I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong place, it seemed like it might fit into this category. I did a bit of a search and didn't find this addressed, please forgive me if it was but I missed it.

I was wondering thoughts on blood vs. saliva tests for hormones.

Results people have had and what they felt about them if that makes any sense.

I've been told saliva was more accurate but I was ordered blood tests by the Dr.

I was told saliva was more accurate too , but the docs all do bloodtests. all i can tell you is what ive read and ive done a few saliva tests in the past thru my naturalpath and im doing 2 more soon. when i get a copy of the saliva tests it comes with all the numbers and an explanation and recommendations if something is off. i guess we get the same things from bloodtests tho dont we? ok well i guess i havent really helped much have i? lol

The doctors who write all the good hormone books (Vliet, Reiss, Gillespie) recommend blood testing. There does not seem to be much of a cost difference between blood and saliva tests so why not just do blood testing? These particular doctors actually say that the saliva tests offer them little value or information that they are able to use.

Saliva testing measures the free amount of hormone in your system. Blood tests can measure free as well as total and even bioavailable (for testosterone) (depending on what is orderd). Saliva tests are limited because most MDs are used to reading blood test results and not saliva test results.
