Am I the only one up this late? I can't even lay down cause my heart is just all over the place. Then I get nervous and the anxiety kicks in. I almost feel like maybe I need a trip to the ER. Maybe it is the Coke or chocolate I had today. Then again maybe it was the chocolate ice cream I had about 9:00p.m. I have never had heart palps this bad. Everytime I relax they kick up a notch. I have been fine for quite a few months but for some reason it is starting all over again.

Anyone else have this problem?

Stephanie,
Wow......chocolate ice cream at 9 pm.....added to the residual coke and chocolate of the day!
I would certainly say.....thats a huge cause for palps. I would take a calcium/mag. tab and
try and relax. I also wouldn't be able to go to sleep till dawn, having chocolate and the
sugar at this time of night! Now, just continue to read all the caring ladies remarks on
Power Surge and be comforted. Its ok.....you are gonna live! If you feel like you need
to go to the ER.....head on over there.....have someone drive you, but my bet is on all
the sugar and chocolate! rolleyes.gif

Chocolate at 9 pm would definately set me off! I've been taking magnesium and not eating or drinking wine after 7pm and have been better-palps are very scary and I sure understand why you feel concerned but just like everything else we're dealing with-we find whatever we can do to work around it! Try cutting out the caffeine after around 2pm-Good luck

Hi scase

I used to work with someone who said she was felt 'wired' you know really edgy once after she had been drinking coke because she normally didn't drink it. I stopped drinking coffee everyday many years ago and started drinking decaff tea about 12 months ago. The other weekend hubby and I were out and stopped at a coffee shop and I thought mm those cups of cappucino look so good I'll have one. Well not long afterwards I felt really edgy and that's just a cappucino. It's like our body's tolerance of certain foods changes.

I remember once having an awful cold, you know, blocked nose, couldn't breathe, head felt as though it was bursting. So I took a decongestant cold remedy from the chemists before I went to bed. I could not sleep, I was tossing and turning, my legs couldn't keep still, it was just like well I don't know some kind of can't keep still thing. So, I steer well clear of anything like that now.

I hope you can get some relief. Try cutting out certain foods for a while and see if it helps.
If you feel you need to go to the ER or docs then I would do that too.

Stephanie, I agree with what everyone else has said - sugar & caffeine are big triggers for me - in fact the day i started getting these dratted palps, I was in Italy eating icecreams galore! Also though, I had a bout much as you describe a couple of months back. My palps were skipping every other beat and pounding away every time I lay down. It passed after about 2 weeks but they were one of the worst 2 weeks in my life! I really sympathise with you. 2 months later, i have had hardly any for 2 weeks - it seems to be the way it goes. I did start having acupuncture straight after that bad bout and it may have helped. smile.gif IT WILL PASS!

I am sitting here this morning with palps galore. They started about 2 am and are still going strong. I had a good month, now they are back again in full force. I always have some, but lately they are really bad. I have ate what you did before and not had any problems. Then I have ate like a good girl, and the palps were awful. In my case what I eat or don't eat doesn't make any difference from what I can tell. It has to be changing hormones. I have started skipping periods so I think that has something to do with the palps too. Lots of other symptoms bothering too. I will have a fun day at work if these things don't let up some. Hope you have a better day.

My heart gets "rac-y, pound-y" at night for no apparent reason. I really think it's a combination of hormones and food that cause it. Sometimes I could barrels of ice cream (I don't but you know what I mean) and be just fine. Then sometimes the racy, poundy feeling is so bad I get anxious and sweaty. Now, last night was bad. I took two Tums and I was back to normal. Go figure!

Ok I feel better this morning. Just a little tired. I know my food choices were bad. I actually had a Coke in the early morning yesterday and I don't drink them often because of acid reflux (I used to be a big Coke drinker). I have been having those stupid headaches and the last couple of days Coke is the only thing that got rid of them. I only had one of those cute little 8 oz. ones. I did take a Slo-mag and after a couple of hours I could relax and go to bed. I also started my period last night which could have possibly added to it!

My heart hasn't really raced in a long time. It just feels like is skips a beat and I feel the flutter in my throat. I have never ever had so many at one time and for such a long time. Usually, I notice them every once in awhile.

I love coming here and it helps 100% to just read the posts and know I am not crazy or alone! Thanks a million!

Hi Stephanie,
glad you're feeling better today!
Just to say that I used to suffer really badly with palps but then I gave up chocolate & drastically reduced my sugar intake & they are so much better. Also I had another symptom that was even scarier than the palps & this seemed to stop me focussing on them which I think also helped!
However, when my period is due the palps can just appear out of the blue again usually the day before & first day of my period so as you said, that could definitely have contributed. A couple of months ago it was day 16 of my cycle & the palps started up a bit & I thought it must be because it's mid-cycle but then the next day my period started & I had the worst day I've ever had with palps. I couldn't move without them being triggered. I had ectopic beats & runs of irregular beats & I was really scared. Then the next day they completely disappeared again! It was so obviously down to my hormones.

Again I will say it is so nice to know I am not alone. I wish none of us had to experience these things but it helps to talk about it. I think we all have a fear that we will kill over or something is wrong and the doctor just keep telling us we are fine. I have never been a hypochondriac but I feel like one now. I just don't understand at 38 (I'll be 41 in August) how bam you are fine one minute and not the next. It started out with horrible heartburn and I ended up having my gallbladder out. I still have heartburn from time to time though. After that the anxiety kicked in full force plus the PVC's. Miss "regularity" became Miss "what the heck happened to my periods" as they are weird at times. Don't get me started in the moodiness department! LOL The list goes on and on!

Anyway, thanks for all the help and support!

Stephanie
