I have always had oily skin but now that the peri has hit my oily skin has gotten really bad. Im dabbing powder on all day to keep the shine under control. I have tried so many different cleansers but just keep going back to my Camay which is the only thing that cleanses without causing me to break out. I read where oily skin can be a symptom of vit. B2 deficiency so I have some of that on order. Does anyone else have this problem and what products do you use to keep it under control? Have you found any cosmetics (foundation mostly) that don't melt away within a few hours?

I use plain powder instead of foundation-maybe some concealer if needed. As far as cleansing,Melaleuca has some good cleansers just for oily skin.Maybe someone where you live sells it?If not they have a website.

HI

My face is also incredibly oily, what works for me is, is to use a facial mask on my face once every 2 weeks and that seems to be helping me, sometimes i feel like a teen with an acne problem, i get pimples and breakouts everywhere, i thought this would all stop but it came back to haunt me, i also use foundation that is not oily its a very reputable brand and it lasts all day and does not wear off.

I use the Bare Minerals line. A little spendy but it lasts a long time. You can get online or any Sephora store.

B2 ? hmm.. might try it. i have the shiny face thing too. i feel really embarrassed by it. altho, a friend pointed out that my skin may be oily, but i do not have the wrinkles that can come with a drier skin type, so i try to console myself with that while dabbing oil from my face with a cotton square... smile.gif

OK, I'm a guy, but I've had grease-ball face for most of my adult life. I really like bentonite clay and cider vinegar as a mask. s*cks out the oil and all the blemishes too. It works great as a poltice for localized pimples. For the mask you mix the bentonite with cider vinegar and it fizzes up as you mix it. Make it pretty loose as it dries quickly. Put it on like you would any other mask and wait until you can't stand it any longer. Then wash with plain water. Don't use soap as that undoes the effect. Ironically your face will feel a bit oily, but it's not, it won't be all day. If you leave it on for a long time, you may end up with a slightly red face, so try it when you don't need to be anywhere very soon. I don't get red, but fairer skined folks do.

So I'll go clear my throat deeply and try to go be manly now. laugh.gif

Where do you get bentonite clay?

Healthfood stores usually carry it. It's available online too.

No, my wife unfortunately doesn't...almost everyone else does, but not her. Guess that's par for the course though aye?

OK, I'm gonna head on outta here. I feel a bit strange participating in a menopause forum. I thought it would work for me, but it's odd. Thanks for all your great input all!

Thanks everyone for sharing their tips. Yup, I have oily skin problems too - I use Witch Hazel or Mary Kay Toner. I don't use a foundation, it would be to greasy looking within 3 or 4 hrs. - I use a powder type thing. That seems to help.

A couple of years ago, I was complaining to one of my grandmoms (she was 92 yrs. old) about the oily facial skin I have - she smiled and said to be glad about that - the oily ones face is - the less winkles will show or develop... The dryer the face is, the sooner the wrinkles show. You know - I think she was right tongue.gif ...or maybe hoping so biggrin.gif

I found clinque or Mac cosmetic houses sell little packets of blotting sheets. They are made of strange plastic but they kept my face clearer better than keep putting powder on. Anything like witch hazel may actually aggravate the problem as your skin wrks harder to replace the oil.

I have been taking the B2 for a month or so, don't see any difference. I have returned to using my old Foundation, Lancome Tint Idole. It lasts the longest of anything I have tried. It looks like I have polycystic ovary syndrome which more than explains the oily skin, facial hair, etc. I am now on a new diet and taking lots of different supplements to get control over my cortisol levels and insulin resistance. Hopefully these things will be the fix for the oil.

Just thought I would give an update. I started taking 10 grams per day of d-calcium pantothenate. I take 5 tablets twice daily, timed release. I think it might be helping some. It can take up to three months to see the total effect. It is supposed to keep the sebaceous glands from secreting oil. The recommended dose is 10 grams per day but that seems a bit much.

Now, for the make up issue. I tried the Bare Minerals and I am a convert! I start getting shiny in the T Zone about mid day (for me that is 6 hours or so after I put on the make up). I use some oil blotting papers (Clean and Clear or bare minerals), then re-apply some mineral veil and I am good to go for the rest of the day. My make up does not start to melt away when I get shiny. At the end of the day, after a touch up, it looks just as good as it did when it went on in the morning. I can't even tell that the makeup is on. I get fairly good coverage, still use my Maybelline cover stick for major concealment issues. I really like the Bare Vitamins skin Rever-upper. It provides an excellent base for the bare minerals. I splurged and got the bare minerals compact with the mini buki brush. This way my Mineral Veil can go with me in my purse, in a nice neat package.

Gracie, the oily skin is probably the hormanal fluctuations, some women get more oily some more dry. Im a makeup artist and Smashbox makes an excellent product to keep the oil at bay. Its called Antishine, comes in a tiny compact. Also, try using a primer before applying foundation, I use that everytime Im apply foundation on anyone. I like Smashbox primer the best, they use sesame oil in it. Laura Mercier makes a good primer as well. Also, Laura Mercier oil-free foundation works well, great coverage too, when used with the primer. Nars also is one I use often when working (oil free). As far as supplements for oily skin, evening primrose oil capsules will help balance out the oil production. And always set your foundation with a very good loose powder, make sure its translucent (no pigment). I like Laura Mercier or Lancome. Good luck.
