I'm here because my moron of a Doctor says I have menopause.... Umm... yeah.... SURE I DO.... freeking idiot.
WHAT is my symptom of menopause... a period that will not stop.
So... ding bat put me on ten days worth of Depro 5 mils 2X.... and I thought I was gonna DIE.... OMG... headache, leg cramps, nausea, vomiting... a nasty rash... and I'm PISSED and discontinue the crap after seven days. Oh... yeah, and the three whole days I just spent in bed... whimpering.

Now... her stupid little self wants to put me on low dose birth control... yeah.... what froze over? I don't think so dingy.

I had an endiomertial biopsy... with "disordered" results... and a pap smear... oh and of course the poison.

I'm NOT a happy camper... and I DO NOT HAVE menopause... so what DO I have?
Zip for sweating, hot flashes, memory loss... nothing on the list but the miserable period.

I just want it to STOP, and don't really CARE how I stop it.... (I'm a small business owner, with no insurance... and I'm NOT doing anything that involves knives or needles.... I'm NOT PLAYING THAT GAME.)

I don't GET female complaints... it doesn't HAPPEN... and it is going to STOP... anyone with suggestions is welcome to make them! and TIA!

Kathy

Hi Kathy,
Well you don't 'have menopause', but you are in perimenopause, and prolonged periods are one of the symptoms. Like you, I've had no other symptoms (hot flashes, etc.) except some prolonged bleeds (and skipped periods). You might look in the "Bleeding" forum for stories of many of us who have gone through this and the various things we've tried: http://www.power-surge.com/php/forums/index.php?showforum=38. You're not alone!

Doctors are Idiots! I sure don't need one to say I'm not in perimeno but I HAVE!
I'm also fed up with this CRAP! My last period lasted 18 days and now this one is too weeks late!
I'm not even for sure how to count anymore!
I'm so miserable!
HOT as hell today! Is there such a thing as spontaneous conbustion? I'm about to find out!!!
Menopausal women do not go to hell! We have lived it here on earth!

Kathy: I had the crazy bleeding last year as well; one period that lasted six or seven weeks during the summer was terrifying. But then I learned that this happens to a lot of women in perimenopause, due to hormone imbalances, anovulatory cycles, etc., which cause your endometrial layer to build up and then shed all at once. Typically, the doctor will give you an endometrial biopsy and in some cases a d&c/hysteroscopy. The purpose of these is to make sure that you don't have any abnormal cells; they're just being on the safe side. Once it's established you're okay, it's often the case the doctor will suggest low dose birth control pills. I'm not sure why you think your doctor is crazy to want to prescribe these. The idea is that they will take control of your hormones so that your cycles and bleeding will be under control. My doctor prescribed Yaz, but I really didn't want to take them and didn't. Gradually, things returned to a semblance of "normal," although now I tend to skip more. If I had experienced another soaker in the months after my d&c, I would probably have taken the Yaz to get some relief, but so far, so good. I don't think there's anything out of the ordinary in her prescribing bcp for you, but I definitely understand why you are worried about taking them because I had the same concerns and ultimately decided not to. If the problem doesn't get resolved, though, you might want to think about it. As one of the other posters suggested, you should check out the "Bleeding" message board, so that you will see how widespread this problem is.

Thank you ladies.... I appreicate the support and the responses... except I DO NOT HAVE Menopause, or peri menopause... or any other silly thing anyone can come up with.
I'm 46 and have NEVER had any type of chick thing in my life... I'm sure not starting NOW.

As for my mentally retarded doctor and her low dose birth control suggestion... no. The Depro she put me on that made me so sick was strike THREE for her.... she is no longer allowed to prescribe anything but my asthma meds and the occasional antibiotic.

I also appreciate being sent to the "heavy bleeding" section....

It was a good time....

Now... I am NOT a doctor... and I am NOT giving medical advice.... but after some experimentation and a lot of research...

