I know this has been posted before, but these pains are awful. When I am up moving around, they are gone, but when I sit down or lay down I have these awful pains in my legs, behind my knees,in my calfs, and in the tendon behind my heels. Then I get these really strange deep muscle twitches-it feels like when your eye twitches only it is deep in my muscles. At least I am not thinking clots anymore. The pains are in both legs and multiple places.I have no swelling or redness.I did think it was from walking, but now I am wondering if this is more peri related,as I slowed my walking down and do a warm up first.Any similar experiences?Any advice.I already take magnesium and calcium with d.

Hi kiddo..........

OH YEAH!!! right here! I get that a lot, in fact, this whole thing started with my right leg again last night, and I am still dealing with it....the pins and needles, the hot/cold, the warmth flushing sensation down my leg and foot .... oh yeah, and the muscles twitches, deep inside the muscle! It feels as though the blood isn't flowing down to my foot, that's the feeling, i hate this! do you get that as well? I know some other ladies here have mentioned that feeling. Yes, it IS peri related, most definatley! HORMONAL! Back in Jan. I was getting TERRIBLE pains in my legs, in the calves, thighs, and behind the knee, I thought FOR SURE it was a blood clot, but NOPE it wasn't! ARE WE HAVING FUN YET! LOL!

I know, this stinks! Seems you and I are dealing with leg problems tonight, huh? Sincerely, MyDarling
Ardan
I have some thoughts...but are the twitches/pain better or worse DURING exercize or do they come later on, after the exercize is over? Let me know and I'll pass on some ideas to work with.

Hi...I thought of one other questions that is relevant...are you still cycling and if so what part of your cycle are you in. Let me know and I'll give you some thoughts about what you can do,

Hi,It is worse when I am lying down or sitting down, while I walk it is usually gone, maybe a twinge now and again, but nothing like when I lie down.I would have been on my period this past week before starting my bcp,so I guess this would have been the day after my period today, and the pain is not as bad this morning.I hope that answers your question Arden and hope you can help,my darling-I hope you are well today,it is so strange to me that peri can affect so many things.GOD bless.

Hi Girls, I have been going thru the same thing the past couple of weeks. The first thing i thought was " blood clot" lol. well it started in the back of my knee, the fatty, fleshy part, and i only felt it while i was driving. then one day about a week after it started i got out of my car and it didnt go away like it usually did. it hurt and ached all night so the next morning i went to the ER and asked if it might be a blood clot and the dr. did some examinations of my leg and said he didnt think it was a clot, but tendonitis. So the very next day i called my dr. and went in and he sent me straight to the hospital for an ultrasound to rule out a clot, even tho he said he didnt think it was one either. anyway, it turned out NOT to be a clot. he said to call him at the end of the week if it didnt feel better, which it didnt, and i went in for an MRI. It showed a little wear and tear in my joint but that was it so here i am wondering why im having this leg pain. it started behing my right knee and then started radiating down into mt calf and up into the inside of my thigh. it seems to be getting a little better because it isnt always constant now but comes and goes and hurts in different degrees of pain.and it doesnt hurt too much when im up moving around. i dont have any swelling but my feet seem to be colder lately and it hard to warm them up. (especially my right one)

Hi girls,
I've had all this too, pain, and pins and needles. what is tenonitis and what do u do for it? btw, My pain is less when moving, more is still. exercise seems to benefit, but, I had to stop strenuous exercise and just ride stationary bike and do stretches. when I lift things they feel heavier than what they are.

I get it when I am driving too!!I feel it right behind my knee, then up and down my calfs, then behind my heel. My dr said it was probably my tendons,It makes me feel so much more sane to hear you all talk about the same things.I love this board and all you ladies!! wink.gif

Hi...I think what you are dealing with is a cellular dehydration issues. Cell hydration is partially governed by adrenal hormone and estrogen (progesterone acts more as a diaretic (sp?).

The fact that it is happening when your estrogen is lowest is significant. If you do topical hormones you might try adding a small amount to your dose if you are noticing the twitches. If adrenal hormone is low you may also need a little replacement or to work on strengthening your adrenal function through natural means (look at information on "adrenal fatigue"). One or both of these things should help ... I am fairly confident that one of these hormones is lower at the time you are having them.

Exercise is actually helpful in the long run so don't avoid it...just make sure it is regular (very important) work yourself up to what you think is an appropriate amount and then stay put. The first two weeks will be hard, then (most of the time) it will be easier. If it is related to your adrenal gland (meaning your adrenals are weak) exercize challenges the adrenals -- the adrenal will adjust but consistency is important. (not exercizing will make the twitches worse in the long run -- the blood flow helps).

Hydration. If you don't have high blood pressure drink salty beverages (not gatorade -- too much sugar). Something like a broth even add extra sea salt in the morning. Alternate this with a high potassium beverage (lemon water, natural juice watered down). DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING WITH CAFFEINE this dehydrates cells, so particularly if the twitching is ongoing...skip the caffeine in any form.

You already said you are taking the eletrolyte minerals: but make sure you are getting potassium, magnesium, calcium.

(This goes without saying...don't eat anything that gives you diareea (sp?)

For short term sleeping purposes getting a prescription from your doctor for Quinine Sulfate (mine is for 300 mg but they come in differing dosages -- something in the 200-300 range). Not ideal to take, but it does not "solve" the problem but will temporarily stop the twitching so you can sleep. But do not overrely on it.

It might be a useful investment to take a month long saliva test (its a kit you can get over the internet or at a compounding pharmacy). It will test your hormones (including adrenal hormone) over several times of the month. If you write down your symptoms while you are doing this it should be a helpful tool to figure out what is going on.

A little more about hydration. Our bodies can only transport so many ounces an hour of fluid. That mean we can only re-hydrate our cells so fast if they become dehydrated. It is almost impossible to stay truly hydrated (cellularly) if our hormones are low. To rehydrate you need a combination of salt and potassium based fluids. Sugar contributes to dehydration so any kind of sugar, corn syrup etc will partially defeat what you are trying to do.

So...drink regularly ...have salty fluid early in the day and before exercize (if no blood pressure problems). Don't skip meals (hard on adrenals). No caffiene. (also my naturopath thinks extra B12 will help I take it, but I cannot tell)

I hope this is helpful. I know from first hand experience how difficult those twitches etc can be.

Thanks ardan,I am on Yasmin, which has a potassium sparing diurtetic, not a lot,but I have to be careful of my potassium intake,my BP is fine-I started checking it about once every two weeks.I am drinking a lot of water,I also feel that since these pains were worse during the week I should have had a period it is hormonal. Thanks for all the wonderful advice-I truly appreciate it.GOD bless.
