Hi ladies,
you know, I was just sitting here reading all these posts, my gosh, I've got them all! My very worst symptom, is the thigh aching! I've actually had that for about 5 yrs. now (I'm 48yrs. olld) but in the last couple of those years...OUCH! This ache goes on and on! Some days its better, some days it's worse. It used to just be on and off, now it's almost all the time! Is that normal?
I keep thinking, if it's like this NOW, how much worse will it get!?

HI, I don't think this will help you much maybe offer a bit of commfort but t (bear with me a bit), but about two weeks ago I started a BCP with estrogen and progestereon called Marvelon....after about 10 days I started getting this ache in my thighs and then in my calfs and now it has mostly gone away...all I can say is it must have been the hormonal adjustment to the BCP....I also used to get this really terrible ache in the thighs around when I was having my period....can't offer any solutions beyond warms baths.....hormones Yeesh!

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, thought I'd reply to your post.
I don't know if this has anything to do what your particular issue, but over the past few years, I've had an increase in hip and leg pain. Found out I have minor arthritis in hip and lower back, but I believe the primary issue is sciatica. My husband has had sciatic pain for a long time, and could really be uncomfortable from it. When mine flares, my right hip aches and my leg hurts all the way down, but the thigh is especially achy, tender, etc. Press firmly along the side of your thigh and see if that muscle, the IT band I think it's called, (can also cause knee pain), which runs on the outside of the thigh from the very top to the knee is extremely tender and inflamed feeling. If so, massage that band with as much pressure as you can take, or perhaps your husband can do this. Awhile back, my husband massaged it with a very strong pressure and the next day, my hip and leg pain was greatly alleviated. It flares from time to time and this deep massage seems to help. Might have nothing to do with what you're experiencing, but just a suggestion.

I am so relieved that someone else is experiencing this thigh pain. (With my anxiety I of course was thinking the worst) I would describe mine not so much as pain, but as an uncomfortable weird, heavy feeling with a hot/cold sensation running thru it. I feel it in both thighs dead center between knee and hip. I've been trying to remember to stretch my quads during the day as this seems to help a bit. Some days it's all day long, other days I don't have it at all. Guess it's one more thing to chalk up to hormones.

Gee, ever since I was 12 years old, I had thigh aches when I was getting my period. I'd feel the ache and the period would be there within minutes.
Never had a cramp, just achey thighs.
I would never have thought that was a new symptom going along with peri since it's been my only monthly indication a period was imminent all my life.
So what hormone causes achey thighs?
I always thought it was just caused by the cervix opening, since I also felt achey thighs while in labor.

This is me right now. And it's a new one for me, I am on day two of my period and it came on the day before. I actually ache on and off and even imagine I am having a job walking! I'm not. Having a right bad time of it too this period, my anxiety which had been dormant for a few months is back with avengence and this ache is just adding to it, obviously I cannot beleive it is just a hormonal induced ache, it is much more sinister, when the anxiety is low I can just go with the flow.
What a great time of life this is.

Know how you all feel! Lately, I've had the pains in legs, thighs, hips! Not sure what to do if anything! I think all of these various symptoms are what brings on the panic and anxiety too. I've been going great guns since my hyster back in April, but lately I thank God that I know Power Surge sisters are here to help me keep my head together. God Bless you all.

I too have been suffering from achy, heavy thighs for months now. After months of hormonal hell, just started on HRT a month ago and it is helping with other things but not everything.
Wondering if anyone else gets joint pain in their jaw? Today, my legs and hips were really bothering me and so was my jaw.
Just wondering . . . . as I continue to tell myself I am not crazy.

I feel dreadful admitting this, but it is wonderful to hear that someone else has the same troubles. I thought I was in solitary anxiety/madness mode. I am nearly 46 and I guess this is only the beginning.

Girls,
Add me to the list of women with achy thighs. I feel it mostly in my left thigh (my left side seems to be the most symptomatic side) and also at times in my hip. This is all so bizarre. I notice it most when I'm going up or down the stairs I feel as if I've pulled the muscle in my thigh or something and mine is dead center between the knee and hip also. It's just one thing after another. I just keep praying and hoping this ride will be over soon! God bless,

To Micho ... don't feel bad at being relieved that others share your symptoms. That is one of the most reassuring things about this site. I've lost count of the times I've had some weird and wonderful symptom I never had before and that I'm convinced is some dreaded disease, then come on here and found others have experienced the exact same thing. It is such a relief to find out we're not alone and definitely helps put the mind at rest.
As for the aching thighs. I always got that just before and on the first couple of days of my period, then it would go, until the next month so it's definitely hormonal. Since I started peri I went through a phase of the heavy achey legs, thighs and calfs. Walking up stairs was worst - I felt like an old lady .. but eventually that passed. Since last August I have had a sore right hip. It comes and goes, some days it's really bad, other days I hardly notice it - when I posted about it here I got loads of replies from ladies going through the same thing. Pleased to say for the past 3-4 weeks I haven't noticed it at all. I'm scared to say it's gone for good. Too often I've done that with a symptom and back it comes again, but it's looking good hip wise at the minute.
It's all part of the wonderful experience we know and love (not!) - peri flaming menopause!

I'm new at this, first time today so please bear with me while I figure out what I'm doing!
A friend recommended this site to me as she found info on heavy, aching thighs for me. This is a new symptom for me, just the past few weeks and it was such a relief to read some of these comments, even though I could only find older ones.
I'm mid-50s and have been going through this without HRT (history of brease cancer in family) for about 6 years now and have been without a Dr. for over a year. My new Dr. of 1 month said I should be tested for muscle disease so, of course, I'm thinking MS, ALS etc. and have been scared silly until I get results but now I feel better about it.
Has anyone found anything, other than HRT, that will give relief for this?
Thank you!!

