Has anyone heard about the new over the counter weight loss pill called Alli? It is to be released next week. It has been around for awhile but by doctors Rx only. I believe it is called Xenical, and this over the counter form of the pill will be 1/2 the strength of the Rx pill. I can't take other diet pills, they really bring on the palps, but this one is not supposed to do that or make you jittery. You have to eat low fat or you can get diarrhea. I was wondering if anyone has tried the Xenical and how it worked. Thanks, Connie

I've taken xenical, and let's say...uhmmm unsure.gif ... if you have gas of any type, you'll need to use the bathroom or your undies may get soiled with orangy goo. There I said it! I'm dead serious about the orangy goo. The medicine is designed to remove/block fat so the larger amount of fat you consume, the more goo comes out unexpectedly. It worked for me though. I may try it the OTC one next week. Well, maybe... laugh.gif

Hi, I am new to the boards but saw this and wanted to post.

I just purchased the Alli today and used 1 with supper. I would love to keep up this post and see who uses it and what results they get.

Maybe if you ladies to decide to try this medication, switch over to eating whole foods such as foods from the earth and cut out the fat. Within the last year, I've lost almost 30 pounds after 2nd spine surgery by eating foods like sweet potatoes, red potatoes, lots of avocados, broccoli, radishes, and anything green, celery with peanut butter, etc.,

When I do eat meat, it was either chicken, seafood, or pork chops. I tried to stay away from fatty or fried food. Even now, when I do eat something fried, it gives me diarrhea.

I do eat a good breakfast, eggs, scrapple (anyone know what that is?), and rye toast. I cannot go without breakfast. If I'm running late, I'll eat a granola bar but that is rare.

What scares me about the diet medications is that they did give me heart palps. I have a heart murmur to begin with. I do take sublingual B-12 and that helps with the energy. At night time, my stomach area turns into a furnace so I know my metobalism is high once again.

Now I am back to my normal weight Ive been all my life (except for the 4 years when I could not lose that extra 30+ pounds no matter what I did).

If you gals try it, I hope it works for you. Good luck.

Take care,
-Tina

I'm glad someone started thread. I'd like to try Alli too, but I suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, and the thought of something that makes me have even MORE digestive problems....I just don't know. Orangey-goo? The packet insert says stuff about oily spots and anal leakage...ugh! I'm scared!

I saw them talking about it on one of the morning shows the other day. He mentioned that a lot of people who took it said you would be wise to take an extra pair of undies and pants with you during the day because you never know when you might have the leakage. I don't think that's anything I would want to deal with. ohmy.gif

They said you are best to cut out all fat because it just goes right through you as that is what the drug is designed to do, not absorb fat. If you eat any at all, it just comes out eventually and sometimes not when you want it to! Yuk!

I was reading all of the information that comes with it last night and I wonder if it will help.

I don't eat fatty foods like ice cream and whatnot. I haven't eaten fried foods since I was a teen and very limited at that.

I always weighed 110 or less until 6 years ago and my doc put me on antidepressants. Just last year after a year off of those nasty things found out I should have been on thyroid meds. I am hypothyroid. I also now weigh 140.4 as of this a.m. and am 5'2". Turning 40 in two weeks.

Just as an fyi for a starting gate:

I eat 1400-1900 cals per day on average (I have kept a food journal for the last 5 years)

I get on my treadmill every evening. I walk/run 2-4 miles. I make sure that I get over 11,000 steps daily. I was doing only 10,000 but recently upped it. I also recently upped my treadmill incline to 8.

As far as oily stool. UGH!!!! Who wants it. I will just have to make sure I eat nothing with fat. I am so paranoid about that nasty thing happening smile.gif

Is anybody else going to start this journey????

Anal leakage. Oily stools...this is the best the FDA can come up with? Sorry, no thanks. I"m passing on this one.

I started on Thursday last week and have done great so far. I sticking to about 1600 calories a day and 15 fat grams per meal. I have had no side effects, normal morning bowel movements. I really feel fine. I get hungry at times, but that feeling passes after having something to drink. (Low-cal) Alli has set up a great wbsite with a message board you can learn alot from. Many women are taking a fiber capsule in the am to help combat the loose stools. I am excited about Alli. I realize you can lose weight with decreasing calories and fat grams without taking Alli, but the pill keeps me honest. I know once I take that pill I have to be good or I will pay for it if you know what I mean!
I would love to start a group here at power-surge to support each other and exchange ideas about what is working for each of us or maybe problems we are having along the way. I have problems with lots of heart palps like another lady mentioned, but I like Alli because it doesn't have any systemic effect. It only works in your intestine blocking 25% of the fat you eat. Nothing in it to make your nervous system work overtime. Good luck to others taking it, check back so we can compare our progress. Connie
