So far, I haven't had a sweat- I am almost 52 and still having periods anywhere between every 2 weeks, every 4 weeks, or every 6 weeks (the longest gap ever so far.) I am due for a period now and have had some PMT signs, but then they pass- I think I may be having phantom cycles. Usually before a period, I don't sleep well due to feeling hot,as part of my PMT but that is only for a night or two at most. Now, for about a week, I have started to feel really hot as soon as my head hits the pillow and I am under the duvet. I am also waking several times a night- not sweating, just a bit too warm. I don't know if this is the start of night sweats, or if it part of my PMT ?
Anyone had anything similar?

Yeah, my experience is very similar. I'm 46, still having mostly regular periods -- the timing is pretty regular at 25 days, although the flow is not -- 4 days long one month, 9 days the next. I rarely have full-blown hot flashes, just the "Is it warm in here, or is it just me?" syndrome, and a big one every couple of months.
But approximately the week before my period I start getting hot at night. It's not really night sweats where I have to change clothes, but more just waking to cover and uncover all night. I don't know that it's part of peri but I thinking it is, because it's pretty regular when it happens, it doesn't seem to matter what types of blankets or PJs I'm covered in -- I've changed blankets and pajamas numerous times, trying to find the right combination -- and I haven't touched the thermostat in my house in months, except to turn it down because I'm warm.
Hope that helps!

gig,
I had this too. Last year I would wake up with the sweat chest up, then I started to wake up just hot all over. Would throw covers off, couldn't wear pj's because would get extra warm. Just a hot feeling all over like a sunburn radiates heat. I am 6 months now without a period and am 51. It's part of the hormones. I would even turn my pillow over several times through the night so I could feel the cool of the other side of the pillow. Hope this helps.

Same with me. Head heat at 4 am would awaken me. For a while I thought it was maybe due to evening primrose oil, or black cohash wearing off. Had a devil of a time getting back to sleep. Over the months the heat became worse, and now its a battle to sleep with or without heat.
I read hear some ladies use a 'chillow'. You might want to track down that thread.

I get the sweaty feeling around my chest and neck. Try moisture wicking sleepwear it works. I also take Lunesta for sleeping. It really helps me sleep and fall asleep again when I wake up. My Dr. who is the same age, is very big on the importance of sleep for all over health. If you don't have RX insurance it can be pricey. My perscription costs me $40.00/month and for me that is well worth it. I have a sister-in-law who uses Benydril because it is inexpensive but then struggles with allergies during the day because she doesn't want to take anything else.
Good luck

Before I had my official hot flashes this year, I had a couple of years where I would often wake up in the middle of the night being too warm, despite cool temps in my condo. I'm beginning to think now it was a precursor to hot flashes.

Hi gig
For the past three nights I have woken up warm, not sweaty but enough to wake me up and toss and turn to get cool for an hour or so before getting back to sleep. I have had this before but there does not seem to be a specific pattern. This time it is right before my period. My periods are 26 to 31 days apart and in the past year have got a lot lighter.
In the day time hot rooms do the same. If I am wearing something and I can't take it off such as a thick jumper I just have to exit stage left pronto and find some cooler air.

ladies, it is indeed part of menopause, and can even be experienced post-menopause. I order the chillow pillow today, as I am desperate for sleep! I let you all know how it works.

Hi
I have had the same as above. I have just come off of HRT after being on for 6 years. I did it slowly over 2 months, but did not expect to get hot and sweaty at night again. I also experience anxiety with it and it is not nice at all. Very uncomortable and the next day of course feeling rough with not having a good nights sleep. What do I do?

I have been living with hot flashes for a couple of years now. I haven't slept with my covers on in so long that I can't remember. I have a method of folding them off me and then when I wake up cold just rolling them back on. A few times I woke up so hot that I got scared the heat was intense but it quickly passed. Sad to say that for me the hot flashes are the least bothersome of my peri symptoms. I have no helpful advice but I do sympathize with you all.

Hi Girls,
this is exactly what I experience & since day 17 to day 32 (today) I have just been feeling hot a lot. It's better in the day now but at night it's awful! The past few nights I've woken up at least 5 times with this heat feeling, I seem to wake up feeling OK & then the hot flush washes over me. I don't really sweat , someone else desribed it as the way sunburn feels & that's exactly it but my skin isn't especially hot to to the touch. I feel really awful for sleeping so badly this past week too.
I wouldn't mind them too much if they didn't wake me up so often. I shall maybe try taking phyto-oestregens again as they seemed to help before but I stopped them as I seem to be taking so many supplements!!
Love Marchgirl xx

Ahhh, those gosh darn night sweats. Starting having them a few months ago. It didn't surprise me to much because I had almost every single peri. symptom for 10 years

... Sometimes at night - I'd feel like I was dreaming of being in an oven - and then find out it wasn't a dream - it was real. It went on and off for a few hours - the solution for me was to take my p.j.'s off - have the sheet at the bottoms of the bed that I can quickly cover up if I feel chilled.
Interesting enough - after a few days (or a week or so) of the heat flashes/night heat - and all that stops...I have the best sleeping I've had for a few years. Deep sleep - not eager to get out of bed. I like it

... I look forward to when I feel that way alllllll the time. And it will - no doubt in my mind. Well, what's left of it
