Do any of you suffer naseau as a symptom?? I have been so nauseated for over a week-constantly. It began right about the time I was expecting my period (which is late for the second cycle in a row). Both cycles I noticed sore breasts and nausea, much worse this time, though. I wonder if there is any correlation to the point I'm at in my cycle?? And maybe when my period fianlly starts the nausea will subside??
Does anyone have any experience with this? Will this get better? Is there anything I can do to get some relief? I truly feel like its impacting my quality of life and I am not sure I can stand much more. At least with morning sickness I got a baby in the end! And I knew it would only last about 8 or 9 weeks!
I did have awful morning sickness with all of my pregnancies, i wonder if that's why i am suffering from it now in peri-menopause?
I would love to hear from anyone who has this as a symptom and what they did about it? I have an appointment with a doctor next week, I am praying he can do something because I feel so miserable and i am making everyone around me miserable as well!
Thanks for letting me ramble....

Yes, I had this, even when I was smelling foods or eating different foods it got worse. I experienced this for maybe a month or two and it went away.
You must watch what you are eating, deep breathing and some soothing teas help me out a lot. Chamomile and things like that. It does get better.. I felt like I was pregnant but It was all the this peri mess. I will pray for you.

Millie: I've dealt with chronic nausea all my life. If it doesn't go away, your doctor can prescribe meds for it. I take Fenergan (which makes all nausea magically go away...unfortunately its also got some weird side effects....like involuntary twitching.) The other med I've taken is Zofran. It's prescribed for people undergoing chemo. Not available in generic yet, so it's expensive. Here are some other tried and true methods I've used:
Peppermint or Spearmint Tea: Works really well. Sip it slowly, and hot.
Undereating: Nothing makes me sicker than overreating. I can't even eat a full meal because I know I"ll get nauseous. Try eating very small portions every 2-3 hours. And stick to bland foods. White rice, bananas, apple sauce, toast, a baked potato with a little butter on it. Don't, whatever you do, eat to fullness.
Ginger: Most ginger ale doesn't contain real ginger so I make a ginger tea and it works wonders for an upset stomach. Peel and grate some raw ginger and put a heaping tablespoon of it in a cup. Pour boiling water over it. The ginger will rise to the top. Let it steep until the ginger sinks to the bottom. Then strain it and drink it slowly.
Heating pad on the tummy: I have a heating pad always plugged in..in my bedroom, office, and the living room. A hot bath also can help a nauseous stomach.
I grew up in a rural town and worked at the local pharmacy through high school. The pharmacist was an old timer who always had a big bottle of Coca-cola syrup in the back. If someone came in complaining of nausea, he would dispense 8 ounces of the syrup in a bottle for them. You might try it drinking regular cola, but don't do the diet stuff. It can make your stomach hurt even more.
There is a pressure point on your wrist that controls nausea. A friend of mine had breast cancer and she swore by it to help with the nausea from chemo. Take your first 3 fingers (pointer, middle, ring finger) and place them at the base of your hand, right where your wrist starts. Where ever your pointer finger lands (about 3 inches below your hand) is your pressure point. Put your thumb there and apply pressure for up to 5 minutes. There's a name for this point in accupressure, but I can't remember the name of it.
Finally, if you end up with nausea that is stubborn and won't go away, you might consider acupuncture. I did, and it really worked.
Hope I helped. Let me know how you are doing...I'm probably forgetting some other tips...

Robin

Yes, I have definitely had nausea as a part of peri! When I originally got it - 3 years ago, it lasted for almost a year - it was ROUGH! Then, it went away for the most part, only to return from time to time. I have/had no clue as to how it relates to my cycle as my periods are so erratic at this point. The nausea has now returned the last month - and it's no fun, as you know! I echo what has been said here- ginger and peppermint help. Sucking/chewing on ice helps me too. I use a hot water bottle at night - always helps, but it's a bit of a pain as I also have hot flashes/night sweats ... so what a combo! I have to laugh - I'm self inducing night sweats to quell the nausea! :-) Acupuncture has helped me at times too.
It will pass - just hang on. I'm thinkig of you! kathleent

Robin and kathleen,
Thanks so much- it means so much that people who have been through this would take time to help someone they don't know.
I have really given in to it the last 2 days- maybe some depression is starting because of feeling so awful? I got up and dressed but then literally laid on the couch for 2 days- not like me at all. I am disgusted with myslef, but it's like everything wears me out. Ughhhhh.
I have church today, so i am going to try to get out of the house a little and see if my outlook improves. Maybe I'll run to the store for the peppermint tea and ginger and give those a try.
Thanks so much for comisserating with me, I don't know how you do it EVERY day, Robin. I'm such a baby and it's only been a few weeks.
Thanks again, girls!

Once in a while I feel a little nausea but I think mine is caused by my acid reflux disease. While I used to s*ck on peppermints, they do make my heartburn worse. You can buy something over the counter called Emetrol for nausea. Some people swear by it. I however, am a lover of ginger! If you have a health food store in your town see if they sell Gin-Gins. They are ginger candy and I think they taste great. I always have some on me especially on car rides. You can google them as they have a website. I also love to have Reed's Ginger Ale on hand. They sell it at health food stores too. It is real ginger ale and tastes great!
Hope your tummy gets better soon--prays & hugs your way!

I will echo the prev posts that ginger is the best thing for nausea, I even have success with Ginger Ale, both the "commercial" brands as well as more natural ginger ales (like brands found at whole foods, etc) its always worked for me

I have been suffering from nausea and even periodic vomiting this last year. I have discovered that Peppermint tea or Perier water really settle the tummy. The Perier tastes nasty so mix it with some decaf ice tea mix or something. I like the peppermint tea iced during the summer, very refreshing.
