hi ladies,

last night, about 15 minutes after eating spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, I got this swollen gland on the right side, under the jaw. It was weird how it just suddenly happened, it puffed up a LITTLE, not much really, but inside, it felt sore...just like swollen glands. Then I noticed that the upper gums on the same side, the RIGHT side, felt sort of "aggravated" or "itchy", I can't describe it, and up above the gums, where it goes up into your cheek, it felt SLIGHTLY puffy too, but no pain, just that "itchy" sensitive feeling in the gums. Now, that stayed with me all night, for a while there, it got better, then I went to bed. When I woke up this morning, I felt "weird", not really sick, just "weird". The lymph gland was still aching and a LITTLE swollen, and the gums have been bothering me on and off all day and still do. No pain, just that "itchy" sensitive feeling. I don't have a fever, and I do have an appetite, but then again, I haven't felt to good all day though. I don't feel nauseas. I always thought that when you had swollen glands it would be more directly under the jaw line, which this is, yet it also seems to sort of extend DOWNWARD, along side say, the thyroid, (that soreness and tenderness) I have tried to feel for any nodules, and I really can't feel any, it also hurts to much to feel very deeply. I called my dr.'s office this afternoon and described this to the nurse, and she said it sounds to her like either an infected tooth (on the top), that is affecting the lymph nodes (on the same side), or an allergic reaction to the spaghetti and meatball dinner. Well, I've had spaghetti and meatballs pleny of times, that has never happened.....but, she asked me if I was due for my period, and I said I was due any day now, which seemed to make some difference to her, as if hormones could bring this on.

ok, if anyone here has any info. or has had any similar symptoms, please post and let me know.....thanks everyone!

Sincerely, MyDarling

Hi sweetie this happened to me a month ago but, I was drinking a milk shake and when I s*cked on the straw I it hurt right under the jaw line and then I felt like a Knot. Well me being all peripause I freaked out, My sister told me it was proably due to a bad ear and sinus infection.
Well I went to the doctor sure enough chronic sinus infection, ear infection and fluid behind both ear-drums. I have had many many sinus and ear infections but never had the lymph node gland to swell with it.
You may have the same thing, have you been to the doctor to have your ears checked???
Just a thought, hope you start feeling better.

hi sdblue ...

thank you for replying! I hope some other ladies chime in here. Ok, I can't even get an appt. to see dr. for a week! (geez, you could be dead by then!..lol) and watch this, by then, it'll be gone!

I called the office yest. to set up an appt. and told the nurse about this, she seemed very unaffected by what I was telling her, which was good since it told me she wasn't worried about it, but suggested that it could be a few things....maybe an infection in my gums (or anywhere in the body for that matter), or a virus, but like i stated, i don't think i have a virus, i feel sort of "normal" with no fever, or a food allergy. Now, when you had this problem, you didn't know you had a sinus infection? there was no sinus pain or pressure, or sinus headache????? I didn't have any real sinus issues on the RIGHT side, I did notice however, that right before this started with the gland, I also felt a pressure in my RIGHT TEMPLE, which subsided...then it kind of went to the gums, on the right top side, sort of an "itchy" feeling (like I said before), and then, finally, to the glands, all within say, 45 minutes.

this whole thing is weird. That was Tuesday night, and I still have this today. I've been told so far, it's probably an allergic reaction to something I ate there, or even hormones, which I highly suspect, my period is due any day now. I dn't know....this
stinks! You don't really see much of a "puff" there, very small. But I can FEEL it on the inside. Sometimes it hurts by itself, without touchng it. Someone here told me that they also had this during peri, on and off, and would last a few days, and felt
sore. so, that very well might be it....I mean, at this point, I've had such crazy, wild scary symptoms, I don't put anything past
this hormonal thing!!!!

thank you very much!!!!

Last month I had a swollen lymph node behind my ear, which turned out to be an ear infection (which was weird -- never had one manifest THAT way before). Doctor gave me a five-day course of antibiotics, and the node was shrunk back to normal two days into taking the prescription. I was not feeling sick at all -- no temperature, and not even any "weird" feelings, just the swollen node.

I have had swelling in my gums before, a couple of years ago, and that ended up being an infected tooth needing a root canal. I had noticed the swelling in my gum, but didn't really pay attention to it, but when I went in for my regular appointment (some weeks later lol), the dentist noticed it and got me right in for the root canal, put me on antibiotics, etc.

So, your problem could be either a minor infection of some kind, or just a hormonal thing. You have your doctor appt coming up, and as long as you're feeling ok and not running a temp, I wouldn't worry about it. I suppose you could talk to the nurse at your doctor's office to see if they can put you on an antibiotic just in case you have an infection.

Hi witsend,

yes, I've already spoken to the nurse t oday about that very thing, she said, that since I still have a round of zithromax, i can go ahead and take them, it shouldn't do any harm anyway, and that way, if it IS any kind of infection, it'll nip it in the bud. However, today, it's better, it has definatley shrunk, and it's nearly as painfull, I did sleep a LOT yesterday, i got lots of rest and fluids, and that seemed to have REALLY helped. Thank you for the info. though, and in the end, you might very well be right, it very well could be some kind of infection somewhere.....

sincerely, mydarling

hi all,

this is a bit of an update on the gland thingy, and the fact that even though I took that round of penicillan, it seemed to have kind of come back. Now, when I first took the penicillan, it knocked it out, and it was gone for a few days or so. Then, a few days ago, it tried to make a comeback, not as bad but you can feel it in the "background" so to speak. Every now and then if I turn my head to the right and look down, I can sort of feel this "full" feeling under my right chin, and a little bit of "tenderness" in there, but that 's all. So, now, he's suggesting maybe a gum infection, and yet, I don't really feel any pain in my mouth, although my gums on that same side (on the top) were a little sore and puffy for a few days, but are now back to normal. I read on another medical site, that hormones definatley affect our gums and GLANDS! ... so I kind of wonder if that isn't this. A friend of mine said she had the same thing, that it would come and go, she's had it for years. even my sister, has this. So, if anyone has something like this, where it seems to come and go, please post here ..... I do appreciate everyone that's already responded to me, it has helped me to knw I'm not alone with this .... but I need to know if this REOCCURS with anyone else ...

thanks girls! mydarling

My darling

Just wanted to tell you not to worry. I have been told several times by the doc that a gland can stay up for a month quite normally and yes they do go up & down. There are plenty under the chin. You are probably fighting some sort of virus somewhere or infection that doesn't repond to the antibiotics that you took.smile.gif

hi squiggle!

thank you, the funny thing is that my dr. just said to me the exact same thing today on the phone..lol .. yes, he feels it's either hormonal, (wow, i couldnt believe he even admitted to that!) .... or some sort of minor infection somewhere in my body .. he also said, amazingly so...that during peri, your body can mimic infection like symptoms! so, is that right? i mean, i've never heard of that, has anyone else?

thanks again ladies!

Been there done that. At 37 (a little over 3 years ago), I started with a sore spot next to my thyroid only one one side. It progressed up my neck, under my jaw and to my ear. I went to the doctor twice and had two different rounds of antibiotics. Neither worked and I had the doctors baffled so I went to my dentist. I had a pano x-ray (one that takes the jaw and teeth) and she saw absolutely nothing. The only thing we could come up with was since I am a night teeth grinder and teeth clencher that it was just stressing out the muscles, tendons & glands in that side of my neck. I have TMJ on that side. Anyway, she recommended I wear my night guard during the day to remind myself not to clench my teeth. In the long run, I just had to wait it out and it finally went away. I did find that moist heat applied helped a tremendous amount.

I don't think I will ever figure my body out.
