oh boy, here we go again! Back in January, my right leg went ballistic, then my left. I lived with the hot/cold, pins and needles, warm flushing feeling in my foot, and the worst of all...the feeling that there isn't any blood flowing to the lower part of the leg, or foot! Now, obviously it was, because I am still here, and functioning...well, last night, I was sitting here on the comp. chair, which is like a rolling office chair, and had only been sitting here for about 10 minutes, when my RIGHT leg (again) started to tingle, and feel weird....within a few seconds, it started to get numbish....so I immediatley stood up, and yet, it felt like the blood WASN'T flowing down there, you know, the normal feeling of the blood flushing back into your leg and foot, the warmth, the pins and needles when that happens...wasn't happening!!! I stood there, petrified! I tried to move my right foot, and I could move it, it just felt sort of numb, and "thick", I decided to walk on it, and THAT'S WHEN the pins and needles started kind of flowing back down to the foot. Then FINALLY it started tingling, and that feeling of the blood rushing back in, finally happened. But it wasn't as overwhelming as it usually is, usually, at least with me ... when one of my limbs has "fallen asleep" and is numb, when the blood comes rushing back in, the pins and needles and tingling is usually pretty bad....well, NOT THIS TIME...it was weird, it just sort of slowly happened, that was weird. I had to keep walking on it. Finally, in about 5 minutes or so, it was ok, and felt sort of normal again, but still weird.
All I know is, after that, it's been pins and needles, hot/cold, the feeling that that right leg is hotter than the left (which, by the way, it has actually FELT hotter on the skin as well)...oh man, this is awful! I couldn't even sleep last night because of this! I ended up sleeping on and off on the couch, because I could sort of half sit and half lay down, with my leg propped up on pillows. It comes and goes right now.....but the pins and needles and warmth feeling is there most of the time.

ok, is this REALLY hormonal? I tend to think it is, because I had all this in January, and it wasn't a clot. But hey, why is it ONLY ONE LEG? You would think, that if it was hormonal, that would be in your blood, right? NOw, your blood flows through out your whole body, so why would it only affect ONE LIMB?

sometimes this feeling makes me feel like I'm going to scream! I just want it to stop!

hi again...I just wanted to add something, I'm about to get my period in a few days ... I don't know if that would trigger this, but then again, it DIDN'T just start up out of nowhere, I was sitting on the chair, so maybe I somehow cut off the blood circulation to my leg??????? (I don't think i did.....I mean, I sit there all the time, and that doesn't happen)

mydarling...

I'm NOT a physician, just a nurse, but with the symptoms you described and having had it checked out in Jan. for clots, I would lean towards a very general common sense type of thing going on in your leg. Sciatica or other nerve compression. Here's a little test...when you feel like you have no circulation going on in that leg...look at it...look at your toes...are your nailbeds white/bluegray? Any temp. changes with your hands to touch it? If not, then it's most likely nerve compression, rather than circulatory. This is very common esp. when it's near period time, b/c most of us retain fluid which has a tendancy to make us have a tight swollen feeling. I notice it myself in my lower back, on the right side esp. close to the time I am going to have a period. About 3 days after it ends, I'm not nearly as puffy and my lower back doesn't hurt so much. I've had the MRI, the CAT scan, chiropractic treatments (which they say the muscles are too tight to manipulate!) so I too have ruled out other issues. Plain ol' muscle tension can actually compress nerves making arms and legs feel like "pins and needles". Weird, isn't it? I'd just get up and wiggle it, don't fall down and drink a lot of water. This actually flushes out the fluid retention instead of holding onto it. (I don't mean 2 gallons day, but at least 8 glasses of water daily!) Try it.

I agree with you, I've not heard that hormones can be blamed for symptoms in ONE leg! LOL!

Hope this helps...

Hey My Darling,

Welcome to my world. Whenever I sit here at the computer, feet down or up, doesn't matter I get the prickly feeling. It's all from estrogen levels gone mad.

I'm not sure if it's exactly as you describe but it sure was troubling before I found this site. Docs were baffled. I was in fear all the time. But it's all worked out and now I just take it for what it is.

I hardly notice it anymore, but as I ponder it, I feel it.

See a chiro just to be on the safe side. He will be able to determine if you're compressing a nerve or something like that. Adjusting the lower back might help, too.

Otherwise, if you're like me, it's one heck of a ride, but we know it won't last forever.

Peace and love
Lady E
You are not nuts, since your period is about to start it probably is hormonal-start writing down what happpens the week before ,during and after your period. Then next time compare notes. This helps me.GOD bless.

I had those exact same symptoms for eight whole months. I didn't know wether to sit, stand, or scream. I screamed. That didn't help, but it didn't hurt. laugh.gif I found out that it goes away, eventually. It seems to leave as suddenly as it comes on. And who knows, it might be because your period is starting, but mine would be a constant thing, whether my period was starting or not. Are your hips hurting really bad, too? Mine did, to the point where I couldn't stand for more than 20 minutes at a time,or was that fatigue? unsure.gif rolleyes.gif Oh, well, I can't explain this stuff, just comisserate. I know it WILL go away, if that's any help smile.gif And I know it's not anything really to worry about, either, just another "vasomotor" symptom, and if it WERE something to worry about, I'd be dead, and not typing. cool.gif Have a great day

Hi guys....

thank you for all the replys! I don't know where I'd be if I couldn't come here and "panic" and have people care! OK, well, at least the leg is getting a lot better, but NOW IT'S MOVING TO THE LEFT LEG..LOL! OH MAN! This is never ending....since I got my period today, I figure it HAS to have something to do with that, wouldn't you think? Last month, in Feb.,I got my period the NEXT DAY after noticing that vein that was a little popped out on my left temple, some of you may remember that....then, came all that temple pressure and head pain,,,well, see, I got my period THE NEXT DAY! so, I have to say that I think this is at least SOMEWHAT hormonal here. yeah, I've been keeping a journal of all this, so that I can track this nonsense. Karma, you had this exact same thing for 8 mos.? HOLY COW! I would loose my mind! Actually, I already have, what am i saying..lol.... no, this stinks, you can't really sleep, and it makes me feels so darn anxious! I end up just pacing the floor, to make my foot feel better, and somewhat normal. I'm SLOWLY getting to the point of just sort of "accepting" it, trying not to panic as much, and telling myself "it's all hormones", so hopefully myself will believe me sooner or later and not panic. But, in truth, I AM getting better at this, but boy oh boy, this isn't easy!!!!!!

thank you guys once again!!! sincerely, MyDarling
