My doctor took me off hormones because over the long haul they cause problems. I don't remember what she said they were. I remember thinking it was really a bad thing. I had ovarian cancer about 20 years ago. They took out all the plumbing, appendix too. I am completely off the hormones and ready to commit sucide. Just kidding. Sweat pours all the time. I am wet from sun up till.........I was going to say sun down but it doesn't stop then just keeps on going.
I had not heard about cold flashes before reading this forum. The backs of my arms get cold. Putting on something warm doesn't help. I just stay cold until my body decides to warm up or start steaming again. I printed off some of your info. I am going to the health food store and taking it with me. I am going to lose about 50 lbs. and start a mild exercise program and see if any thing improves. I hope I can find some relief from all this heat. Thanks for listening, just wanted to let off a little steam.

Hi Puff
I get that all day, all night hot fushing. The onlu things that seem to help, over and beyond hormones, is showering... you'll find the right temperature. Sometimes that buys me 8 hours relief, sometimes it only last til my hair's dry. The other thing is Anti Depressants. I'm not depressed per say, but I soon will be if this doesn't get better. PS I'm on bupropion (wellbutrin/zybanSR) but there are a whack of other choices, if you're interested.
oooh Arthur Brown is on...is this to be my theme song? I Am The God of Hell Fire....

I have got to learn to proof read this stuff.
That should be "hot flushing', and 'per se'...
at least I can blame it on peri

LMBO, Duch! I just thought it was yet ANOTHER symtom added to the nasty list of meno woes!

Thanks. Yesterday was a pooh day, and today will be. Ever have days when you (repeatedly) ask yourself, "Why did I come in here? And how long have I been stood here?" Man, talk about flighty thinking....

Puffy I too had the cold flashes, and aren't they the strangest sensation? I felt like someone had submerged me in a vat of freezing water! Anyway, the only thing I found to help was a hot bath. Sort of the defrost from the inside out theory). It does pass Puffy, as does the hot flashes, night sweats etc. But, these things do have a habit of re-appearing too. That's the thing about peri, you have something for a while, it disappears, you think you'll never have it again, then presto...it flares back up. The good news tho, over time, we do find we can deal with them better...
Another thing that might help is a heating pad. If the cold sensation is just in one area, maybe some localized 'warming' would help...

The cold flashes happen mostly at night. I lay on one side until it gets warm and then I turn over and warm the other side. Next thing I know I am having a hot flash. Today I have mostly just been normal. Why some days I sweat all day and then another day I seem normal. Doesn't make sense. I'm wondering????? I had surgery and took meds for almost 20 yrs. If I wait will my body adjust it's self? If I do mild exercise, drink plenty of water, have a regular time to go to bed and get up, eat senseably will they go away?

Puffy, there's nothing wrong with maintaining a healthy body, so the exercise, the lots of water etc. will help you alot...but while the work-outs and such help decrease the feeling of anxiety etc., the truth is, fluxing hormones have a life of its own, and they take us on a merry ride. (NOT!) So, chances are, a lot of the things you're going to feel are just going to happen no matter what you do. I wish I could tell you there's a 'cure-all', but there isn't. Some using progesterone cream, some use vitamins and minerals, to help ease some of the signs, but the truth is....for most of us, it's a waiting game. We just deal with whatever comes our way that day, and know it will pass...eventually. I know it must be really rough having gone through everything you've faced, and the last thing you need is something new thrown at you. We are here for you tho, Puffy, and know we'll help anyway we can. Even if it's just to talk it out, or relieve a new fear... ok??

Hey all. I haven't posted in awhile. I think the hardest thing is the sleep loss that accompanies the sweats. I mean they wake me up out of a deep sleep, usually with a nightmare thrown in! And I mean they are doozys of a nightmare. Then of course, it's off to the bathroom. I think the progesterone cream has helped somewhat. It helps knowing there are so many others willing to share our misery even though there are no "magic wands" out there to help.
