hi all ...

i know this may sound a little different, but for about two weeks now, I've noticed that when i go into my kitchen, (not all the time, but ENOUGH), i get this weird feeling....no, it's not connected to my bad cooking..LOL .. but it seems that when i'm in my kitchen now, i get this weird ear pressure, sort of like when you're taking off in a plane .... and then, i start to get this lousy feeling behind my eyes and the bridge of my nose, sort of like a pressure, like my eyes are being pushed out and then this VERY ANXIOUS feeling comes over me, and I have to get out of the kitchen! I don't have this in any other room. This only started about 2 weeks ago.
Now, I've cleaned it from head to toe, looked for "mold", ..whatever, I don't know what this could be, unless, with this hormonal situation we're in, maybe something is affecting my hormones in the kitchen? LOL tongue.gif I know, that sounds funny, but I can't think of anything else, and these hormones seem to be able to do just about anything, things you'd NEVER connect to hormones.

so, there it is. If anyone else has this problem, please post it, I'm gettig frustrated now, and it makes it hard to even go into the kitchen. (this feeling reminds me of the feeling you get when you go up to your attic, you know that pressure feeling you feel in your ears and behind your eyes? because of the higher altitude of the attic? well, that's what this is like, it's weird.) Also, sometimes the anxiety it produces is so overwhelming, I have to immediatley take a xanax, and sit on my couch and do something to divert my attention, to think about something else, watch TV, talk to someone etc......just to literally not SCREAM, that's the amount of panic that seems to set in!!!!!!

i appreciate any and all replies!!! Sincerely, MyDarling

P.S. - also, what do any of you do for bloating? I have such terrible abdominal bloating it's awful! it feels so darn "tight"!

Hi MyDarling,
I get anxious when cleaning my house. I start to hyperventilate and get real tense. These symptoms started when I realized that we will have to sell our home within the next two years. This house was "supposed" to be our retirement home. Our taxes have tripled and the appraisal has stayed about the same since we moved here 4 years ago. We cannot afford to stay here. I think I am just mad at the situation and I turn my anger inward. I never thought about my house cleaning anxiety being hormone related.smile.gif

As for the bloating, try eating small meals frequently and drink fennel tea about an hour after eating a heavy meal. It helps me a little. I have tried GasX, Maalox, Tums, Zantac, ginger tea, chai tea and none of them help with the bloating very much.

Hi My Darling,

Do you have fluourescent lighting in your kitchen? Sometimes going into stores with a lot of fluourescent lighting came make me kinda feel weird. Can start migraines. Just a thought-----Mary

I think you guys are allergic to cooking and cleaning wink.gif

No really, there was a time when I really did not want to go into my kitchen either. I always felt like I was going to faint when I stood in the kitchen cooking. Come to find out my problem was related to my sleep deprivation due to sleep apnea. I felt like I was going to pass out because I was so tired.

My suggestion, MyDarling is to not avoid the kitchen but to keep doing as you always have. If you start avoiding the kitchen then it is only a matter of time when you will start avoiding more and more things and that will really affect your life.

Good luck!

the lighting is a good thing to consider, I get that way in walmart.

Also I wanted to say there was a time a while ago that I had an anxiety attack at around 7 pm one night so bad I had the ambulance there. I had been arguing with my son earlier that night. It had such an impact on me the next night at the same time I thought of the episode and started to generate the feelings I had then. Before I knew it every night for awhile without conciously thinking about it at around the same time I would get anxious and have full panic sometimes. It eventually went away. I can't tell you for sure that is it, but maybe a possibility you are relating it to certain feelings you may have had in that room from memories. Mikki

mydarling,

I live like this mostly every day for a long long time now......I know how this feels. The pressure in my forehead and eyes is really bad today. I just want to go home and crawl into bed. I wish I had advice for you, I'd give it to you in a second. I just try and cope the best I can....take medication when I need it and pray....

Hugs,
Karen

Hi MD I can relate to the kitchen thing iget dizzy and ear pressure when i'm in my kitchen by the sink washing dishes. What i think it is it's because i am close to the window and its drawing in the heat. And the heat causes me to have a little hotflash which brings on the funny feelings of ear pressure and anxiety. I wish you the best of luck. lizardlover

thank you guys! i know this is a weird thing, and at least i know i'm not alone with this! ok, Liz, that's EXACTLY what happens to me! it starts when I'm standing in front of the sink, there are two windows there, and that's exactly when it happens ...when I'm standing in front of the sink, just like you! Now, you said the heat ... ok, good point, but, this happens to me ANYTIME, day or night. how about you? what happens FIRST is the pressure feeling behind the eyes and bridge of nose, and in between my eyebrows. Then, the ear pressure (as if you're in a high altitude place) starts. I have to walk out of the kitchen, sometimes take a xanax, or benedryl, and take my mind off it. (but, i already said all that..lol)

as far as anxiety CAUSING it in the first place...ok, another good point! i thought of that, because it seems, i have so much anxiety these days anyway. But, why would it happen ONLY in the kitchen, and why in front of the sink..if it WERE anxiety based?
there aren't any BAD memories in my kitchen really, other than my cooking!..LOL laugh.gif (I'm NOT a good cook), I don't know...i'm out of answers. It's just one more thing to chalk up to peri insanity i suppose, i don't know what else to think.

