Hi I am new to the forum, I posted in the welcome section. I am going on 42 (next month) and have been having symptoms for the last 4 years. The last year has been the worst. My mom was 45 when her period completely stopped. Mine has changed flows, and comes earlier every month. The anxiety startss from the time I ovulate, I start to ovulate now 10 days after my period, it use to be 14. The week before is unbearable. Here are my symptoms, mood swings, rage, extreme fatigue, leg aches, headaches, palps, internal shakes, just want to cry, night sweats, cold sweats, gee the list goes on. I have 6 children, three are in college and 3 at home. 7,6 and 4 and I homeschool. My husband reelinsted into the service and has been gone since Feb and wont be home until July. I am living in a state with no family and I know no one. Once he gets his orders we will be leaving. I have been under extreme stress through this time. Well yesterday I got my period and I am usually shot the first day. Last night I tried to go to sleep and the "wave" started. It's like I try to lay still and I feel this wave start at my toes and climb all the way to my chest and I HAVE to get up. Walking around I don't feel it but as soon as I try again it starts. Needless to say I didn't sleep much. I had this happen in the past and went to the ER and all these tests and they told me anxiety, to much adrenaline. I take xanax before bed, 1/2 of .25 and it usually helps. Does anyone know what I'm talking about with the wave? It also feels like trembling.

Thanks,
DonnaMarie

Hi Donna, Welcome to Power-Surge!! I am many years post meno(8) but I used to get the "waves" all the time during peri and now that I am post, I still get them, but not as much. I started getting them at 45 and I didn't become meno and post meno until I was 54 and 55 respectively. I totally know what you are writing about. Usually, we follow what the pattern was for our mum. My mom didn't go into meno until late and the same with me. It seems that your mum was early (45) and that is what is happening for you. Stress can exacerbate the symptoms you describe and with your husband re-enlisting, you home schooling your children; this has added (bigtime)to your stress. The Xanax always helped me and I took it until about two years ago.

Mom, perhaps you could try the whole .25 mg of Xanax for a few days to see if it helps even more than the 1/2 pill. You may need just a little boost to get a few good nights sleep. I would not normally recommend medication, but it sounds like you have a lot going on in your live and could use a little extra help right now. As for the rest; since you do have so much to contend with right now, the only thing that would help the anxiety would be if you could calm down, but that sounds like it would be very difficult.

Try to hang in there. So many of us have gone through similar situations and if there was a miracle cure we would need this great web site. Please use Power Surge when you need a little advice, words or wisdom, or just need to vent. We will be here.

Hi Mom*6k:

Good grief! Talk about stress! I hope things settle down for you, and fast.

I had a wave thing, too, and it had the capacity to happen daytime more than night. I'm using Anti-depressants, but they didn't 'fix' the wave thing. That issue stopped when I started using hormones at a satisfactory level. It's seriously reduced flushing, sweating, and I feel more stable - I don't have to watch and weigh every word I utter.

I hope you'll find the help and support you need here. I'd have been utterly lost without it when this hit me, a year ago. PS Theres loads of info amassed by the hostest, and made available by link.

Hi Mom! I know exactly what you mean by the "wave' happening when you go to bed. I had really bad tremors for awhile, day and night. Now just over 2 years later I still have tremors during the day not anything like I had in the beginning. BUT still have the waves at night. They wake me up and it feels like the tremors shimmy up and down your body......sometimes just the backs of my legs other times from my calves to my head. I find they seem to be worse when I sleep on my stomach, as soon as I turn on my back they seem to stop.........how do you figure that!! I haven't had a period for 10mths now so who knows how long this goes for dry.gif

When you move see if you can find a doctor or naturopath to help you. Take magnesium and calcium it's supposed to help. Read what other women have written and you find you are not alone.

Cheers choco
