Any other women who have tried the Nuva Ring for low dose birth control or perimenopausal symptoms?  I just finished my first month.  Don't know if it's for me...had nausea for most of the 3 weeks on.  The thing that makes this a bit more challenging to manage is that the manufacturer says to always insert it at the same time & day every 4th week.  One must have a great memory (and a calendar) to keep track.

    An update...attempted second month of NuvaRing this Sunday...I had to remove it!  In twelve hours,  I experienced extreme nausea and significant lower back pain...so much so, that this awakened me from a peaceful slumber.        I would like to hear from any PowerSurge women out there who have tried this.

Just saw my Dr for the first time with all these peri symptoms and she gave me the NuvaRing. She told me it releases hormones steadily unlike other forms that peak when you take them and drop. She also told me her daughter uses it and she herself would if she had any need. I Looked on here to see if I could find any experiences, and I want to thank you for sharing yours, it gives me an idea of what to watch for. Any one else?

I'm not taking NuvaRing for birth control as I had a tubal ligation 7 years ago when my dear son was born, but for my peri symptoms. My Dr did say I could leave the ring in place for 4 weeks and then put another in to only have periods every 2 months. The rings have enough hormones in them to last 4 weeks, she assured me. I hope this works out. I have noticed I seem to always have to go to the bathroom (since I put it in this afternoon,) I wonder if I am subconsciously holding my muscles b/c I'm afraid of pushing the ring out. I'll probably be up all night going to the bathroom, and I can't get online with this computer in the bedroom and DH would wake up. Has anyone else had experience with the NuvaRing???

My little sister used this for a short time for extreme bleeding. She had problems with alot of BC such as feelings of rage, bad nightmares, panic, and back pain. She had such huge fibyroids that she had to get a hysteroctemy in Jan '04 and now she is complaining just a bit about peri symptoms (she still has her ovaries). Hope this helps, Tina

I'm rather like Mattia sister in that I've have severe reactions to oral contraceptives. I get morbidly depressed, so never made it past day 3. Before I gave birth I could tolerate the suckers. My sister had luck in peri with oral contraceptives. She also had fibroids, so shutting off her periods ended the bleeding nightmare. Although, the estrogen could have made the fibroid grow. Eventually she had a uterine embolization, which is a good alternative to hysterectomy. Do I recall correctly that you have fibroids, rmg?? No Whining, wow, I have to not whine and go through meno too.lol:D Well, since I don't have PMS from Satan today, I'll work on it.

I would have liked to see more responses on this thread since I was just given the Nuva Ring too! But, I'm happy to share my experience and see if I can attract any more gals who've used it:

I don't say this irreverently- but I had to take the ring out after a week. I had a constant headache, lots of body tension, and little achy pains in my upper body. It affected my usual great sleep too! I woke up this a.m. and couldn't wait to get it OUT!

Oddly enough, in my 20s and early 30s I was on low-dose birth control pills with no side effects that I was aware of. However, my body has changed enough now that at 45, I guess I can't tolerate whatever mix of hormones the Nuva Ring provides.

On to the next approach....

I've been on the Nuvaring for the 2nd month. Everything is great. My periods have decreased to two weeks (as opposed to 21). Night sweats have been reduced and I feel much better.

I tired Yasmin and thought I was losing my mind.

I'm using the hormones to reduce a growing ovarian cyst and decrease bleeding. I'm scheduled for a follow-up transvaginal ultrasound on the 15th and a Saline Infused Sonogram to determine if hormones or endometrial polyps are the cause of my bleeding.

I realize this is an old thread, but I just wanted to report that my experience with NuvaRing has been great. I have been on it for 4 months and virtually all my symptoms have gone away. It is very convenient and I haven't had any side effects. I remove it on the first of the month, have a regular period and then replace it on the fifth of the month. I can feel the symptoms coming back during those five days, but it is bearable. I was very skeptical since I had taken BCP with disasterous results earlier in life and I was determined to go through the change naturally, but this has been a godsend. It has given me my life back.

I hear ya and I agree. I started on Nuvaring about a year ago and it kept everything under control, but gradually my PMS symptoms came back. Not as bad as before though. I've quit taking it because I think it may have raised my blood pressure. I'm off it for a couple months to see if my bp will go back down. It didn't go up a lot. I used to be 112/78 and now I'm 130-140/78. It could be stress too. I've had a lot of stress in the last year. The thing I liked most about it was it regulated my cycle. Now that I'm in peri my period comes whenever, where ever. The ring made it behave. I plan to go back on it in a few months after I see whether or not it is responsible for the blood pressure.

I didnt have quite the same results with Nuva Ring. After six months, my hair started falling out like crazy. Went off the pill right away, and have never completely stopped losing hair. Not sure what happened, or why, but felt it was due to the pill
