Full Version: hormone levels?

Hi...I searched around alittle and was wondering if there is an area where hormone levels are posted?

Like, when we have our tests done...is there a place where we can check out the results to see if they indicate peri or menopause?

I've noticed members mentioning their levels and I'd like to have a basic idea of what the ranges are.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks...Marie

Hi Marie,
I'd like to know more about what the FSH levels mean, too. Mine was 74 last summer, but the only signs I had were irregular periods and sometimes night sweats. Now I've run into the anxiety and hot flashes (had the first ones this week). I wonder if this means I'm really getting further along with this whole mess. The hot flash I had was when I was just sitting on the couch watching TV. My face was very red and felt like sunburn. I drank a glass of cold water and splashed water on my face. It helped. But it felt very dry so I put on more moisturizer.

I don't know how my mom did through all this, but my sisters took HRT and had some of the symptoms. I'm 54 - 1/2, and would love to be done with periods.

Hi WriterMom...
I'm looking at my test results right now and from what I've gathered, the day in your cycle is important in reading your results right. I had my blood drawn on the 8th day of my cycle and my FSH was 4.2....according to the range on this paper I was in the follicular stage and the range is 2.5-10.2. The bottom value states postmenopausal as a range from 23.0-116.3. When my results came back, the nurse told me I was postmenopausal...huh? Then when I went for my annual pap/mammo my gyn said I wasn't near menopause. My estradiol was 242 on that same test...and the range was 11-212. So I'm reading that as not menopausal either. It's confusing...my gyno said that the nurse who told me I was post was very wrong. I did not have my progesterone checked and based on alot of what I have read...my guess is that it is low as it seems my estradiol is up there. I'm confused and would like another range chart to see...I don't know if they vary. I also want to do saliva tests on all the hormones..so I can get more results and a better view of all.

I don't believe I've had any hot flashes yet..although about 4 days before the start of my period, I'll wake up usually two nights in a row, drenched in sweat. So I don't know if that is a hot flash or just excess fluid from water retention. I think I feel wobblier and more absent minded right before my period now.Like today, I'm talking to my husband and in the middle of talking, I couldn't come up with the words I wanted to say..like my train derailed.Yeesh. My period is due on Friday...I've never missed and it's normal...so I'm wondering if I am peri? I suspect low progesterone.
Maybe someone will come up with a range chart...I'll keep searching and post one if I find it.

Add me to the mix. I am 46, one ovary. Didn't have a period for 3 months, then took natural progresterone and had one period. Now none again.

Levels taken (granted I have no clue as to the day of the cycle since I wasn't having a cycle when these values were taken)

FSH 23.20
TSH 1.570
estridol 229.00

So, Dr said I will probably expect more periods and will "jump start" me again in March if I don't.

Can't I just let it go??? Dr mentioned that with my test results showing I am not in menopause that the lining will still build up and could create severe bleeding. I had a very light period when I took the progesterone last time.

I get more symptoms on progesterone, hate it.

Any input? thanks!

Hi LawyerMom...
I'm not sure how you would read your levels since you're cycle isn't regular. The range chart on my test results shows that an FSH of 23.0-116.3 to be postmenopausal. I'm confused about it all and your doc says you aren't in meno...I guess he's looking at your estradiol...according to the range on my paper, postmeno would be 27 or below on the estradiol. Your estradiol is 229. Is there an actual accurate value I wonder. I know our hormones fluctuate all the time...some say that the tests are useless because of this.I'm still confused and wondering.Marie

Hi I think I'll jump in here...I have an FSh of 17.5, progesterone was 1.34, estridiol was 32 taken on day 3 of my cycle. I went in because i was having hot flashes and more hotflashes and just generally feeling awful. He said they generally look at FSH 1st seeing how the others can fluctuate so much. FSh he said above 10 was inicative of ovaries failing to ovulate, above 23 falls into post. he said my estridiol was on the low end of normal. He said they don't consider anyone menapausal until they haven't had a period for a yr. See I would thing that would be post...it is all confusing. HUGS MIKKI