It appears that some combo of what I threw together... made the bleeding stop in three days.... an OLD book suggested a heavy dose of vitamin A (careful on that you can kill yourself if you make too heavy a dose), another real OLD book suggested I eat spoon fulls of honey.... (enjoy... if you like honey, and no you cannot sub sugar), I threw in a real heavy dose of vitiman K (water soluable vitamin... can't kill yourself), and continued my iron pills and my wild yam root.
Now I have spots.... which I can deal with....
It was totally gone... so I re dosed everything this morning.... I am NOT putting up with this CRAP.... NOR am I playing with anymore fool doctors.

I actually don't KNOW any women... and all my friends want to take me to the emergency.... lol
As I'm NOT my usual self, and totally unwilling to flop on a creeper and take a look see at what is WRONG with your vehicle.
I also turned down a roofing project, some remodel project, and am refusing to LIFT anything....the guys think I've cracked.
A couple checked with their wives... and informed me the bleeding thing was normal... and THEN told me all about the alledged menopause thingy... and what they LIVED WITH.... ohhh... shudder!
Nope... no way in hell am I particapating in that little project....
I AM getting MY stuff done.... all my groom dogs go in and out on their normal schedule.
Aside from that... there is NO SUCH THING as menopause.... I'm having absolutly nothing whatsoever to do with it!

Kathy: This is so ironic. Many of the women (chicks lol) here are frustrated that their doctors claim they are too young for meno; you, on the other hand, would be perfectly happy with a doctor who denies the existence of peri. Maybe there could be some kind of doctor swap meet so we could all trade up for the doctor who tells us what we want to hear.

I'm sure your vitamins are awesome, but just in case you end up back in the same bleeding boat next month, you might want to do a little research on progesterone.

Dear Kathy
There is a River In Egypt that you should look up .... wink.gif
I understand your frustration......and in some ways...denial is a part of menopause. ooopsies.....I said that "M" word....... tongue.gif
Cheers!!

Kathy5227
Did the research on progesterone, it's what made me so damn sick.... now how long does this horrible stuff stay in your system?
It's been three WEEKS and I still have a rash. Still having bouts of vomiting, still all tired and feel like crap. Still having weird mood swings... I don't GET mood swings....

If anyone can tell me how long this stuff lasts, I will be forever grateful... cause I'm starting to get real depressed.

My sister claims three MONTHS.... I can't take this for two more months.... I just can't. I need to see some light at the end of the tunnel.....

TIA,

Kathy
Rohnda
Take a chill pill and listen to the wisdom these women have to offer. You'll be better off in the long run. Denial can last only so long.
Kathy5227
YOU take a chill pill... and LISTEN for a change.

I realize this board is all about women... and I happen to be one... and not by choice... I was GIVEN 5 mils of DEPRO tiwce a day... I took it for seven DAYS... it made me sick as a dog.

All I WANT TO KNOW is when the damn depro will wear OFF.

I don't give a flying f*** at a rolling doughnut about anything else.

Y'all can have hot flashes and whatever floats your boat.... I was POISONED, and want to know how long it LASTS.

SOMEONE else must have taken this ****.... and can tell me how long the nasty side effects (approx) last.

As for the vitamin A and heavy bleeding... TRY IT before you tell me it won't work.

So a recap for the challenged.... I was GIVEN FIVE MILLS OF DEPRO TWICE A DAY... which I took for seven DAYS... vomiting, leg cramps, abdominal pain, a nasty ITCHY RASH.... got it??? I want to know how long it takes for the depro to WEAR OFF.
That is my ONLY question... no, I'm not joining the girlies in the menaopause thingy.... I joined here because I figured someone could answer my question... and all I'm getting is nonsense.

I'm a asprin allergic asthmatic... and depro was contra indicated for me to START WITH... now.... if anyone knows how long this S**t stays in one's system.... let me KNOW...
OTHERWISE... buy a freeking river in Egypt.... and don't bother to invite me for the boat ride!

Oh... and if it IS menopause... should the nasty depro ever wear off... the cure is Viamin A & D, with some K... a little red sports car... and lots of twenty five year old men.
Do it up in STYLE ladies... and all I want to know about is the depro... and how long it's gonna make me feel nasty.

