I just realized the supplements I was taking were making my anxiety/TMJ remarkedly worse?! While I believe they helped with my adrenal problems, I realized that when I forgot to take it my jaw was not so stiff. SO I now stopped taking them. Anyone else had a problem such as this? What a rollercoaster ride - never a dull moment.

It was called DSF formula and alot of vitamin Bs, adrenal support and numerous other digestive aids. I do notice I am more tired without it but couldn't stand the TMJ. Do you have TMJ from meno or did you have it before. Mine came on suddenly with dental work and severe meno symptoms.

When you say that your TMJ was worse -- what does that mean exactly --??-- headaches...neckaches.. --??-- Perhaps you were experiencing more muscle tension and therefore it aggravated the TMJ --??--
This is what's in the DSF Forumula product:
Adrenal 25mg, Thymus 70mg, Spleen 20mg, Stomach 10mg, Parotid 80mg, (all bovine source). Vitamin C 175mg, Vitamin B-2 15mg, Vitamin B-6 10mg, Niacinamide 15mg, Pantothenic Acid (D-Calcium Pantothenate) 105mg, Grape Seed Extract 1mg, Lemon Bioflavonoids 225mg, L-Tyrosine 175mg, Magnesium (as oxide) 45mg, Zinc (as chelate) 5mg, Chromium (as chelate) 50mcg, Potassium (as chelate) 2mg, Chlorella 50mg.
I don't really see anything that might be stimulating to create muscle tension but then I've never taken any "glandulars" before either...maybe they do that --??
I like to take things individually so that I can tell if I have a reaction to it -- however I do take a multi-vitamin but it doesn't have anything "exotic" in it -- it's Cooper Complete w/ Iron.
Well... I hope you can figure something out. I have TMJ too and when it acts up I can be miserable. I've been seeing a "rolfer" for my TMJ and other trigger point issues. THAT has made a huge difference for me.
Best wishes...
Jann

Hi! Can I ask what TMJ is? Can't for the life of me figure out what it is and I'm probably going to feel stupid when someone explains it. But I just had to ask. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!!!

Depending on what part of the adrenal..could be stimulating..why the glandulars? B Vits can be stimulating to some people and L-Tyrosine is a Dopamine precursor..which is an excitatory neurotransmitter.

Jann - after feeling GREAT for two weeks the anxiety has come back (without taking the DSF but undergoing alot of stress with family member very ill). I do think the DSF was excerbating the anxiety as I have read that too much vitamin Bs can cause nervousness (have also recently read that certain supplements interact with estrogen(?) . However, now that the anxiety and tight jaw have kicked back in big time, I don't know what to do. Yes I do think the TMJ is "just" tight muscles and not truly TMJ; however, the jaw gets so tight that it affects everything in my mouth like TMJ. SO I guess back to the gyno (going for annual anyway) and chiro but hopefully will be able to get anxiety under control again before everything tightens up and gets worse again.

Aviano - thanks - I know there was something in that DSF making the anxiety so bad. How do you know all this - if you dont' mind me asking?

Hi ladies, Have you been diagnosed with tmj? I don't think I have it, but due to my bruxism, which has been diagnosed, the joints in my jaw are very tender all the time. I use a night guard at night and have been for many months, and I'm just now feeling relief. Not quite as tender. I don't have stiffness. I can open and close my mouth, sometimes have to open wide and close in order to release tension in my joint, or to stretch, not quite sure.
What exactly does TMJ feel like?
thanks,
bev

Bev - I haven't actually been diagnosed with TMJ but after reading and reading about it, I have the same symptoms so refer to it as such. The dentists say it is "just" grinding my teeth. SO I am attributing it now to anxiety. Because of so much dental work, thought perhaps was from that. However, after being without any pain for a few weeks, with anxiety back AND tight jaw, within a few weeks my jaw will be so tight it will ache constantly. When this started months ago, I had a daily headache and all my teeth also hurt, not from grinding but from nerves in jaw from tension. Hope this helps. i have found great relief from chiropractor and will revisit him if need be.

Hi springsjean, Exactly what I've been through. Excruciating teeth pain for 1 1/2 years or more. 4 root canals I think, due to broken teeth. Took 3 or 4 maybe 5 dentists before one told me that I was grinding. I had all of my upper molars crowned. Have been tooth pain free since. Except for the joint pain in my jaw. I don't know why I thought the pain in my joint would be gone when I got my night guard. It just keeps me from breaking my teeth. Now that I know I do it, I wake up often finding myself chewing on that thing.
Talk to you later,
bev

Bev - have you had a problem with anxiety at all during peri? I was actually a nervous kid in school and even as a young adult but never never experienced anything like the anxiety I am going thru now. I am in fact on HRT and having good luck with it except for the anxiety.

No..I don't mind you asking..Lots of reading and research over the years..orthomolecular approach to psychiatry as well as mood issues related to endocrine causes, issues are a particular interest of mine. There are lots of good books on the subject I can recommend if you like. Start with the Safe Harbor alternative mental health site for recommendations (google). For women's hormone advice, I like Reiss, Vliet, Gillespie and Ed Klaiber. There is also a book called "Preventing Misdiagnosis in Women" that I've read excerpts from and I've ordered a copy.
