Dr. Northrup was on PBS today. Most of you are probably aware of her "Wisdom of Menopause" book which has been highly publicized the past few years (almost as much as Suzanne Somer's books about meno and hormone replacement). At one point in the PBS program, Dr. Northrup emphasized how many of her peri patients seem to hate all men and take it out on the husband who loves them. This is exactly what I have been doing with my husband. He has become the scapegoat for all my past issues in life, and my past experiences with men. Have any of you had this experience with your husbands?? I was surprised to hear Dr. Northrup emphasize how we are often unfair to our husbands during peri as a result of this anger. I'm definitely guilty of this. I was not this way before perimenopause started at age 43. I am now 47 and hoping my periods will end at age 47 as they did for my mother. Look forward to your experiences with anger toward men in general, and if you find your good husband is the scapegoat for this anger.
By the way, Dr. Northrup supports bioidentical hormone replacement for estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. However, she emphasized you have to find a doctor who understands BHRT and who is open to experiementing with different dosages etc. Every woman is different. Some may need more estrogen; some may need more progesterone; some may need some testosterone. The key is having a doctor who understands BHRT and a doctor who is willing to experiment until you find the right balance for your unique body. This is all on PBS with Dr. Northrup. She is helping get the word out to other doctors who often will only take other doctors like themselves seriously. My husband, who is a physician, even listened to Dr. Northrup's PBS appearance.
If you saw this program please share your thoughts with us regarding the anger issue she spoke about. Thank you for your input.
