Hey ladies,
For about a year I get these round very dry spots that show in random places, usally arms and legs...They start out like dry little dots then get more profound and round. They are about the size of a pea or small grape. They flake and get really pink .They do not hurt or itch. They last a couple of weeks and go way. The doc says it is just dry skin but Iknow I have dry skin and never had this happen till I got in perimenopause.
With all the symptoms of peri I wondered if this was one and it is just a sign of the change.
Would love feed back

Pamela

Thinkpink,
It could be related to declining hormones, the glands in the skin that produse oils slow down and cause some dryness. Try somd MILD exfoliation at the end of your show , when your skin is damp..and moisturize right after you towel off...pay special attention to the dryer spots. If this doesn't help, you might think about cutting down on dairy products..this sounds a little like maybe mild exczema, and that is usually some sort of food sensitivity. More often than not, dairy products are the culprit. If you use a moisturizer with oils, I suggest staying away from mineral and lanolin and such...stay with things like natural oils, easily found at a health food store. Hope this helps!! = )

Pamela,
One of my first symptoms of peri (I think) that I only realize now was I had a big, discolored patch of skin near my ankle that was there for months, it too was very, very dry and at the time I didn't have dry skin anywhere else. Now, I do have drier skin, especially my cuticles. Anyway, the dry, flaky patch near my ankle is no longer there.
I am almost sure what you are experiencing is due to hormones and will get better. Did the doctor give one any special cream? For me, I was just using Nivea body cream. Hope it gets better soon.

HEHE!! I have that every day ..moments of utter confusion! I try to help out when i can on the skin related issues because I'm an Esthetician. Been in the skin care business for a while now. Sometimes the most simple approach is best, and the daily skin care thing is so easy to do...and you're right about the allergy stuff, but it usually will be a little itchy if it's allergy based..not always though!! Hormones cause more changes in the skin than we realize. The dairy thing is just a guess and worth a try if the exfoliation and moisturizing doesn't do it... Ruth

hmm.. i had wondered if my skin 'thing' could be related to meno, or to a food sensitivity. i have too much skin affected now to want to use the extra potent corticosteriod cream and ointment i have been prescribed. the stuff is absorbed into the blood stream, not all, but some, and i would have to use handfuls of the stuff to cover all the skin affected now. i have found something called 'Bio Oil' - i don't know how available this is around the world - but it really does seem to be helping the dry patches i have.

Hi Ruth,
well I am glad to hear that it is most likely hormones ... I was freaked out it could be pre-cancerous.I usually only have one spot at a time.I worry about to much stuff these days.
Not to sound stupid ..what is a Esthetician? I am assuming it is skin related.
Thanks ,Pamela

It sounds very much like eczema to me. I get these too and the hydrocortisone will take them away eventually. Stress also makes them worse, I've never heard about the dairy link. Interesting...

I also have a very dry patch on my forearm and I have had it for about 3 years. It looks grey when it is dry but when I get out of the shower it looks red. It flakes and itches. Sometimes I scratch it so hard it bleeds. Seems to me it started when my peri symptoms started getting bad but then again who knows it could be some sort of allergy. I had it on my eyelids for a while but it went away. People have asked me what the heck it is in the summer when they can see it. They think I have poison ivy and I have some sort of calamine on it. I hate it but I'm not gonna wear long sleeved shirts in the summer. I get hot enough and I'm sure you all know what I mean.
