I heard recently that drinking green tea helps boost metabolism. Is there any truth to this? And how much would you need to drink to benefit from it?

According to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D. of thepopular book -The Perricone Prescription, oneshould substitute green tea in the place of coffee.Green tea contains catechin polyphenols, anti-oxidants that boost metabolism and slow aging.Green tea can also block the absorption of badfats by 30 %,while the amino acid theonine pro-motes a sence of calm.  Unlike coffee, that raisescortisol and insulin  -hormones that accelerate aging and store body fat..  Just by substituting greentea instead of coffee, Dr. Perricone claims hispatients lose 6 to 8 pounds in 6-8 weeks replacing the coffee with green tea.    Dr. Perricone is a world -renowned researcher, scientist, and board certified American Board Dermatologist.

I wonder how much of it you have to drink. I am always concerned about the caffeine in it. That alone can help you lose by speeding up the metabolism some for those of us who are caffeine free. Now I am curious to read more about it.

dreamharp---how much is enough to get the effects???   I was at a seminar (for nursing) and they said 3-4 cups/day.  I would be interested to know the amt you've read.

Also, the woman who spoke at the seminar (with a doctorate in nutritional science) siad that it is also balck teas and (they think) possibly ALL teas, but the green tea was tested first, hence got out to the media first that it was the 'one' to be best antioxidant, etc.  She said all teas were equal in this capacity, but you had to drink the regular, not decaf,........and no milk in it.  For some reason the effects were altered by the decaf. process and/or the addition of milk.