Kathy
Tiger79
Kathy,

You may not want to hear this, but it's the truth: everyone's body is different and responds to hormones in different ways. The Depro will wear off when it wears off; or, it may already have and you're simply having other symptoms of perimenopause. There is no "cure" for menopause - your body will go through many changes until you're fully in menopause, and if you read these forums you'll see all the different manifestations those changes can produce. Some people sail through with barely a hot flash, others have debilitating sweats, anxiety, irritability (ahem wink.gif), palpitations, pains of various sorts, bleeding, etc. Better to be informed and try to work *with* your body rather than rail against what is obviously happening to you.

Gee, I'm pretty sure rage is on the list of symptoms of peri and menopause. tongue.gif

As for not joining the girlies in the menopause "thingy", well you really have no choice. You admitted you were a woman so sooner or later, your ovaries is gonna call it quits. A fleet of red sports cars and and an army of 20-something men won't be able to prevent it.

No woman has to hang out here, and plenty of women don't. After all there are millions of women going through menopause but only 29,000 members here. But there is a lot of knowledge, empathy and companionship here that neither sportscars nor young males can provide. Even you didn't turn to either of them for answers to your current problem.

You might have received more answers if you were more respectful.
Kathy5227
Take a chill pill... and not be in denial... so funny... as I get another heavy period and the poison is wearing off... and load on vitamin A & D, with some K and iron thrown in... oh.. and some spoon fulls of honey on the instance of my grandmother...

Dang... the dratted thing lasted four days.... Pain in the A$$... cause it should have been three days... but.. whatever.

I wouldn't have even bothered to come back to share... but after careful research... a heavy dose of vitamin A STOPS bleeding in 90% of subjects... and the bleeding is a pain in the A$$... So... I will share.

If I can help ONE chickie... then I did my job.

If you want to IGNORE the advice... then do so.. don't tell me to take progesterone, which makes me sick as a dog... don't natter on about peri menopause...

All I'm interested in is stopping the bleeding... wonderful results... next month I will start to vitamin A load a couple days before it's due... regular as clock work.

I don't think this site is actually directed towards what I would consider to be a normal soloution to an irritating problem.... however, if any of you are open minded enough to TRY what I suggested... let me know what happens.

Kathy
Tiger79
I'm glad the Vitamin A is working for you, but I presume you're aware that it's a fat-soluble vitamin, stored in the liver, and can be toxic in high doses. Just make sure you're not taking too much.
Miss Tibbs
Tiger 79,

Perhaps you should find another doctor. You're obviously not happy with this one--why would you trust her to treat your other medical problems?

Your posts remind me of the old saying, "If wishes were horses, then beggers would ride." Unfortunately we can't wish our female problems away. If we could, I would have opted out starting with puberty.

Be careful taking megadoses of vitamins without a doctors advice. You don't want to cause more problems than you are already having.

BTW, menopause doesn't mean you have to give up your youthful way of life of red cars and young men. Your life can go on just as before if that's what you want.

Now, let 'er rip. I know you'll have some angry retort since we aren't medically trained and can't tell you anything about the Depro. You need to ask a doctor or pharmacist about that.

Miss Tibbs
Tiger79
Hey, that's Kathy you're addressing, not me! smile.gif
Miss Tibbs
So sory, Tiger. What a time for me to have a Meno Moment. I knew it wouldn't be long before I'd mess up like that. Please accept my apologies.

Miss Tibbs
Tiger79
No problem! I just want people to know that I'm not in denial at all: peri is alive and flourishing at my house! blink.gif
Miss Tibbs
Thank you, Tiger. There was no denial here either--as a matter of fact--I was relieved to find out my symptoms were from menopause--of course that was before the floor really fell out from under me. I can't believe I was so unprepared for this. I thought you just had a few hotflashes and your periods stopped. How wrong I was!

I think my meno-brain focused on your name because I'm a cat person and it appealled to me. I'm really sorry to have made that mistake.

