I have tried 4 antidepressants and I am amazed that each one helps immediately with crying jags but not one has helped the depression. Each antidepressant was given a try for 4 months. Has anyone noticed the antidepressant they take helps right away with crying jags? I have no idea why they don't help me with the depression. Perhaps hormones are key.

That is interesting. I wonder if you are raising the seratonin just enough to stop the crying jags but not enough to help with the depression. I ended up using bios to stop mine, never had issues with depression though.

hi icedancer, sometimes ad's can cause you to be more emotionless so you don't feel anything to cry. hormones are key in helping seratonin in the brain. you should have a full hormone and thyroid panel done. doctors should be doing this anyway before prescribing ad's. i take zoloft, but it was prescibed to me years ago before anything else was checked. after crashing in 04', i found a good doc who checked everything and i have thyroid disease and low hormones. i have suffered with depression, and now i finally know why. good luck, hugs, kelly

I started taking Cymbalta 5 months ago, not for depression but for nerve pain (occipital neuralgia). I haven't been able to cry since! I've been to 4 or 5 funerals during that time, and I couldn't even cry then. It's rather frustrating, because I've always been a cryer - at happy times, sad times, Hallmark commercials.... I would like to be able to release some tears occasionally.
