I actually roll out of bed and lay on the floor when I feel a hot sweat coming - that way the bed doesn't get clammy, my thrashing around doesn't wake him, and it's cooler on the floor and passes sooner. And I sleep naked.
LOL Jean, do you realize what a funny word-picture that is? Another thing you (or I) could try is putting a fan in the back seat of the car. But NO cocaine!!!! We're too old for that......In fact, Snowbird, do you have a fan in the back seat too?
Geeeeeeeeezzz, sorry ladies, i am SUCH a brat tonight! I'll give you my snailmail address so you can physically kick my butt.

I get more chills than sweats at night. I'm covered by 5 thermal blankets and it's pleasant outside. I don't have a fever, but I act like I do. In the middle of the night, I am sweating like a person who has just finished a rigorous exercise routine. During the day, however, I'm usually quite warm...Help!

hey there gang
This is the first post I've seen that has to do with chills(from celticquill) I'm cold most of the time, maybe I'm getting the chills instead of the hot flashes!!!!!! It's 80 degress out today and I am sitting here frozen, goose bumps and all. Even my fingernails have a blue tinge to them.Although I did wake up this a.m. a little sweaty and then noticed some shakin' going on inside. I am very  by this. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing. Doc said my blood was a LITTLE low the first part of summer but I don't think it's that low. But then again maybe it is? Do I sound  Ya I probably do. When I stand up after I've been sitting for awhile I get dizzy and sometimes have to grab onto whatever is close.Anyhoo if anyone else out there in cyber land has experienced this I would love to here from you.:smile:Think I'll wrap myself up in a blankie and read some more of Dr. Christiane book. The ironing can wait.

Wish I could help...the only thing I can add is....I use to be like that, when my thyroid, was low!! Just a thought, have you had it checked???
I've actually came to this topic...cuz, last night, was the first night in a long....long while, that I struggled with ~~~sweats~~~ *Sob-Pout*I had one, (that I know of) hot flash:o:o....then the rest of the night....I just sweat my little ol' heart out!! Aaargh!! Kept me awake most of the night:angry: Poor hubby...I had the window open....a nice lovely cold Kanuck blast was coming in!! I just laid there, with no blankies at all!! The only time I felt chilled, was about 5am...when everything started to settled down! "Ohh the *Woes* of it all" If it isn't one thing it's another!!I really hate the night sweats....I even took my temp...sheesh!! Of course, it was normal!!
Can't help ya out much about the chillies....'cept, they came later....much later!! *shiver*Now, I hafta, buy some more cool....very cool, cotton jammies!!

I had chills very badly when I had high blood pressure .
Might as well get it all checked before blaming it on meno. I didn't check it at all and got into kind of a mess for awhile there. Better safe than sorry, I always say. (well, I always say it now anyway)hugs, jeanne

Hi All: Thought i would update with my progress so far. i've had my prescription of Biest (3.75) since mid August and the night sweats are GONE! !!! It took a bit of doing - first I was on 2 per day then had to switch to 3 per day, and that finally did it.
One of the problems that I've experienced is that I got a whopping case of ulcers in my mouth. We're talking emergency room 'cause I couldn't eat or swallow kind of thing. Then I got the idea that it COULD be from dissolving the Biest under my tongue. I emailed Pete and he called me on the phone and said to start swallowing them whole with food. Well, it turns out that I had a viral infection (herpangina), a bacterial infection AND thrush - all at the same time. That was going on 3 weeks ago and the ulcers are finally disappearing from under my tongue, though the surface of my tongue still feels scalded! I tried going back to dissolving the Biest under my tongue but it was too painful. Has anyone else had problems with the sublingual Biest?
Another question: I no longer have a uterus OR ovaries. I am on the Biest - will I still have all the PMS problems/symptoms that I did when I had my ovaries (like weight gain, bloating, etc.).
Well, thanks for listening! Pete really is a sweetie!Rhonda
Kalanie
Sep 24 2001, 10:13 PM
Hi Rhonda... Pete has given me the Biest (2.5 mg) in an oil capsule form.... maybe you might want to consider that instead of the sublingual form. I have had no problems, and my night sweats have been gone for 3 months now. He does have me taking progesterone and testosterone in sublingual form, and I am not having problems with those, either. I hope you get the mouth and tongue back into good shape soon!

Hmm good question. all I can figure is that when you are moving around your blood is circulating more and just moving around probably keeps you a little cooler. Then when you lay down all that stops and you can feel it more. Make any sense? It did to me for about 60 seconds lolhugs, jeanne

Sep 29 2001, 10:04 AM
When I was posting the question....hubby came into the room, (knew my problem)....and said something curious!! "If they (night sweats), are at night:biggrin: then they must occur when you are lying down, (when sleeping)."He said, is sounded obvious to him!! HeHe!!! Soooo....logical!! *Sigh* I said, "Yeah...but why??" He said, "Cuz , your laying down." Grrr! Men....ya gotta luv 'em:biggrin:
However, during the day.....I also, wonder, are they just sweats....or Day Sweats....or....like you said, circulation just slows down, and you feel it more!! *Sheesh* I almost wish I haven't asked.......now the Bird is a curious bird;)
Altho' today is another day.....I woke up feeling yucky...aches 'n pains....fibro kicking in....and arthritis:angry:

This is my first visit. I was using black cohosh for hot flashes and night sweats and it worked great for 6 months, then my body got used to it. Then I tried Vitex with no results. I've heard about the compunded estriol cream, how do you get it. Don't you have to get your doctor to prescribe it? Do you think I could try black cohosh again after a months vacation from it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Pat

Welcome to the boards :)Sorry that you missed the chat on Thursday - we had a great compounding pharmacist as a guest, Pete, from College Pharmacy. Lots of the women go to him for help.
About compunded estriol cream...you would need a prescription for that. If your own doctor will not prescribe for you, Pete mentioned in the chat that they have a House Doctor you can use. You might want to look into that.
Best of luck to you!