I just joined this site for the same reason. I too have been experiencing thigh achiness but only in one thigh so it was a little spooky. After reading comments from this site recently I've begun associating my achiness with ovulation where as others link their symptoms to their period. One way or the other it feels hormonal as the pain comes and goes with my cycle. I plan to ask my doctor about it during my next check up in February. I'll let you know what I learn and what my doctor recommends. I'm 48 years old and it seems logical that these new symptoms could be peri. Though my periods continue to be regular, another symptom I've noticed over the past 6 months is a dull pain in each alternating ovary each month. I never noticed it before. I was wondering if that is another symptom of impending menopause.

I too get the achy thighs, hips, calves and jaw/face pain. I am also on HRT and still have things that come and go. Like for the past 3 days now I have been spotting with brownish stuff and feel achy, tired w/face pain and neck pain. The weather here in Florida doesn't help either. It is rainy and humid. The thigh ache reminds of when I was younger and was told it was growing pains. I thinks it was really hormone pains all along.

Hi..Im 47 and I have achey, heavy thighs also...Sometimes I have the same feelings in my arms also. I also get the buzzing, purring feelings in my arms, mostly at night...I also get twitches all over my body...This has been going on and off for me for about 3.5 months....Just when I think its gone, it seems to reappear!...My joints in my knees also ache, and I feel so stiff in the mornings. I was tested for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus...both negative. My thyroid is on the high/normal range..so could possibly be attributed to that also.
Sometimes I think Im going crazy and no one believes me!!....All the drs do is want to drug me up!...They dont know what is wrong with me, and cant make the symptoms go away, but they think if they give me enough antianxiety medicine, maybe I wont care anymore!!..lol

I used to get achy thighs during my periods now and then, but not every month. I had lazer treatment on my cervix because some abnormal cells would found during a pap, and for 6 months afterwards I had the worst aching thighs during my periods imaginable! I am not sure what the connection was, but there definitely was one!
Now for another question! Does anyone have still sore ankles? I really feel it going down stairs. Going up doesn't bother me, but going down...ouch!

Hi,
I used to get awful aches in my thighs too and it was usually before I'd shed. Now my cycle is so erratic that I haven't had the achey thighs lately, but I'm always focused on the upper back, lower back, hip, buttock pain I have all the time, but not the pains in the thighs I got when I was more regular.

Yes, Floats, I have sore ankles.
Sometimes I think my feet might break apart from the rest of me.

[I am replying to myself a little over a year later. My symptons of Jan'08 are an interesting point of reference as I still have achiness in one thigh. In addition I have a problem with jaw and lower neck between my shoulder blades. These symptons are why I returned to the site. I've noticed other women share the same combination of symtoms.]

I'm having these unbearable thigh aches today. They have been going on for several days now. The ache that a good stretch makes them feel better for the moment but then doesn't take.
Has anyone figured out which hormone causes this? Is it too much estrogen or too much progesterone? Knowing this would really help me as I get this about once every 3 months. Since I'm post, I can't relate them to any part of my cycle.

I too have recently, the last 3 days been experiencing aching in the back of my thighs, in my calfs and in my biceps. Not extremely painful, but irritating. It's freaking me out. I have had the arm thing before and it went away. I attributed it to anxiety. I'm close to period time, yes I am still getting them irratically. I have not been sleeping well this week. Keep waking up every couple of hours. I feel scared. Is this just another random peri symptom. Of course I think i'm going to die or something. But jeez enough already. My thighs almost feel like my skin is too tight or they are swollen, but they are not. Tingly too. It's just in the backs of both of them. Any one else have these ever?

Yes, I've had this and still do get it. I am convinced it's hormonal. Which hormone? No clue. The first time it happened, I was so scared. My legs felt like I had run a marathon - and that was hardly the case! It eventually left and has come back again and again from time to time. hang in there, Kathleent

What about Charley Horses?

Is anyone else getting those? Before menopause I would rarely get them. Now I am getting them all the time and my legs are constantly aching. I am 2 years into menopause and am wondering if this is normal. I eat bananas for the potassium every morning and take my calcium tablets every day. I just started drinking Gatorade for the electrolytes because I read that the cramps are caused from dehydration. It seems to help, but it has not stopped the cramps or the pain altogether. Does anyone else suffer from these?

I have getting the aching thighs for quite a while now. Sometimes it is just one leg, sometimes both. And it is not always aching - sometimes it is a tingling, sometimes my thighs are really cold but there is something going on nearly all the time. I think the worst part is that you just never know what will hit you next. And it really is like someone has taken over your body. I have found that brisk walking, taking longer strides than usual helps my legs. And the exercise can't be bad either. I have become very lazy about it and I am sure that doesn't help. Keep on keeping on, everyone.

I have had this same problem for a few weeks now. I used to get achey thighs before my period and now it seems to never go away. Some days are better then others. I had an intrauterine ablation done in December and since that time it seems that I am getting very symptomatic. Lots of aches/pains/brain fog and now this nightmare. Today I started getting muscle spasms in my right calf as well (which ofcourse immediately sends me into brain tumor mode....yes worse case scenario is my middle name). So I was happy to hear that others are having similar problems.
I wish it would all go away.
