unsure.gif I'm 47 and have been in peri since I was about 39, and the symptoms I have experienced have continued to get worse. I have purchased several books that have helped with some symptoms, but no matter what I try or do I can't seem to eliminate the constant bloating and cramping which ultimately results in horrendous gas. I have altered the food I eat and try to drink lots of water, but I still have this problem. I feel horrible all the time. I don't want to go anywhere socially because I never know when I'll get cramping pains and have the sudden, uncontrollable urge to "let it all out..." Lately, I've even been skipping my workouts at the gym because I feel embarrassed by the smell. I seldom eat beef because that seems to really bother me, and I eat fruits and fiber daily to help me stay regular. I had extremely limited my dairy when I was about 37 and that had a huge impact on my cramping and gas problem, but now it's back in full force.

Is there anyone else who has experienced this problem and found some remedy? I haven't tried GasX strips or Beano yet; nor have I tried Metamucil.

I have it,it settles in my gut and makes my chest hurt sometimes.I found much relief with Mylanta with simethicone, its an anti gas, they also have simethecone pills,I know I am mispelling that, but you will find it.It seems to make the gas go away, and much blushing, gives your gas a slight minty odor,at least for me.Hope that helps. tongue.gif

I have been trying to eat a handful of fresh parsley every day. Supposedly it's great for relieving bloating, reducing gas, it improves your breath, and it's got lots of vitamins. Google parsley, and you can see what I mean.

I just recovered from two weeks of hideous gas. I still am always scared I'm going to f**t during my abs class at the gym (or during sex!) If anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Hi,
I just mentioned this on another topic about activa yogurt , it suppose to regulate the bacteria in the gut, and straighten things out so to speak. I've been trying it the last few days for acid reflux to see if it helps with that. Good luck!

Just wanted to mention that there is a tea you can make that really helps it is made from STAR ANISE, you can find this lil herb in the herbal stores or even in markets in the spice ailse.
It is brn and looks like lil brn stars, you just crush it up and pour boiling hot water over it and let it steep add a splash of honey and drink it for a few days it works for quite a few of us gals.
Take care,
Oh also of course durring this time you just need to watch what you are eating like easy on the broc, caulif. etc
Also what really cleaned me out was a safe colon cleanse I just took a few tablets a day and it didint make me run to the bathroom.
I started it on the weekend to be safe. I think they have some now that only last 7 days you can look into to that to.

I have had bad gas for the past 10 days. Started out with the runs....then that stopped and then I started belching like crazy after I ate or drank ANYTHING....now the runs have stopped but I am having pain in my stomach only relieved by belching or passing gas.

I am going to the doc today as I have had two bowel infections but many years ago but want to rule anything like that out as it all just started within the past 10 days.

I also had an endometrial ablation done two months ago. Two root canals within the past month and now this gas problem.

Sometimes I wonder if it is anxiety....I don't know - I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Kat take a deep breathe and try not to worry. I had the Big D for almost 2 months late last year. Still have abdomen pain and diarrhea off and on.
Saw a gasto specialist. Had a upper gi & colonoscopy and a abdomen ct scan, all came back normal!
Trying to chark it up to peri!

Perikat,
I read somewhere that when are hormone levels are changing eg at the onset of a period, then those same hormones affect lots of parts of the body, not just the uterus. The bowel becomes more active, and this is why we are more 'flatulent' at period time. I think this must also apply to the menopausal changes too. Just something to consider,

Hi All-

GAS and CRAMPING This is my new peri symptom. This started last year around labor day but it was off and on. I thought I had this under control by changing my diet, more fiber and water etc. Well now it is back with a vengence. It seems to start about the week before my period and lasts thru till the end of my period. I don't remember having this much gas or gas related pain when I was younger. I am fairly regular ( if you know what I mean) but these cramps are awful ( I would say some are related to gas and some to my period). My period has been light but the cramps have been painful.

I will try the Activia yogurt. Any other suggestions are appreciated. I have a gyn and GP appointment to ck everything out. I am almost positive that this is peri related as I am 49 this year and my periods are so light and not very regular.

This is really getting me down. As someone said on this thread I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. This has affected my life as my evenings seem to be worse and who wants to feel bloated and have painful cramps, stomach issues every day.

I never really had this issue before the end of last year and I can really feel for those who do now. I never knew it could be so uncomfortable and yes painful.

I feel like crap most of the time so I don't do much lately.

I hope we get some relief soon.

Hi All-

I posted earlier. I have bouts of almost constant belching, the need to pass gas (for relief of a bloated feeling or pressure) often I have the feeling of the need for a bowel movement but can't pass much but gas or I don't feel like I have finished when I gone to the bathroom.

Sometimes I have pain (not sharp) but a sensation of pain and discomfort from my lower abdomen the seems to spread right to my feet. The best way I can describe it is a huge cramp or set of cramps. It can last for like 10 minutes but it feels longer and I am wiped out by this.

I also have some heart burn but my main complaint is gas and bloating and a change in bowel movement. I am regular go about 1 to 4 times a day when feeling like this. Then it can disappear for months.

I have setup Dr's appointments but I am worried. Has anyone felt an intense sensation of pain or cramping from gas? Last night I almost went to the emergency room. I know this can be hormonal and for me it comes around my period and can take time to settle down.

Sorry to be so descriptive.

Can this be IBS?

Thanks Snowmoon56,

I chew a lot of sugar free gum daily. I had also read somewhere else that NOT eating artificial sweeteners may help reduce or eliminate gas and bloating, so I'll try giving up the gum and see if that affects the gas. I have stopped drinking diet soda and that has helped with bloating, but I don't know if it's affected the gas since I still chew gum.

I'll keep everyone posted.
