Full Version: Perimenopause......I'm So Upset
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?

Thank god I have found this board. It has been so reassuring and helpful, thus far.

I will be 40 in April and seem to be experiencing bizzare symptoms which I have never had in my life.

I little background......I do suffer from migrains and take 20 mg of Paxil / day. I also use ativan, as needed. As far as diagnostic tests, I did have an MRI and brain stem test at age 23 for fluctuating hearing loss in one ear, which thankfully were normal. Other than anxiety, I really have no real issues.

For about one year, my periods have been getting consistently shorter and lighter. I seem to bleed heavily initially, and in two to three days, it ends. Also they seem to get 5 days earlier each time.

Aside from these subtle changes, my troubleseome recent (2 months) symptom is the "skin crawling", which seems to have subsided with my magnesium supplement.

I have started intermittant twitching....especially at night, but recently during the day. I feel like I am going to jump out of my skin, at times. Today (and this is a first), my upper arm is twitching....I can see it under my turtleneck.

I am so frightened and upset. I always think the worse...Parkinsons, MS, Brain Tumor, etc. I finally got up the nerve to make an appointment with the neurologist for tomorrow at nine. My mum is going with me.......I am petrified. I know they will repeat an MRI, etc.

I hope and pray it is this god awful "pre" change of life. Please give me some input

Jessebelle,
I am glad you found us. As you will find out soon, power surge is a God send. I just turned 40 a couple of days ago. I have been having symptoms for about a year (or more) As I read I have found all of your symptoms are being experienced by the girls here. Keep on reading and you will find out that you are NOT alone with all these things you are experiencing. My periods have also changed like yours, much, much lighter and closer together. If you put all the dots together you will for sure find out it is all peri related. I hope this puts your mind a little at ease. Hang in there and keep reading.

Jesse: Welcome! You are just about the age where I started having symptoms. But of course, I thought it was some horrible disease so I went trotting off to the doctor and had the tests done. And I still do. You're doing the right thing...it's wise to check everything out---the peace of mind is soooo worth it. But then you'll still be left with the symptoms, which is what we are here for. Post often!

Hey girls.......just returned from the neurologist. I went through everything with him and he said that twitchiness is nothing to be alarmed about (even during the day).

He did some interesting balancing tests and reflexive tests in the office. The result....my brain is functioning okay. Apparently I would not be able to complete the tasks and be so coherent if something were awry.

I mentioned perimenopause......he suggested that I go to my gyno if I want my hormonal levels to be tested. However, after reading many posts, these tests are often rubbish!!

So relieved that nothing major suspected and that expensive tests are not necessary.

But....as you mentioned, here we are left with the wierd symtoms. I am currently at work typing in the midst of my twitches.

This site is a god send. It is such a relief not be alone. Thank you everybody for the reassuring posts.

I too was having twitches and yet when I stopped taking over the counter cold remedies, they seemed to have stopped. Not that the other crazy symptoms have, but just thought I would mention this.
