Good morning ladies~

So yesterday I decided to splurge! I had two large rootbeers with lunch. After dinner we went to Coldstone and I had a HUGE bowl of Chocolate, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. Now let me tell you what's in that.......brownies, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Last night as I was about to fall asleep, BAMMMM!!!! My heart started flipping around, I was in palp hell!
I have only experienced the fast heart rate, NOT the flipping and turning and skipping. OMG, it was horrible! I ran downstairs, took two Magnesium tablets, went back upstairs and grabbed my Claire Week's book, and finally fell asleep.

When Dearest specifically says....."AVOID SUGAR!", she's not kidding.

Now, I know, what you ladies are referring to when you speak of skipped beats and flops, YUK!

Don't forget that all of that chocolate has caffeine in it to, which also causes problems!
Karen03
You're absolutely right Meryl, the caffeine on top of all that is dreadful! I suppose this is a way for us ladies, that are living through this time of our lives, to be reminded of our eating habits! Obviously what I was able to tolerate in my teens, twenties and thirties, can not be tolerated now. I suppose this physical reminder is a good thing. It helps prevent the onset of much worse things (ie Diabetes, high cholesterol, bp, etc). I just wish this little reminder came in another form, perhaps a little kiss on the cheek, a hug, something of the sort;)

Don't you wonder why this all happens? Can't eat chocolate, drink coffee, drink alcohol, have anything with sugar, can't sleep, can't have sex because it hurts, causes bladder infections or you just don't want to! What's going on here! What are we allowed to enjoy?????? It's not fair!

Oh, yeah. Sugar DEFINITELY gets my palps going. And it doesn't take long either. I got into some Easter candy last night (I know it's early, but they're selling it and I wanted it), and within like an hour I got that familiar thumping in my chest. I know sugar brings them on, so why do I abuse myself? For the same reason I eat BBQ when I know it will cause heartburn --- because I like it!

Gotta love the Cadbury mini-eggs!! laugh.gif My dd and I wait for these every year. So this year what did they do? Make them in dark chocolate which I absolutely adore! Makes it very hard to stay away!!

Oh well, everything in moderation, so they say! wink.gif
Karen03
OMG, Cadbury eggs!!! The mini ones, the filled ones, the maltese kind, the gooey ones, love them all!! Right, so Easter will not be the same this year without Cadbury. I suppose that's what this peri thing is telling me...lay-off the sugar!!!! You've abused your body long enough!
Oh well, there's always hummus mad.gif

Stop talking about chocolate !!!!! (sobbing !!!!!)

Just kidding. :-) Though I do have to say that I started salivating when reading about the Cadbury eggs. Cadbury chocolate has a really wonderful special taste. I also like Dove chocolate.

Oh...those eggs....why can't they make them year round? It's probably a good thing they don't. I actually have one in my refridgerator(sp?) right now...but the scary thing is, I think I bought that one for my husband LAST easter. The even scarier thing is, that if I weren't desugaring right now, I'd eat it anyway. They do say that alittle chocolate everyday is good for you..but only an ounce of it. That's like bringing a thirsting animal to the pond and saying "you can only have a sip"....ain't gonna happen...

Hi Ladies!

I have had a love affair with chocolate for as long as I can remember. I had to wipe the dreul off my chin reading about the Cadbury eggs. I gave up chocolate for Lent and I have noticed that I've been feeling a lot better since then. It breaks my heart to think that my lovely chocolate is causing me so many problems. sad.gif I guess I'll see as the month goes on.

Have a good afternoon!

Dove Dark Chocolate Promises, the ones in the red foil, are my favorites. I keep them in my desk at work. They are 30 calories a piece, so I only allow myself two a day, right after lunch. I just let them slowly melt in my mouth. Eating them slowly like that sates my chocolate craving and makes me feel like I've had more than I did. You can't do that with Hershey. It's too waxy, so it doesn't melt properly.

You have a lot more will-power than I do! If it's in my desk, it's gone in a couple of days. Better to not have it around at all! ohmy.gif

I gave up sweets for lent and my palps have gotten much worse in the last 1-2 weeks. Could it be my body ajusting to not having all the sugar? I really miss the chocolate plus I don't feel as good. I have alot of peri symptoms but the palps really drive me crazy. Thanks for any help.

That's weird. Sugar is what brings my palps ON. I guess it depends on how much you were used to eating, though. You might very well being having withdrawals if you ate a lot. A friend of mine did that with caffeine. Started waking up with headaches every morning, and realized the headaches went away after she had her Diet Coke.
SandraSmith
cakh, what kind of chocolate did you give up ? Be specific ... is it dark or milk ? Lots of sugar or little sugar ?

I have eaten a lot less sugar in the past 4 days and my palpitations are winding down. Could just be a coincidence, but maybe not ! I'm a big sugar eater. I know it's bad for me, I'm like an addict. I dream about cinnamon rolls.

I stopped using sugar..or rather eating chocolate. It's a challenge because I collect gumball machines and as you walk in my front door I have a line of them...my favorites are the ones with the plain and the peanut M&M's. Then on my dining room table I have antique cookie and candy jars...filled with goodies. There's probably one of those darn cadbury eggs in one of them too.....

It took me a few days to quick feeling the pain in my stomach from the sugar withdrawel....yep...addicted. I feel better when i don't eat it and once I've stopped for a week then I no longer am tempted.

Sugar absolutely brings on my palps. I also had the withdrawal headaches when I gave up caffeine and chocolate, it was very strange. Even if I had a soda, I will feel terrible by the end of the day. It's just so tempting, everywhere you go you're surrounded by the stuff. Perhaps if the cycle changes again after all this peri/meno stuff, we can all grow old chowing down Cadbury eggs and making up for lost time :0)

Marie, I couldn't even live nextdoor to you.......I could just smell those machines filled with goodies. I would be like Fred Flinstone, remember how he used to dream about brontasouris burgers and he would float out of his window with a big smile on his face.......smile.gif That would be me!

Everyday I ate some form of sugar, cookie, ice cream, candy, dark or light chocolate, just something sweet. Not alot but enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. I have lost about 4 pounds, but the palps are still getting worse. Maybe it is just my hormones acting up. I have been on Tenormin for several years for the palps, but lately it's not doing much good. I guess I am just trying to figure out why the palps are getting bad again. I feel every skipped beat and it drives me nuts when it wakes me up. I stopped smoking and drinking caffeine about 6-7 years ago and remember the palps got bad for awhile, maybe it's just my body trying to ajust, I guess it doesn't like change! Thanks
