One week before my 27th birthday my doctor told me I am in Full menopause. I am glad to know what is wrong with me and that I am not going crazy. However women my age are having babies not going through menopause. I am just wondering are there others out there like me. Has anyone eles gone through this? Am I alone? I had a partial hystorectomy, but my doctor feels that I would have gone through this either way. I don't know what to think. I only found out three weeks ago. Well I am just hoping to find others going through what I am, and at my age or at least close.

I started my symptoms at 30.Stress and a family history are the suspects.I am taking yasmin to help my horrible symptoms, and thank GOD they are working.I still have periods, but don't know if it is because of the yasmin or if my body is still trying?!I hope you find peace.GOD bless.

hi pink lady, welcome to ps...i'm glad you found us. there are many here who start meno earlier than our moms and grandmothers. many think its due to life stressors and environmental factors, and also the foods we are eating. you will get all the info you need here, and support as well. you are not crazy, you just may need some help with hormones. big hugs, kelly

I was 34 when I start perimenopause - a bit older than you at the time, but not too far. (Much older now - 52 I'm afraid.) You said you had a partial hysterectomy - did they leave your ovaries? Sometimes they stop working after a hysterectomy. The blood flow to the ovaries change and sometimes they can't take that. Even a tubal ligation may affect them too! Have you looked at the group on hysterectomies? That might help you and you are pretty close to the 30's group below - most of them have the same issues you have. I had my babies very early (at ages 23 and 24) so that wasn't an issue. In fact, though they can't prove it, my tubal ligation at 24 may have been the reason I went into menopause so early. I've heard of alot of women who did within 10 years of that happening.

I am glad to know that I am not alone. Being 27, I always get the same reation. I felt like I was the youngest women alive going through this. I now know I am one of many who go through this before what is thought to be our time. In a crazy way it just helps to know I am not alone. Thank you for letting me know. I am glad to hear that you have found some releif. I hope that I do soon.

Hope to hear from you again.

Hi PinkLady. My doctor suspects this for me too. I started having symptoms at 25. I'm 29 now. I'm getting bloodwork done on Friday, and will know for sure in about a week or so. Good luck to you.

Hi pinklady27. I too am going through a really early menopause only i started it when i was 18. I wasnt diagnosed until this year and i am now 20. I was in complete denial for a long time and glad now that i have something rational to blame all of the menopause symptoms on.

I am not really sure what brought it on. I was on birth control for two years, and when i stopped taking it i started menopause. It was really shocking. I have yet to start treatment and i am not really sure about how i am giong to go about it.

HRT just seems a little scary to me to be taking it for so long.

It is just really unfortunate to start it this young. No kids, no girly things to share. It kinda makes me feel serperated from women my age. Do you feel that way at all?

Jen,

I'm a former GYN nurse and it is EXTREMELY rare for a young woman your age to truly be going through the change of life! I don't say that to scare you, but you truly DO need another opinion and if I were you I'd seek out an endocrinologist or infertility specialist before you let anyone declare you having gone through menopause. If you just had one or two hormone tests done, that really tells you only that you had a certain level of estrogen/progesterone at THAT time, not what it is like all month long and at different times of the day. It is not abnormal for a young woman who has been taking BCP's for a couple of years to "stall out" in your cycles for a period of time, sometimes even needing a little "jump start" to get your ovaries to ovulate once again. Just not cycling can certainly give you some of the same "symptoms" as peri-menopause, but doesn't necessarily mean that you would never start cycling again. There are many things that can be done, especially if you desire to have children. Of course, there are some who cannot and it is one of the hardest things for many to accept. I truly have compassion for those...but again, there are many options for raising children other than natural childbirth. (still, it doesn't take away the sting, so I'm not downplaying that at all!)

Perhaps you have had extensive testing with ovarian biopsies, and you do truly have a hormonal imbalance which would keep you from cycling, yet at 20 yrs. old and to be diagnosed with being through menopause??? I worked in the field for 13 years, even working for an infertility specialist and never once did I see this.

Don't loose hope...seek another opinion!

we tried to jumpstart it to no avail. it was like a little put put pffh ------ nothing.

But i am going to get a second opinion, my last gyno was not very considerate. i guess she just didnt seem concerned enough about it to just hand my case over without further testing.

but we tested my thyroid.. the fsh levels were high. or something like that ....whatever the pituitary gland produces in the absense of estrogen.

thanks for your hopeful comment. i just hope these symptoms subside sometime soon.
teaformaggie
p.s. my thyroid was fine.