Tell me about it. My mother went through menopause at age 42 - her periods just stopped, and that was that. So I thought that's what would happen to me, too. Imagine my surprise to find that one can have a period that lasts 6+ weeks! rolleyes.gif

Kathy, I hope you will get my reply here. I know exactly what you are going through. My doctor did the same thing to me!! I had a violent reaction to the crap she gave me and when I called to complain, it seems that I was the one with the odd "problem" and they had never heard of such a reaction. I ended up calling several pharmacies in my area and spoke with the pharmicist about it. They all reassured me that it would take a several days to leave my system. Especially anything that has been injected that has an oil base. Luckily, I only took the pills they gave. Listen to your body. Each hour the crap you took is leaving your system. You will return to normal. I am very sensitive to ANY medication and I now know that when a doctor prescribed me anything, I start out with only half the recommended dose and I see how I am going to react. Yes, we need to listen to good advice, but I will tell you hands down, I trust my instincts before I will trust any doctor!!!!!! Hang in there... DebraD

Debra: I hope you start to feel better real soon. smile.gif

and Kathy5227: I know you haven't been on forum for a while, so you'll likely not even see this, but I have to tell you - you made my day!!!

I have been trolling through the website because I am peri- or menopausal (I still have one ovary but no uterus), and I happened upon your thread. BTW: I hope your heaving bleeding is no longer a problem.

Anway, when I first began reading the posts, I couldn't decide if I thought you were perhaps:

1) the most arrogant, rudest woman I had ever met on site;

2) a total "head case" - (I'm at least a "partial head case" myself) rolleyes.gif ;

3) suffering most severely from meno-madness;

4) in denial; or,

5) NONE OF THE ABOVE! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

I still have not made my final decision - who am I to judge anyway cool.gif, but I must say, I admire your spunk and determination!! Personally, I LOVE being a girly girl (albeit a rather old one huh.gif ), and although I despise all the discomforts and pains and strains and everything else that goes with the peri-/meno territory - I wouldn't trade my gender for anything. But........ I wish I could approach the whole ordeal with a bit of your attitude - I have no doubt that you'll continue fighting, kicking and screaming -all the way to the other side of meno, and that you will THRIVE!!! You go girl!!

Tiger: GO PENN STATE!!!? The tiger mascot..... smile.gif I attended a local lovely campus of PennState many years ago for a professional certification - love the school - my husband LIVES for Penn State football!

Be well all....

I just wonder if anyone explained to this distraught woman who started the post that there is a MONSTER world of difference between natural progesterone cream and the synethic depro version?

As for the symptoms, I think I understand a bit of what she is saying. There is acute pain in being overtreated with a synthetic drug on top of a frightening and confusing situation that one is attempting to alleviate.

Like some of you, I experienced more than one hemorrhage, hormone related and did end up in the emergency with IV's and a DNC. Bleeding that goes on like this at the age she reports can be related to that not ovulating thing and building up the lining thing and hormones flying out of whack thing. But do the tests and make sure. In what I call a hormone washout, you are so abnormally vulnerable you can react in several different ways depending upon your unique personality:

1) fear, anxiety, panick attacks
2) aggression, anger, bitternerss, blaming
3) denial, which brings us back to number 2

Most women do run to the Dr and cry HELP ME. The Dr. pulls together his or her personal experiential arsenal and provides the treatment they feel will work fastest. Or they give you a quick fix and send you to an OB/GYN who then does the same thing only with more firepower.

Yep, you can get inundated by treatments that are applied like nuclear warfare. You can feel poisoned, sickened, threatened and humiliated for trusting the doctors and later, angry at yourself.

Perhaps this gal would be happier with a hysterectomy and be done with it. She has had no history of female complaints, enjoyed a carefree female existence among men until now and would rather keep it that way. If she has her ovaries removed, she won't have to worry about any possibility of cancer there. She could continue to successfully be a woman in a mans world, as it were.

Just random thoughts here.

And yeah, I would sure check out that Vitamin A dosage and see what the recommended allowance is per day of that particular type. You can take Milk Thistle to help prevent liver toxicity and damage...vitamin overdosing could put you in the hospital and make you feel poisoned.

Nobody really warns you about midlife and menopause. Or if they do, you don't want to listen until it hits you like a sledge hammer. Then you just want somebody, please, to fix it in a hurry.
