needle feeling.
My labs are showing my estrogen levels to be high and very little progesterone. Have no clue how that would help you just wanted to add.

Thanks Snowy - any snippet of information will help - I am on the 3rd day of my period and I am soooo sleepy. I feel like I am walking through concrete and need to lay down again after 5 minutes. Just last week I walked 3 miles... I dont get his anymore ... Its tough.
