Nice to find this forum. I am 46 yrs old and have had erratic periods for past 8 months.

5 weeks ago my period was 2 weeks late when I started spotting. After 10 days I had a few hours of extremely heavy bleeding then back to light to medium bleeding for next two days. On the 3rd day I again had heavy bleeding for about 12 hrs then back to light to moderate for next 2 days and this has gone on like clockwork ever since.

I saw my Dr and i have an appt with gynaecologist in two weeks. I had a normal ultrasound scan 3 months ago so my Dr says its probably hormonal. I am getting blood test to check I am not aneamic tomorrow.

I know the gyny wil want to do hysteroscoy and possibley d&c.

I have read previous posts which have made me feel better as it seems lots of women get his continuious bleeding when in full throws of meno but its still very unerving as I have always had bad health anxiety.

Would love to hear some of your experiences and what happened.

mrsjitters, If you've read the posts I'm sure you've come across mine. I am one of the marathoners. I bled for 2months straight - 3 periods strung together by continuous spotting and just like you I thought (because we are always told irregular bleeding is abnormal) that I was indeed dying. My gyn sent me for an ultrasound and thank goodness everything was fine. Of course you should always check out irregular bleeding but this continuous period does seem pretty common in peri. For me it signaled the end of my periods because 16 months later I was post meno. It is definitely a trying time but hang in there it does get better. Let us know how you make out. Arla.

Hello mrsjitters,
I had the never ending period too. Got on my nerves so I went to gyn and he prescribed a pill that made me stop. Had an ultrasound and had a thickened endometrium. Had two endometrial biopsies (UGH!) first one showed hyperplasia and second one was normal along with 2 ultrasounds. It's always best to get those kind of things checked out regardless of having the same symptoms in the past. My doc wants me in his office if I haven't had a period in 3 months so he can check up on me. It's a good thing to keep an eye on it as a thickened endometrium can lead to uterine cancer.
