Hi,

I have been having a terrible time with prometrium 100 mg. I feel terrible on it. Is progesterone the same thing? My Dr. said that I had to cut back to half of my dose of estrogen because of adverse effects of prometrium, if I wanted to try less. Now the estrogen isn't enough. I want from 100 mg of prometrium to 12.5 mg. of progesterone 2x per day and now 1.25 mg. of estrogen 1x per day. Has anyone done better on oral progesterone whn they couldn't take Prometrium, or are they the same thing (progesterone)? Is thee someone I could talk this over with? I called the Pharmacist and he was somewhat pushy about he giving out advise in order to build his business. What about chat? What is the best time to join in?

Welcome to PS. Prometrium is natural progesterone. I am taking 200 mg nightly 2 weeks per month and so far no bad side affects from it. Not sure what you are taking now that you are just calling progesterone. If the drug is called Provera then it is a synthetic progesterone(man made actually from horses urine ) Many woman find the side affects from it worse then the Prometrium. Not sure about cutting the estrogen down. I'm sure someone else will be along to help with that. As for the insta chat there is no set time. There are people in and out of there all the time. I was taking Prometrium 100 mg. nightly but I get horrible heart pounding from it. Dr. is cutting down my dose from 100 mg. 1x/day to 12.5 mg 2x per day of compounded progesterone. I haven't started it yet. Waiting for compounding pharmacy to send it. Dr. said I had to cut my estrogen down from 1.25 2x per day to half of that since I had to cut down my progesterone. What to do if you can't take progesterone. Many people have really bad side effects, I understand. I sure am. I'm also worried that cutting my estrogen won't be enough to help with symptoms. I've already been having some depression creep back today and I can't take estrogen until tonight. I know if I take estrogen withoug progesterone, I risk uterine cancer. I still hve my uterus and ovaries and haven't had a period for over a year. I'm 58.
