Hi gals - wondered if any of you who have been on Prempro had leg cramps or sore muscles. I have been on it for 2 weeks and had some cramps, bloating and now a little brown discharge the last two days. I see these side effects listed on the Prempro websight, but of course I am the ONLY one who has ever REALLY had them! I am just so depressed over these stupid effects - anxiety still with Prozac and of course the wonderful world of "butterflies" in my body. Still waiting for Dr to get blood test results - she said she might re-evaluate what kind of HRT to use based on that. I have the most wonderful family who listens to me go on and on and on about all these things - I know they are as frustrated as me and they aren't feeling what I'm feeling. I can't seem to find anyone else around who has it this bad - am SO thankful you gals are around 24-7 for me to read and find comfort with - you're the BEST!

Kimberly, if it were me and I really needed HRT, I would not pick Prempro. It contains Premarin, which is not even close to the hormones your body once made, and it's made from pregnant mare's urine. There are many other estrogens to choose from, and something that's more bio-identical would be a better choice in my book, anyway. By the way, I do believe that hormones cause all of those symptoms.

Power,
Please be very cautious and diligent in using Prempro. My mother used it and ultimately did get a rare form of breast cancer that was directly linked to Prempro use. I must also share that she was on Prempro for way too long (about 10 years or more) and that now they do know about this link and I think perhaps the dosing amount of Prempro is now limited to lessen this potential risk. I asked my mom (who's the first to ever have breast problems in our family) why she was on it so long and she shared that she tolerated it just fine and it kept her from having hot flashes. Once peri hit me knowing her experience with HRT I decided not to take anything at all and just wing it. I do believe that a person should make their own choice and I know of the ability of modern medicine to provide a better quality of life. I also know that in most cases the side effects do not outweigh the benefit in taking the med....but I tend to be overly cautious and personally prefer to take meds only if I can't avoid them. I don't want to frighten you....and I don't think you have any reason to be as long as you discuss the potential side effects of this med and compare it to the benefits. I just want to encourage you to research it throughly and take it only as long as needed.
God bless...