thank you all! sincerely, MyDarling

Hi My darling -

Do you have all electric appliances? This may sound weird but I think the currents could be traveling right through you. I used to work in a restaurant and one night the counter tops were giving us all terrible shocks (really bad - one's that would make us scream out) and then the dish washer freaked out becasue the water was alive with electricity! (The restaurant was supposedly haunted and we had just challenged the "spirits" to show themselves if they were indeed present.) The ghosts may not have been the real cause - it was probably a power surge (no pun intended) - but the electrical water/counters was definitely not in our heads.
I have panic attacks sometimes and they don't ever happen in the same room so I think it is something more concrete that is happening. Just a thought.

I'm no one to offer advice to anyone anymore laugh.gif but did you have your stove checked? Don't want to panic you further! but
maybe some gas escaping? Anyone from the gas company will come check it out if you say you smell gas.

I know this sounds crazy, but I date my downhill slide to 2 years ago when we redid the kitchen- ripped out old cabinets, put in new ones etc. Sometimes I wonder if there ares some sort of fumes or chemicals in things that make us feel lousy- even cleaners etc. But I feel like c--p in every room! Like Snowmoon!

Did you ever have a bad experience in the kitchen- maybe even as a child? Know this sounds " out there " but remember the movie Sybil with Sally Field- the green kitchen thing?

I wish I knew why this stuff happens- I've battled this clogged ear thing for a year and can't get any answers or relief.

Mydarling,
I think I may have gone through a simular time. I noticed it when I managed a fast food drive-in and was the short order cook as well as everything else. Later years, I noticed it when I was working at a lunch counter. At home I notice it often when I sat at the piano. I admit it scared the wits out of me and I couldn't figure out what was going on... brain tumor? Hey, I always think the worse. Years later, a lady working for me started having simular problems and that is when I realized that I hadn't been bothered in some time. (Guess I didn't miss it either!) The one thing I noticed, looking back, is that in the times I was being bothered was when I had my head titled slightly down. Fixing meals at the fast food and the lunch counter, and looking down at the keys of the piano. (I know, your not suppose to look at the keys.... that's why I never did learn to play the piano well.) I do believe it had something to do with allergies or sinuses.
Just because that might be what mine was, and it no longer is a bother, doesn't mean that is what yours is. What I would recommend to my daughter or sister if she were having the experience is to keep a log. Where you are when it happens and what you were doing. You said it only happens in the kitchen but not everytime you are in the kitchen; so what are you doing in the kitchen when it does happen? If you go to the frontroom and stand infront of the window (if you were in front of the window in the kitchen) and look down as if to do dishes (if that is what you were doing) does the same thing happen. Or does it take standing for 5 to 15 minutes in the same spot before it starts? I think if you keep a log and ask yourself some questions, you maybe able to pin point it. Then if you have to get a doctors help, you will have better information to give that doctor.
Hope that helps. Best wishes in your trials.

hi guys,

thank you all so much for your help and suggestions! they are all very good! ok, let's see, yes, all my appliances are electical, so that's a thought there.....no gas stove, so i guess i can rule out the gas leak. It's just plain weird. It really does only happen in the kitchen, and usually when I'm standing in front of the sink, but i don't have to be doing dishes, or looking down, which was also a good thought!!! No, i can just be standing there, with my back to the sink even, perhaps talking to my husband or whatever, and it'll start. Like i said, not always, but sometimes. It can get annoying, because i can't even stay in the kitchen then! Well, i do realize there are more chemicals in the kitchen, which is true. I mean, right under the kitchen sink and counters, there are all enclosed shelves where we have lots of diff. chemicals for household things...so, maybe THAT'S it too. It doens't have to happen at any particular time of the day either. Just, whenever.....it's been pretty good latley, but then, it happened yesterday again, and i had to leave the kitchen. UGH!

ok ladies....listen, thank you all for your suggestions, and at least i know i'm not alone!!!!!!

Sincerely, MyDarling
