Sounds normal to me...well as far as normal can get..lol..I'm 44 and have been this way for .... I can't really remember! I can remember havin hotflashes and night sweats in 98...I had a hysto 20 yrs ago so as far as stopping periods that I can't tell but I use to could tell each month when it was time because I had all the other symptoms you do during your period.....now I'm lost cause I never know when it's going to hit....and when it does it's wide open! everything you can think of....but I've never been able to sleep good at night no matter what I try...seems it tends to wear off after awhile

hi,

you sound like me! I too live on benedryl and xanax..lol! wow, someone else like me! yeah, the combo really helps, huh? i know it does. It gets you past that "moment". I try not to take it if I don't absolutley have to, but there are times boy oh boy, when I REALLY DO need it! I also get these panic attacks out of nowhere, and they can be bad, I've had a few latley that were
doozies! I mean, my heart lost it's mind, started skipping all over the place (well, I've had that now since 1992), but it hasn't acted up for quite sometime, until recently. I cry a lot too. I too get mad for reasons unknown, and i have a tendency now, to panic over any little health issue. I know, this is really something, but the more you go through all this, the more you almost start to take it a little less seriously. It's hard, but no, you're NOT CRAZY! it's peri!!!!!!

hang in there.........sincerely, MyDarling

Hi Cheryl,

If you do not want to feel like this anymore you can consider taking some human hormones. There are some very good books by Elizabeth Vliet that you could read and help you decide what to do. One is It’s My Ovaries Stupid and the other is Screaming to be Heard. Another book to look up is “Preventing Menopause” by Beth Rosenshein. I just ordered that book and have not read it yet but I have heard good reviews.

I am 45.5 and I am in peri. I take natural estradiol, testosterone, and progesterone and these hormones have given me my life back.

I am ordering the book too so I can't wait to read it. Can you please tell me if your NHRT come in as a cream or orral or patches. And how has it help to get your life back. What was your symptoms? How long have you been taking NHRT? and how long did it take for the NHRT to work? I like to hear more success stories so we can all learn from them.

Thanks.

Hi, does anyone know if I could use either estrogen or progesterone while being on the birth control pill which my doctor says has both. My mood swings are bad and am not sure if extra progesterone would help or make things worse. What about low dosage antidepressants; has anyone tried those? I just started one and have loss of appetite and dry mouth; still have panic attacks that I'm getting through but it's so hard. This site and all the people on it are amazing.

Jan,

It could actually BE the BCP's that are making you feel so bad! I wouldn't take more hormones on top of those. I would stop taking the BCP's and see if you didn't get better! Also, yes, there are many low dose A/D's that you might consider taking for anxiety and panic attacks. Lexapro helped me immensly 4 yrs. ago but the side effects are not plesant. It does take from 2-6 weeks for them to even things out. You might consider a low dose anti-anxiety medication to help as well, which is only prescribed by your Dr. The side effects of some meds are just not worth the benefits. You must weigh them both and make a decision. It is helpful to have someone else in your home help evaluate this if you are indeed having panic attacks frequently.

Hope you do better!

Hi, I'm new too. I hae been to the doctor I don't know how many times in the past 6 months. I had a hysterectomy 20 years ago when I was 30. I have hot flashes and night sweats and have hrt patch. Lately I have so many aches and pains, mood swings, crying jags you name it. My doctor says that my job is causing me too much stress and that if I get rid of the job the aches will go away. Easier said than done as I am alone.
I stumbled upon this site this morning and felt like I was no longer crazy!
