I had a surgical menopause on my 27th birthday (what a gift..aghhh) and have been on estrogen since I awoke from the mighty anisthetic. I'm now 41 years old and my hot flashes are only increasing. I generally avoid going outside in the summer and dress in summer wear in the winter. The crappy doctor just says....there's nothing we can do other than keep you on the estrogen.

Is there a prescription I can take to stop my face looking like a red beacon? I've tried absolutely EVERYTHING and NOTHING works. I'm very worried about these flashes getting even more disruptive. They are now impacting my sleep and memory.

HELP PLEASE!!! blink.gif

Hello. Welcome to Power Surge.

This is what helps me. Estrogen. buckets of it.

When it lets me down, I take vitamin C w/grapefruit juice. It increases the bio availability of what ever estrogen is in your system, but sometimes its enough.

Aspirin. I was told it inacts nicely with steriods (estrogen) but I took it with the notion that it would facillitate blood flow by dialating the arteries and thinning the blood, so hopefully rosacea wouldn't ensue.

Shower. Doesn't have to be cold or even cool, tepid to comfortable will do. Reduces my body temp and can stamp out the flushing for a while- which can be 30 minutes (boo!) to 6 or 8 hours (yeah!) If the shower doesn't work, take a damp towel, ring it out, and throw it in the freezer. When its cold, wear it like a cravat. Keep a few in the freezer at a time.

Try one of those spray bottles with ice in the water. spray it on as needed.

Tetracycline. I take it when I know I'm going to have a session (Mine last for flipping days on end). It's probably too much but, I have had enough. Again the theory is to prevent damage rather than repair.

27. I'm sorry. That's a long time to go through this grief.

Have they tried adjusting your dose? Have you tried different types? Sometimes the oral pills stop working. Some have better success with those you take sub-lingual. The various patches work for some. I have one friend that has to have injections because the oral won't work for her! Some are helped by progesterone added to the estrogen (natural preferred). Some can't take any type of progesterone. Lots of options to explore!!!

I cannot help - wish I could - but I had a total hysterectomy 6years ago at age 46. Since then, my life has been a journey of constant trial and error. Have never had a good day - started off with patches, then tablets and now I am on bio-identical hormones (triest and progesterone) and am at my wits end. I think the secret is to find a doctor who specialises in bio-identicals, have a genuine interest in their patients and you have to be VERY, VERY patient, not to mention the expense. I guess there is also the chance that some people do not respond very well to any of these hormones. When I mentioned that I get a racing heart, especially in the mornings after taking the troches, he said: maybe you're allergic to them!!. That was it - nothing else - so what is the solution????? I sympathise with you - and I would suggest requesting some progesterone with the estrogen. One's ovaries DON"T just produce estrogen!!! GOOD LUÇ!!
