HELP – I’m feeling so confused.

I went to my doctors last month as I had not had a bleed for 80 days and had had a few hot flashes and a few mood swings, nothing major though. He suggested a blood test for thyroid and menopause, although said at 43 I was probably too young for menopause.

The blood results came back at FSH 34.3 and LH and 24.4. He then told me that this indicated I was postmenopausal. I know this can’t be right as you have to go a full year without any bleeding, but is it normal to go from not even realising your’re approaching menopause to being told you’re postmenopausal. I feel shocked and upset that I’ve been living with my body for 43 years and didn’t even realise it was going through major changes.

I also know that FSH levels aren’t good indicators of menopause when you’re actually having periods, but are they more accurate when you’re not having them.

Oh by the way hello, I’m new – hope you’re all ok

Hi Magenta and welcome to Power Surge! I think the FSH tests should be OUTLAWED! I have had them 4 or 5 different times and OH MY GOSH what a waste of money! I have finally realized that only I KNOW what my body is going through and what I'm feeling is REAL. Doctors get paid the big bucks to stand there looking handsome and YOUNG in their white coats telling us "You are TOO young to be going through menopause". I'd like JUST once to stick a hot flash up their noses or give them a RIP ROARING anxiety attack in the middle of one of their medical conventions! Hmmmph, I say! Read, read, read these posts here by all of us women GOING through menopause. Compare notes, talk, vent, share your thoughts and feelings. THIS is probably the best info you're gonna find in the good ole world of Menopause!!
HUGS!

Hormones fluctuate soo much that to me tests are not accurate.Trust yourself, read the posts and pray. You will discover that most of us have" I can't believe this moments".The range of symptoms and problems is immense, drs want to fit things into neat little packages, menopause does not fit into a neat little box,it is like a garage overflowing with 20- 30 years worth of junk!!I truly hope you feel better and find relief.GOD bless.
