A friend gave me her Estrace cream that she doesn't want to use because it is "messy." Great for me, though, because I am so totally unable to have sex that I'm getting extremely depressed about it. I read the instructions and decided to go very cautiously. I first rubbed some into the thin skin on the insides of my arms to see if it would affect anything--and it DID help a little.

Next, I used about half the does the doc had told her to use (and the instructions said to use) vaginally overnight, and was able to have sex after a couple of days---sort of. I still had constriction/atrophy and some dryness, even though we use "lube." But there was a small improvement, though it still wasn't anything but very uncomfortable.

So I did use small amounts on my skin, and then used the cream in the recommended dose a couple days ahead of time, and we were able to have intercourse for the first time in MONTHS!

BUT--I had TERRIBLE cramps afterward! My ovaries really hurt a lot! Plus I had a migraine!! This lasted until I finally took an Advil (which is a prostaglandin-blocker and always shut the cramps down before meno) and it worked, thank goodness! But I was in agony for at least four hours....and the migraine did finally go away with the help of the Advil and feverfew.

I have Pro-Gest progesterone cream and know that progesterone helps balance estrogen. I did use some of the cream to try to stop the cramps.

SO, ladies, I have these two creams and I need to know how to use them BEST. I don't know when or even if I'll ever be able to get any more Estrace so I have to use them so that I can at least have sex for a little while! tongue.gif

What do you recommend? (Yes, I've been reading the files here online but it's DAUNTING the amount of material here....) I sure do hope someone can help.

Hey there Sadieblack,
Welcome to Power Surge! Bear picture is so cute. Hmm, using Estrace right? I've used it - and I have a prescription for it - I only use it when it's really, really bad. I don't use progesteron cream.

When I first took it - my GYN said to use 1/2 dose recommended - vaginally every day for a week... then use it regulary 2 times a week. From what I remember a dose was 1/3 of the plunger - everyone would be different depending on the dryness. I must say it did worked well - the drying went away and had a semi. normal sex life. Some of the side effect for me was sensitive breast - hurt terribly. So I switched over to KY liqidbeads- that used in the vagina - it moisturizes for 3 or 4 days. Some meno. sisters use Replens - and that moisturizes the vaginal area. Some use Vit. E caplets the same way. Lots and lots of info. is provided with Power Surge.

There is a prescription vaginal pill available so you don't have the mess of vaginal cream. Darn - can't remember the name of the pill. Any chance you can talk to a family Dr. or GYN - they can sometimes give samples to see what works best for you.

Hope you feel better soon.

Oops, forgot to mention that the GYN said I was to take Estrace at night right before I went to bed - to allow it to absorb all night.

I suggest going to *** and reading the info on the ProGest cream. You can buy single use containers, use one twice a day. The company told me that it can take several days up to two months to see results from it if you are going to. This is not something that will help you if you only use it occasionally. Good luck!
