hi ladies,
I was wondering if any of you are suffering with dry burning eyes? I have had this problem sense January about the same time I started with hot flashes and other peri symptoms..It is like I can not moisturize them enough.
Does anyone know of a remedy or vitamin for this that would help..and is it peri related..
Thanks girls,
Pamela

I use Refresh eye drops for my burning dry eyes. I use it in the morning and at night. It really helps my eyes. If you wear eye makeup try to use hypoallergenic makeup as some makeup can also irritate the eyes.

I was going to post on this same symptom. For the last couple of weeks I've been having such dry eyes that are only relieved by rinsing. Is this another peri symptom? Thanks for the remedy suggestion

Yes, I do believe dry burning eyes are another peri symptom. I have been dealing with this for a couple of years. It started out with my left eye tearing a bit. I remember hearing or reading somewhere that Suzanne Summers also had this tearing in her eye. My eye doctor did'nt find anything wrong. Then the dry burning eyes started. I also noticed I get alot of oil on my eyelids by the end of the day. So I just bring extra tissues to work and keep blotting my eyelids and inner canthus of my eyes. This helps also with the burning.

My dry eye syndrome (DES, dry, burning eyes) started about the same time that my periods began to become irregular, about 1 1/2 years ago now. There are many causes and treatments for DES. I would suggest you see your eye care professional for a DES evaluation. I find that the non-preserved TheraTears work the best for me during the day, and GenTeal gel at night. PM me if you want a referral to a great online support group for DES.

I had such dry eyes and dry mouth that the doctor thought that I had Sjogrene's Syndrome, testing confirmed that I didn't. My gyno said that hormones do play a role in these symptoms. I was also under huge amounts of stress. Things got a bit easier this year and my dry eyes and mouth got better. I did use the Refresh tears and they relieved my eyes.

Hi Thinkpink, I have to tell you that I have had the same symptoms with dry eyes. I have been going off estrogen for the past six months, but I have found when I put the Estraderm patch on it magically heals my eyes. I think that I will gradually go back on the HRT because without quality of life where are we?? I have been using eyedrops, et al, but I think the body, the female body, craves estrogen and that's what makes it better. I hope that this helps you. Love, Lillyfields

Our natural tears contain soothing oils and nutrients that gently nourish and hydrate the eye. As we grow older, we lose these natural-oil-tears and our eyes become dry and easily irritated. If you decide to use eyedrops, please make sure you nchoose hypo-tears or any natural eye drop that does NOT contain a preservative. (Be very careful with Visine; the purpose of their most widely used drop is to constrict the blood vessels - thus getting "the red out." I understand there is now a drop by Visine that has no preservatives, but I personally prefer hypo-tears.)
Take a soft washcloth and soak it in very warm, clear water and place it on your eyes for fifteen minutes twice a day. This will help tremendously.
My career is all about dealing with low vision and eye diseases and various eye conditions and this problem is very common; especially as we mature.
I hope this is helpful.
Much love, Belinda

I was dealing with dry eyes until I switched to a vitamin that contains lutein. I'm not sure if it's the lutein or just the combination of vits. and minerals that are helping. Just my two cents

I had a similar problem a few years ago and it lasted a few years, then suddenly stopped. Its now trying to make a comeback, but so far has been very mild. I used drops, and eventually found it to be hormone related. My system has been spazzing the last 6 months or so, and my hormones are just having a free for all.
Also, when this had first started, I didn't realize what was happening, ended up tearing the retina and got a herpes virus of the eye. Fun...NOT. Have been super careful ever since.

Lack of estrogen i'm told. i use Prefrin cos it works for me and also takes away the redness. It comes and goes. I guess it's worse when my estrogen levels are looking to be topped up....good indicator maybe.
