Hi, I wonder if anyone can help shed some light on this. I'm perimenopausal (45yrs old) and I haven't had a full period for about 3 months now. Last month, in the middle of what I thought was my cycle, I felt like I ovulated. You know, the vague abdominal pain you get for a couple of days and the clear discharge that often accompanies ovulation. Anyway, I thought that in 14 days after this I would get a period, but guess what, I didn't. I got some very vague period-like pains, which could have been IBS for all I know, and then I got the clear discharge again for a couple of days, instead of a period. Is this what is termed as a phantom period? Is it possible to have a clear discharge period without the red pigmentation? After all, I read somewhere that a period is not just blood, but blood mixed up with discharge of some kind.

Just so you know, I've been taking natural progesterone cream for the last 2 and 1/2 months. It's a 1.6% cream, very low dosage, and it got rid of my hot flashes, and my libido came back (woo hoo!), but since I've been on the progesterone I only had one tiny period (more like spotting) about a month ago, and this past month I just had the ovulation-like symptoms and then 14 days later (while taking my break from progesterone) this clear discharge only. I know I am heading toward menopause as I didn't get a real period for a while, but I don't understand the clear discharge thing. By the way, it's not a watery discharge per se, it's more the slippery clear discharge kind that women get at ovulation time.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? And what IS a phantom period anyway? Your help is appreciated.

Cheers, Rosepurple

Your body may have tried to ovulate 2 weeks ago, and it did not succeed and hten now it is trying again, if it is egg white type discharge, it is ovulation so look for period in 2 weeks.

Hi, thanks for that. Perhaps that is what will happen. We'll soon see. It's very strange though. Cheers, RP