Hello - I'm new here and from the UK but I'm sure we share the same menopausal symptoms as well as language :-)
I have been having dreadful night sweats for over 2 months now but I have also just finished a course of chemotherapy for breast cancer. I WAS going into the menopause before the cancer was diagnosed but the chemotherapy has really affected my hormones and I can't have HRT as I suffer from "migraine with aura" which has sometimes left me semi paralysed down one side (the doctors over here won't give hormones (as a general rule) to people who have migraine with aura !) I have heard that "Wild Yam" and Soya" can give you some "natural oestrogen) (my tumour is not oestrogen positive so this is not an issue) BUT I do also suffer from fibromyalgia and IBS and wonder if anyone has had sort of gastric side effects from taking either of these alternative medications ?

Feb 9 2002, 02:01 AM
Hi Jasc... I get gas from the Revival Soy product that you will see written about all over these message boards, but I have still been able to take it in the form of the bars... the liquid is the only mode that gives me the gas symptoms, no matter how I drink it, or even if I use the special enzyme they sell to combat it. I will not, however, give it up, as I have seen many, many positive results for myself that far outweight the gas, especially since I can get around that with eating the bars.
I hope this is helpful to you, but please realize that there are many women here who can take any form of it without the gas problem, and who would also just about die before giving it up, like myself. :)

Hi everyone, I don't know if I'm goind this right, or if I am in the right place even but I'll tell you about my experiences with nightsweats anyway. I am 51 and have been perimopausal for almost 8 years. I took loestrin for awhile to regulate my periods, and then I went off for two years. In those 2 years I tried some natural supplements soy, black cohosh-and it seemed to be OK with and occasional night sweat and hot flash. It wasn't until this last fall that everything went wacky. My peiords have stopped now almost 9 months, I had some problems with asthma and bronchitis, which worried me for awhile, and I think that threw me into a real tizzy. I got anxious, fearful. So one thing led to another and my nightsweats started getting progressively worse. I'd wake up every hour sweaty, then chilly and shaking. I tried prempro, it aggravated my asthma, so I only took it for 3 days. For the last week I have been taking natural hormones. Estridiol, prometreium. So far it hasn't helped. I don't know how long it takes for these things to work. How much to take? I have a doctors appt. for a phsycial next Wed. so maybe I can get somemore insight. But these nights I just feel so bad. Like will I ever feel normal again. I guess there is no real definition of normal, but it sure would be nice to sleep in comfort, (with my husband again. Thanks for reading this.

Mar 26 2002, 10:26 AM
Minnie,Never fear, you will be "normal" again someday--whatever THAT is! :)Menopause symptoms are caused by an imbalance of hormones, not necessarily the "lack" of them. The trick is, finding what works for you.I would suggest that you read some of the other posts and threads on the "Night Sweats" board, and also, go to the "Recommendations" page. You can get to it from the Power Surge Quick Links at the top of every page. Just go to the drop down menu and click on it. There are some VERY good suggestions there that have helped alot of us. Also, check the "chat schedule" and join us if you can! We have Thursday night "guest" chats, and informal chats throughout the week. You can find that on the main PS message board. Good luck to you!!!!!Debbi

My Experiences:
I get this really chilly feeling all over, even under the comforter....and then, all of a sudden...my head startsheating up and then my neck....until I have to sit upand get a cold rag to put on me.
They make me have heavy breathing and a faster heart rate, too. Sometimes, it wakes me up and makes me sit up so fast, almost in a panic. Myhubby doesn't know what to think about them.
I can't sleep at all....and even if I take a sleeping pill...I still can't sleep really well. My hubby is having someproblems sleeping, too...since, I am keeping him up.
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.... :o)

Hi all- I'm new and have just finished this thread. I just turned 50, all organs intact , vegetarian, familiar with soy as it is much of my intake, on progesterone cream, still get a sporadic period every few months, take black cohosh and other recommended supplements.. I cannot tell you the last time I slept a full night and WITHOUT hot flashes. I wake up steaming hot and then get chilled as I dry off. I've tried Ambien and it does nothing- I need a KNOCKOUT drug and then I wouldn't be able to function for work! :-( Another thing that just recently happened is that I suddenly went "dead" in my sexual organs. I have no desire and I cannot find arousal as it feels dead. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I've always had a very strong libido and this whole thing is bumming me out terribly. I have a loving and patient husband and would like to have my life back. Anyone care to respond? Thanks in advance.

May 1 2002, 05:41 PM
hey crowgirl: I have been in the same place (that hot, flashing low-libido place!)--- I am also on the progesterone cream with occasional periods. However, I do use a dab of estrogen cream, as I was told that one of the first signs of low estrogen might be hot flashes. Since I started with the estrogen cream I haven't had the bad flashes or the night sweats that I had. Maybe someone else can comment on this also in case I don't have my info correct? I was given Testosterone drops (sublingual) for the libido but the jury is still out on whether it helps or not, and is quite expensive. The only difference I saw in having testosterone was an increased interest in watching the sports channel on t.v. (L>O>L>)

I have these night sweat things, but no daytime hot flushes yet. They tend to come in the run up to my period and last a few days, continue for the first couple of days of the period then go away again.I just take off my nightie, throw back the duvet, or sometimes do both and go off to the loo, and the walking around naked has the effect of cooling me down.I hasten to add that I would not do the walking around in the night naked bit if we had visitors, that would be a nasty shock for them!!

Ok, Beth, lol, I assume a "duvet" is a bed cover of some sort, and "the loo" is the bathroom?
