I know, its mydarling again ..lol ... ok, well here we go... I woke up this morning with YET ANOTHER "problem", behind my left knee, there is a little "thing" that is about 1/8 of an ince in length, it doesn't seem to be on a vein, (I had every member of my family scrutinze this thing, PLUS, at my dr.'s appt. today for my pap smear, I MADE HIM look at it a number of times..,well, I wasn't leaving that office without him taking a look, and telling me what he thought darn it!..lol) .... ok, now, everyone, including the doc seems to think it's "nothing", and it looks to everyone like it's some sort of either cappilaires that burst, or some kind of bleeding under the skin, from "anything" (which is what I keep being handed as a "reason") . It varies between very red, to more like purple red, to almost brown during the day. IT DOESN'T HURT, IT'S NOT HOT, and I don't feel any bump, and neither did the doc.

He basically said, it's just "your age", (oh great) and peri, hey, I'm just glad he even acknowledged perimenopause as something "real"! Again, no answers as to why these vericose veins (which, by the way are getting lighter) ever popped up OUT OF NOWHERE in the first place, but what I got was "could be your hormones, peri....", GEE, REALLY? I guess I"m just getting frustrated becaue no matter who I see, they don't have an answer for why BOTH of my legs, esp. the RIGHT one, ended up with varicose veins that ACHE! This is ridiculous. OK, but back to this red thing behind my knee...lol ... it is now RED again, and I was absolutley a basket case at his office, my husband came with me, and kept trying to calm me down, because I was positive it was phlebitis! Hey, with all these varicose veins, I've researched PLENTY over these weeks, and I know by heart all about this now, and when you see a varicose vein that looks RED, that's not a good sign, because that means it's inflamed and phlebitis! (which means blood clots can form). Well, I have to laugh now, but I really was worked up! (to say the least about the PAP smear, geez, I think he took a piece off..lol..UGH!) but, he looked at my cervix, and said it looked fine, and did the pelvic and said the ovaries seem great...so that was good. But, I guess I"m nervous about that red "vein" behind my knee. I'ts not really a whole vein, it's really only a tiny piece of one, and actually, nobody including the doc. seems to think it's even on a vein in the first place.

Well, I don't know. I know I feel a little pressure behind that knee, which I dont like. Of course, the way I am, I'm thinking thoughts like I'm going to wake up in the middle of the night, in horrible pain, with a blood clot back there.

OK, after all this, does anyone here have anything at all like this? I would really really really like to know!

thanks girls!

Hi Mydarling,

I get weird-looking things on my legs, that my doc, like yours, says are "nothing!" So far, I haven't died of them... happy.gif

A few years ago, my right calf suddenly swelled up, and got sorer and sorer within the course of a couple hours. No marks anywhere. I went to the doc, who sent me IMMEDIATLY to the ER. It was a scary thing, because the technicians looking for a blood clot had worried faces while they went over the area again and again with probes - they scared the bejingles out of me! What we DON'T want to see is worry on the faces of people treating us!

Anyway, everything was fine. If your doc thought there was ANY CHANCE of a blood clot or phebitis, you'd have been sent to the hospital right away.

I suspect what you have is something like broken capillaries, which I get, and which are - well, just ugly!

Hope all is well - if you remain nervous, go have it checked again. Better not to upset ourselves about these things.

Hi JJ,

oh thank you, I'm glad to hear that someone has SOMETHING similar! yeah, I noticed today, that it was getting much lighter, and nearly gone, so it must have been "something", but who knows what..lol...oh man, you know what it is, is that, EVERYDAY THERE'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND SCAREY! THIS IS REALLY TENSE! Now, tomorrow I get my results from the blood test I did on Monday, UGH! It's crazy I knw I work myself up, and I try not to, it's just that I think the way this all hit me so hard and so fast, it scared the, as you say, "bejingles" out of me..lol .. but it has. I'm just sort of NOW learning to say "ok, I'm still alive, I'm not dead yhet, so this can't be something bad", like a lot of you ladies have learned to say, but come on, that 's hard to do in the face of certain symptoms, especially in the beginning. But, I'm getting there! ..lol..with the help of this site, and smart, funny, EXPERIENCED women here who know "the ropes"...THANK GOD!

Yeah, I think my biggest stressor RIGHT NOW (but who knows what it'll be tomorrow:) is that constant PRESSURE BEHIND MY LEFT KNEE, it's weird, it's only really been like that today. Actually, it's on and off. It's all part of my LEG ACHES AND PAINS that I seem to have acquired since January. EVERYTHING CAME ON ME IN JANUARY, out of nowhere. So, naturally, you think you must be dying of some disease..lol....oh boy, I thank God for my husband, who has been strong through all of this, who keeps telling me "it's nothing, it's nothing!!!" .. lol ....I do hope he's right....

Thanks JJ............mydarling

I too get these weird marks on my leg. They are about the size of a penney and I first got them about three years ago. They came up right before my period and they were somewhat tender to the touch. Then they would go away after my period and come back the next month. They don't ever really "go away" there is a faint dark spot where each of them were and I guess that will probably never go away. I have tried vitamin e oil, aloe gel and a host of other things but they just kind of are there. Not sure what they were from but I haven't died from them yet so I pretty much ignore them. Didn't have any new ones for over a year and then two months ago when my periods got really wacked out, I got another one. I have to believe they are hormone driven. I also notice a lot more little broken capillaries here and there. I'm really fair skinned so each little mark shows up as if someone has shined a spotlight on it. I think I use more coverup makeup on my legs than I do on my face (LOL).

After three years of this I pretty much take most of this stuff in stride...or at least try to. Right now my hormones are a basket case...up and down and all over the place in the course of a single day. I'm 51 and hoping that this is winding down for me now.

Have you tried heat on that thing behind your knee?

Broken capillaries (telangiectasias is the proper term for them) do not change in appearance from day to day. They can get worse over time though, I think usually getting larger and more purple I am well aware of these things because I have rosacea, and I have them on my face (chin and nose).

I would have them properly diagnosed by a physician. If that's indeed what they are, if their appearance bugs you and you want to get rid of them, there are treatments. The treatment probably won't be covered by insurance because it will be considered cosmetic.
