I'm looking for reliable information on the connection (or lack of connection) between the anti-depressants in the SSRI class (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, others?) and weight gain.  The drug companies barely address this as a side effect, yet it seems like there's a lot of people that believe the SSRIs can lead to weight gain (not just b/c you are less depressed and therefore eat, I mean).  I notice a correlation between my starting Paxil and unprecedented weight gain, but it's hard to know what's what since there are a bunch of changes afoot.  My doctor is fairly equivocal and therefore useless re this topic saying only "it  [weight gain] is normal.' I cannot exercise more.  I will not eat less.

I was on Paxil for three years and gained almost 30 lbs in spite of daily exercise and maintaining a healthy diet.  I switched to Celexa almost a year ago and the weight gain has stopped.  However, I'm still trying to lose the paxil fat.

Paxil is the worst weight gain offender in the SSRI group.  I don't care what the doctors say.
