When I called my doctor to get a renewal on Prempro, which I've been taking for 2 years, I got no renewal. (this is done by leaving a voice mail, then they call the prescription in).   I have an appt. with him in about 2 months but I'm wondering is it OK to just drop something like this?

Also, I'm not sure what happens if I'm not taking any HRT -- I do exercise (15 miles walk/run per week, plus weights 2x and a yoga 4x week) but is my already plump stomach going to get even rounder, my bones frailer, my wrinkles even deeper, my thinning hair thinner?  Is there a board for post-menopausal women?

I think your doctor is acting irresponsibly to just cut off your HRT cold turkey without giving you a plan for tapering off.  Someone should have talked to you about this before taking this course of cation. Call him and tell him that this approach at patient care is unacceptible. If he can't do better than this, find a new doctor.

Yes, Dale, there's a board for post-meno women.  You can find it by clicking here: Postmenopause.

Also, it's recommended to taper off HRT slowly so that your symptoms don't come back.  There has been quite a bit of discussion on this particular board about various people's experience with tapering off - including my own.

I tapered off a little over 4 years ago now and I'm doing just fine.  I started using Revival (soy) at the same time I started my taper and still continue to.

Cindy is right - your doctor shouldn't have just stopped the prescription without any further instructions.

My doctor also stopped my prempro cold turkey. He said that it would be o.k. to do it that way. So I've been off of it 1 month and I'm starting hot flashes and all of the other symptoms. I had been taking prempro 10 years. What can I get otc that will help? Thanks

gfws36, Check out all the wonderful information Dearest has provided for us on the Power Surge Recommendations Page.  It's a very comprehensive listing of all kinds of solutions to symptoms that meno women may have.

I also see that you're new here, so as you read these boards, you'll find out about things that have helped other women - for example, I've used Revival soy (Click here for that board) for the last 4 plus years.  There's an area for progesterone creams - pros and cons, and one for Alternative Med / Vitamins / Herbs.

It's important to read everything you can to make an informed decision about what's best for you.

Best of luck to you and welcome to Power Surge smile.gif

God bless this place! I hope someone can help/advise/commiserate... I am 48 yrs. old.  Have been on HRT for 5 yrs for night sweats. My dear old OB/GYN retired in August and I was referred to another doctor whose receptionist recommended that I drop my Premphase immediately because "that's what they're recommending for all our patients" even tho I hadn't been seen yet. I did NOT stop the HRT but waited to talk to the doc at my appointment. He recommended that I taper off, which I started doing that evening (Sept. 3) I am now down to the last of the blue pills (medroxyprogesterone), about 8 left, which I have been taking every other day. I started my period the night of the 3rd..went on for 5 days and stopped. I started moderate to light bleeding again three days later and have been ever since. Also experiencing cramping, back, leg and joint pain. In short, I feel like a bus ran over me...am also tired, can't concentrate. The doctor recommended 50 mg B6 in addition to my other vitamins. Is what I am experiencing normal? I am waiting for the doc to call back since last Friday (this is Monday). I needed to talk to somebody.  Why don't they tell you about the withdrawal symptoms when they put out the information about the hazards of HRT in July? I would appreciate anything anyone can tell me.
